I think that's already the name of an Anne McCaffrey book. I am definitely happy to have a band that is named after a badass motherfuckin' airplane though, whatever the case.

I significantly doubt there is a coypright law saying you can't have a book and a band sharing names.

@celticgeek: I have that movie and I can honestly say it is one of the most disappointing films ever. Great concept, but srsly, the movie was like 10 years newer than the original Star Wars and the special effects were that bad?

@Johnny: It's not so much a copyright law I'm worried about. I'm worried people will think I read Anne McCaffrey. Nothing against those who do, but fantasy stuff just weirds me out.

I think only Anne McCaffrey fans would notice, and they wouldn't think less of you for it. Just put lots of sweet airplanes on album covers and you're set. STARFIGHTER does sound way cooler by itself.

My band, Ergo B Bag is playing at the Annandale Hotel on Parramatta Road this friday night for those in Sydney, we are headlining a bill with Crooked Fiddle Band and Richard In Your Mind. Its gonna be a whole lot of party, and will no doubt be alot better than the Big Day Out gig during which it started raining and my keyboard was consequently drenched. Electricity and water, always a winning combination.

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=74536754&albumID=287123&imageID=19948385

You're playing with two of my favourite Sydney bands!

Unfortunately, I have birthday dubstep to go to, otherwise I'd be all over that gig like hippies on a steaming mound of tofu.

Also, that myspace link is dodgy. It wants me to sign in.

bells, I would come see you but I have another concert to go to that night. Play gigs that are not on that day and maybe I will come. I might even be able to drag other Sydney Forumites to be there.

I want to start a noise/math/post rock band, but I don't know any bassists or drummers in the area that would want to play anything like that.  :[

My band, Tinselfish.

We used to have me on drums and vocals, but I've decided to move to guitar and vocals as the music gets more experimental and freaky and such - we've had such a bad time finding a drummer, especially one with our tastes.

Actually, the scene here is pretty good.  But, you don't really want to come to Vermont for much else than the scenery, and country bar bands.

Well, actually if you want "indie" stuff, there are some really great venues here.  A cafe in the capital that frequently hosts local flavours as well as out of state bands that are mostly underground, but there haven't been any notable musicians to come out of the ol' Green Mountain State since Phish.  Although, I would keep an eye on The Year's Best.  They are pretty damn good.

There's this other band from here getting some notoriety called Waiting for a Miracle, but they're one of those new "emocore" bands or whatever.

I'm checking out their myspace. They seem to be extra-awful, as opposed to normal awful. You have my condolences.
Also I would like to point out that this band's vocalist is named Zak Ballad. Priceless.

He is a pretty shitty vocalist.

I just found out that The Year's Best have put up their new EP for download.  It's pretty good stuff.  Acoustic-centric indie folk/pop.

Don't even get me started on how shitty the scene is here. You have a choice between Balkan pop (fucking shoot me now), all the Metallica that I've ever hated, or shitty top-40.

Back home in my hometown in the Bay Area it's all adolescent boys crying over losing the girlfriend whose name they can't even remember because they've had so many since. Either that or you've got a choice of metalcore or screamo.

There's a lot of variety here.  There's everything from electro bands to world music.  Not all of it's good, mind you, but there are a few handfuls of gems in a pretty vast pile of shit.

Attention anyone going to Tronnocon:

Bring an instrument if at all possible. The very first Valley Parade show will take place in my hostel room at some point during the weekend, and YOU can join in the noise! So far, I know Edith, Yelley, and possibly Johnny C are on board. I'm going to try and record the show as well, maybe release a live EP or something to that extent.

So, I recorded some songs on this little mp3 player thing, and uploaded them with the help of Audacity.  For anyone interested, you can check them out here.

I'll re-record them with better vocals (hopefully) when I get my guitar and capo back.

I would be interested to see what would happen if we unleashed you upon the world with a Fostex MR-8 and a Telecaster.

That said, I want one of them Fostex dealios for myself. Give me the one with a 40GB hard drive and a CD burner and I will play around like nothing else.

this is good stuff; kozelek-ish.  very red house painters.  A Song Of My Own is the Knockin' On Heaven's Door/Here Comes A Regular progression.  nice.

the vocals on ASOMO are cool, i don't like the moving to the city ones so much.

Hey, thanks.  I don't really like the vocals on that song, either.  I really wanted to try playing it with a capo, so it's higher, but my capo is in my gig bag.  Which is at Vermont Music Repair.

I would be interested to see what would happen if we unleashed you upon the world with a Fostex MR-8 and a Telecaster.

That's really similar to what Mike and I use when recording stuff for Fetcher, that other music project I linked up a couple of times already.  Except the one we use is a Boss-1200 CD or something very similar.

Also, PECOAE, your stuff is rad.  Your voice reminds me of Dan Bejar.  Especially on "Summer Hammock Morning."

Ignore what the name and profile say, I'm currently in a marathon trolling session of some neo-nazi black metal kids and in order to join their group I needed to change my profile around. I'm not really racist or homophobic, my grandpa was half native american and my bst friend from high school is a lesbian. It's translectronoisepop but I call it Jackson Pollack music. I'm waiting to hear back from ATR about signing on.

And no, we don't take ourselves seriously, whatsoever.

I got a little drunk one night and downloaded Ableton Live, decided I was a musician, and DJ ButtAss was born.   I'm still pretty proud of my Sounds Like entry ("A mentally unstable trash-compactor anally violating a homeless veteran in an alley behind a tattoo-parlor").  If only my drunken blippity-blaps actually sounded like that.

Man, the solo shit is amazing (The Starfighters) - what'd you think of us?

Thanks! It was one of the ones I added. It must be awesome to play with other people who are actually capable of handling unusual time signatures like 7/4. Is it? I imagine it is, but I have never experienced it myself.

Also Johnny I know you like it better that way! I just like "The Starfighters" better because I don't want people to think I'm going it alone!

...

Fuck I should've just called it STARFIGHTER after all.

Haha, it's 7/8, actually.  But they don't have any idea how to play them (yet), I recorded that myself!

But yeah, I heart math/post/feedback.

*bump*

I wrote a new song for my ambient band.  I think it sounds really lovely where I don't muck up the guitar bits.  It was like, one in the morning, and I was pretty much composing and recording it on the spot.  It's really cool, though.  I used my guitar like a set of bongos, after tying a bandana on the strings to dampen them.

Linkage.

It's "Together for One Night."
