How can you not "get" reggae?  What's to get?  It is the summeriest of summery music.

WTF Bob Marely? I just don't get reggae.

I do not think this thread ever really had a topic anyway.

How's about we try to list some definitions for this new "Coldplay" genre? Like, how it's listened to mostly by middle-aged women...or something.
I'm sure we could think of other bands that would fit into this genre. I nominate Youth Group to start things off.

I wouldn't group Coldplay and Youth Group together, but I guess they are similar in sound. A little tiny bit?

Maybe the Coldplay genre could be more defined by the low quality of music, but high number of unironic listeners who seem to have been brainwashed into thinking the band is good.
*resists naming most classic rock bands*

1 Sublime
2 U2
3 Coldplay
4 Rap
5 Jack Johnson
6 Pink Floyd
7 R&b
8 Rock
9 The Killers
10 The Beatles

Shame on you, Boston.  I thought you had better taste in music than this.

Coldplay is kinda becoming a genre.  Silverchair's new song is terrible (not that Silverchair really did anything good) and it sounds like Coldplay-lite.  And Coldplay is already Radiohead-lite.

I also like to think of it as the "Commercial Genre" - because it sounds like music that should be playing in the background of commercials. And kinda because they sold out. I dunno.

Edit: Happy birthday, Casey!

3. Garden State
4. Pulp Fiction
5. Amelie
6. Love Actually

8. Anchorman
9. Crash
10.V For Vendetta

Pretty bad.

3. Radiohead
4. Coldplay
5. Bob Dylan
6. Ben Folds
7. Queen
8. Death Cab For Cutie
9. The Fray
10.Pink Floyd

At least Radiohead and Bob Dylan are on there.

Top Books

1. Harry Potter
2. 1984
3. Catcher In The Rye
4. Pride And Prejudice
5. The Great Gatsby
6. Lord Of The Rings
7. Catch-22
8. Brave New World

North Toronto Collegiate Institute, I choose you!

Top Music

1 The Beatles
2 The Who
3  Rap
4 Pink Floyd
5 Red Hot Chili Peppers
6 Queen
7 Led Zeppelin
8 Jack Johnson
9 Eminem
10 Radiohead

I don't actually know anyone who likes Jack Johnson or Eminem....outside of that my school seems very classic rock oriented. I think the main reason why people write "rap" in the music category is because there are so many forgettable artists in this genre.

Top Movies

1 Borat
2 Wedding Crashers
3 Scarface
4 Fight Club
5 Casino Royale
6 Moulin Rouge
7  Godfather
8 Friday Night Lights
9 Dodgeball
10 Crash

I've only seen three of those movies.

Top Books

1To Kill A Mockingbird
2 Harry Potter
3 Animal Farm
4 Pride And Prejudice
5 Lord Of The Rings
6 Jurassic Park - There's a book?
7 Eragon
8 Eldest
9 Death Note - Not technically a book
10 1984

at least His Harriness isn't at the top. The rest of it is just vanilla.

I don't know how things are in New York but here there aren't a lot of people who've heard of Kerouack, and those that would don't really have the patience to bullshit an author they haven't read.

Man, i don't even go to school and I know how to spell Kerouac.

That is indeed a ridiculous statement.

In terms of number of albums released, progression of stylistic changes and overall influence, there can't really be a Beatles of our generation. You could probably make a better argument for bands like REM, Fugazi or Sloan but even those would be pretty far-fetched notions.

Don't be silly Tommy. It is common knowledge that KoRn is this generations Beatles.

Limp Bizkit are the Rolling Stones.

My high school's top movies:

1 Wedding Crashers
2 The Notebook
3 Mean Girls
4 Titanic
5 Scarface
6 Eurotrip
7 Dodgeball
8 2
9 Finding Nemo
10 Borat

Most of these sucked.  I'd really like to see the movie "2" though.  Hopefully it's as good as "1".

My school's top movies

Top Movies
1The Princess Bride
2The Notebook
3Pirates Of The Caribbean
4V For Vendetta
5Pride And Prejudice
6Lord Of The Rings
7Garden State
8Fight Club
9Beauty And The Beast
10Anchorman

I, for one, am pleasantly surprised. Basically, because The Princess Bride is indeed the best movie ever. We did get something right. The rest weren't half bad, with the exception of Anchorman.

This list, however, is very disheartening:

Top Music
1U2
2Coldplay
3Jack Johnson
4The Fray
5Radiohead
6The Killers
7Red Hot Chili Peppers
8Rascal Flatts
9Goo Goo Dolls
10Fall Out Boy

I'm not sure what to say about this next list:

Top Books
1The Bible
2Harry Potter
3Lord Of The Rings
4Blue Like Jazz
5Mere Christianity
6To Kill A Mockingbird
7The Brothers K
8Pride And Prejudice
9The Atonement Child
10Chronicles Of Narnia

We are a Christian school, I guess. I think To Kill A Mockingbird was the book everyone read in high school (ie the last book most people at my college read).

List threads==not fun at all.

Let's discuss this. According to the IndieTits archive, Jeph talked Coldplay back in april of '05.
IS HE NOT THE MASTER OF FORESHADOWING? HE EVEN PREDICTED THIS THREAD!

...It wasn't supposed to be a list thread. Let's just talk about how much Coldplay sucks?

Jack Johnson is like Dave Matthews for kids who are too uptight to smoke pot.

In a Venn diagram of the these two groups, the intersection lies at "guys who engage in date rape."

Facebook's matching system is wierd, so it's probably that a bunch of people had "I <3..." something and they just decided to show that one, and then the same for "And um...".

No one has any right to complain anymore.  My college officially has the worst list I've seen on here.  Jack Johnson, Wedding Crashers, and Grey's Anatomy are apparently the most popular things at my college.  Why did I go to a state school?

Oh yeah.  So I can look down on everyone around me like a proper hipster.

I threw the interests in there for fun.  Mostly because if anyone here was actually interested in music, reading, or movies, this list would be drastically different.  And because that many people legitimately think that "partying" qualifies as an interest.
