Lo-fi
« on: 08 Dec 2007, 09:41 »

Okay people, lately I've been flooding myself with a bunch of indie rock to sort of "catch up" to everyone else because I literally had like two albums. I've listened to a big variety of bands and I have to say that I really don't like much of any lo-fi bands.  I mean, there are a few bands that I like (Animal Collective, Iron & Wine, Okkervil River), but most other ones I've heard really don't appeal to me.  I mean,  some of those bands just sound really sloppy and out of tune and just sorta put together badly.  Some of them are trying to do so and I realize that it's to gain that sort of "authenticity", but to me it just sounds really terrible. Does anyone else feel this way?  It just seems like everyone else on this forum likes all of these lo-fi bands and I just can't get into them.

Also, if someone had any other lo-fi bands that you think I might be okay with, I would be open to try ones I haven't heard before.

This term confuses me greatly. Could you possibly provide some examples of bands you didn't like too?

If by lo-fi you mean bedroom recordings and the like, well there's fucking millions of projects like that out there. I'm not sure if it's a genre of something even worth exploring in terms of finding bands you'll like since a metal band can be lo-fi but so can a folk band if you're using what I always thought of as the actual definition. Why don't you look at some of the recommendation threads around here (there's at least a couple on the first page alone). If nothing catches your eye, tell us some bands you particularly like and maybe we can help you out. Please search around first though. There should already be plenty here (and the sendspace thread would be a good place to look for the albums themselves once you've found something).

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Ulver's Nattens Madrical is about as lo-fi as it gets. You should check it out as well, it's an amazing piece of music.
