Alone - The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo
« on: 20 Dec 2007, 06:17 »

Rivers is one of the only reasons I still have hope in the music industry, but thats just the horrible fanboy inside me talking.
It seems though that this album seems a little half baked compared to lets say, The Pixies demo compilations.
I love every second of this album but there is this bitter feeling somewhere.

Am I wrong? Other thoughts on the album? etc.

A friend of mine picked this up, I think.

The early demos I'm excited for, the recent ones not so much. The last record was so incredibly awful.

But the A5 demos were so, so good.

Anyway. Digging this right now. I totally forgot about "Longtime Sunshine", such a good song.

The demos for Album 5 shat all over the actual album, though I do like it a lot.

I need to buy this tomorrow.

nooooooo :(

I refuse to entertain a Weezer relapse, I refuse to revisit my ATNW days...

That being said, Blast Off has always kicked ass. Who knows, I might idly download this some day.

I love this compilation.  If it could count as an album, it'd be one of my favourites of the year.  Plenty of fantastic songs, even the newer ones.  As has been said, the A5 demos were great, so I really believe the band has somethings still going for them, and I'm looking forward to the album that they're putting together for next year.

As has already been said, those Album 5 demos from a couple of years previously were some truly great songs. They would have made a really interesting double album.

What the fuck happened?

Rivers went back to Harvard to finish up his degree between the A5 demos and the actual album.

I'm blaming Harvard.

Hah. Who goes to harvard and becomes a professional musician? I've got a friend who refuses to listen to Weezer just because of that.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Does anyone else get the feeling that this release is a desperate stab at indie cred/old Weezer fan cred after a good three albums of populist crap?? I mean, in retrospect, the Green Album isn't completely terrible, but it is kind of the beginning of the end, right??

I couldn't care less about whether it's a stab at "cred" or not.  I only care that it's a collection of really great songs.  I'm happy enough with that.

It's not really a cred-grab. These songs have all been floating around for years and Cuomo was in whole or in part responsible for that. It's more a way to collect them all.

I actually like Maladroit more than I do the Green Album.

There's a definite difference between the gleeful embrace of populist rock music embodied by the first record and the callous shallow garbage on Make Believe though.

Well yeah, for you to be able to verify that statement you'd have to sit through Make Believe once.
