Not my own band, but the band I am friends with / promoter for / a huge fan of:

www.youtube.com/jtcbrown

About 20 videos from 2 shows, audio quality came out fantastic for a YouTube clip.

No worries.  The Caterwauls are good guys (or sometimes just a good guy, as their lead singer often plays solo).  Anybody else in P-town, Arizona?

We're the Spring Street Slangaz. It started as a drunken joke sometime after Christmas, but people like it so we keep making more. When you listen to it take it with a grain of salt. We don't take it seriously and you shouldn't either. We only do it for fun and I hope ya’ll get a good laugh from it.

My solo acoustic stuff. I think there's like, one original song on there, a bunch of covers, plus a Christmas one I've not taken down yet?

Is the source audio of that video that bad?  I've managed to figure out how to get a $500 digicam to produce pretty high-quality YouTube vids, if you would like some help PM me.

Check the link in my sig for some examples, doubt you'll dig the band but you can at least see that even amateurs can make quality videos :D

I'd love to say whether I dug it or not, but the audio is just horrid, I can't tell what I'm listening to!

Secret Number 1:  VirtualDub (or VirtualDub-MPEG) - the best freeware video conversion / splitting software I've found.

What you want to do is compress your video but leave the audio RAW / WAV.  Most cameras are going to record in raw MPEG-2, so use VirtualDub-MPEG as VDub itself doesn't like MPEG-2 streams.

Once you load the video into VirtualDub-MPEG, you go to the Video menu, select compression, and select XVid as your video codec.  Don't touch the audio.  Set your start and stop points in the video, and then "Save as AVI..." from the file menu (you might want to first locate or move the "Output" folder so you know where to find the split clips.)

If the file is still too big, then delete the new .avi and go back to the compression options, there is a slider (under "advanced..." I think) for Quality / File Size.  Slide it towards the smaller file size end a bit, try it again, keep adjusting that slider till you have the file size you want.  It will look worse the farther to the right you go.

This allows you to compress the video while leaving the audio alone.

This all assumes your video camera captured the audio well to begin with, if the source video sounds like crap, there is nothing any program will do to improve it (that I know of.)

(Going to post this as its own thread as well.)

Why are you guys not math rock? I am upset by this. (But seriously, I'm digging your stuff.)

Matt sine cosine and tangent are trig stuff. For finding angles in triangles and such. Is that what you want to know?

My friend Israel started a project called Seatree. The name is a play on both the middle names of his two sons. Izzy and I are thinking of doing a split LP with a few collaborative tracks, and I was just wondering if anybody would check his stuff out. Right now it's two songs, one that is semi-acoustic and is about his newborn second son, and another that is a heavier instrumental jam with an asston of guitar layering. It's his first time actually putting any of his work on the inter-nets and I am definitely pleased to hear what he's been up to for the last year.

I've been in a couple of bands though none of them have every really come to anything but one or two gigs. Though me and the drummer from my old band are planning on getting together at some point during the summer and recording an EP.
Anyway, here's one www.myspace.com/preposterone . The 3rd song on there I actually wrote and recorded last night. The other two were just spontaneous jams. We do have actual songs, just not recorded.
The other is www.myspace.com/themetalbandtheband , we were sort of, a completely not serious metal covers band. I think there's a video or two on there as well. :)

My band, Fritzwicky, were featured in the tripleJ  (Australia-wide radio station) unearthed playlist last week, and our song Antimatter (Doesn't Matter) hit #14 on the Indie chart and #66 on the overall chart for the week. Massive thanks to anyone and everyone who might have checked us out and helped us get there, it means a lot knowing people are actually listening to our stuff - and keep an eye out, we uploaded another track last week that should be online soon!

I was looking for a thread about this! Yay for the search function being alive!

My friend and I started a kind of side project...even though neither of us have any other projects. We plan on making all of our music totally free and downloadable. If we make EPs, they'll be put up on torrent sites, but we do hope to make them buyable if people so desire (they'll be made by us directly, no middle man). We're thinking of making some shirts too, if we find that people really like what we're doing.

We try to define ourselves as being a mix of Hellogoodbye, PlayRadioPlay!, and Ratatat.

I've just put together a mini album's worth of stuff. You can download the mp3s if you want, or there's a myspace if you just want to have a quick listen.
I'd appreciate any feedback if you want to slate me. I warn you, it's electronic (although two tracks have guitars).

Definitely will do - we'd love to take the band interstate sometime, but we should probably get our EP sorted first.

Incidentally, we have a new song up at the triplej unearthed site now. To anyone that helped get us on the charts (and stay there for a second week), thanks again!

Oh, I might as well throw this out there too - one thing we get asked a lot (as I'm sure most bands do) is what we sound like, and we don't really know (I mean, we know our influences but that doesn't really mean that's what we sound like). If anyone has some time to kill and feels like doing us a favor, have a listen to a few of our songs and let us know what you hear in there. (it could be frowned upon asking for replies in this thread, so maybe PM could be better?)

myspace.com/bayleyasher ! entirely un-experimental, jacking chord progressions from the nineteen-thirties and name-dropping icons and concepts left and right! painfully pretending to be every previous prominent white boy with an acoustic guitar who's yet been successful!

we should be recording soon, my drummer is much better than the garageband we have up there...

Hah, I'd take it as a compliment.  It's a bit hectic at times and the guitars get all muddied up together, but I like it.
