Yeah, I have to admit that dodgy punctuation really does it for me.

And did I mention Hadouken! ?

The album "Superbass!!!" by the band 'Giraffes? Giraffes!' is a fairly offensive use of punctuation. The new Man Man album is due out shortly. Damn do I love Man Man. This aught to be awesome.

This thread needs more people masturbating over the White EP.
Can anybody guess what is wrong with the above statement?

Anyway, the White EP is pretty rad. I do prefer Agalloch's metal side though.

The album "Superbass!!!" by the band 'Giraffes? Giraffes!' is fucking awesome and everyone should listen to it. Their new album is awesome too. It is less scatter-brained and has better production. The songs even have some pretty parts.

I am excited for Takka Takka: Migration.
Also, A.C. Newman is working on a new one right now, that sounds like it'll be a bit more "rocking" than past efforts.
And I just heard The Acorn for the first time last week, and they just released an album called Glory Hope Mountain, and I love it.
Oh yeah, Architecture in Helsinki is doing an EP in the spring!

When AC Newman says 'rock', he means the Electric Version and Superconductor.

But no new LP until 2009.  So it was one of those good news/bad news announcements.  Incidentally, they want you to vote for them in some sort of Aussie music awards thingum.

And that's a bad thing?  I like the new Mountain Goats.  And from this thread I'm looking forward to new Thermals and Wolf Parade.

Beach House! The only real record to blow me away and gift me with beautiful melodies. The songs "All the Years" and "Home Again" are my personal favorites.

Of coarse I love Cat Power's one. I don't care if it isn't a good record per se, it seems my obsession has blinded me to the objective truth of the matter. Plus, "Ramblin Woman" is a great song, perfect for her.

Oh and "Blue" (Joni's original) is my favorite song of all time. Chan does a pretty tight version.

Apparently there is a new Joanna Newsom album coming out this year and it'll be more poppy than the previous? Though the previous was five ten or so minute songs. I'll be eager to hear more about this.

I think I can cope without another album of pretentious crap sung by a retarded elf, thanks all the same.

Currently listening to the new Portishead album.  I'm not sure I like it.  I think they've tried a bit too hard not to sound like Dummy.

Oh no, the last thing we need is for this to turn into yet another 'I like Joanna Newsom's voice' vs. 'Joanna Newsom sounds like a retarded child' debate.

On topic, The Gregor Samsa is not, as I mentioned before, all that and a kettle of fish, as I believe the saying goes. It has a lot of potential but it feels restrained in a stilted sense. Instead of the epic, soaring moments of the previous album, this one has all the build up but none of the pay off. If the band had stuck to making an album with a more ambient focus, it would have been wonderful. Instead they've created something ultimately misleading and frustrating. It's still pretty beautiful but the continual inconclusiveness of the songs stands out too strongly after several listens for me not to be let down with the album overall.

It's not a debate.  She does sound like a retarded child, but some people like her voice anyway.  I don't number among them.

I have a friend who used to go on here but was labeled a troll and banned... Is that you Matthew??

Oh and what the fuck, where did that guy find news of a new Joanna Newsom album? Was he just promoting a stupid debate over her instead of a good discussion of 2008 albums?

No, it bloomin' well isn't.  Please don't suggest it; sockpuppeteering is not something you want to associate people with.

I vaguely recall reading something about it in Uncut.  My interest in her music being south of nil I can't say more, though.

NO U

Also, I heard it mentioned on the radio and posted right after that. I haven't really looked online.

[fake edit] the 'no u' is there to say that while I don't agree with you the argument is stupid and I wont have it with you. I would skip straight to calling you names like 'poopyface' and 'stupidhead' because they are just as dumb as arguing about Joanna Newsom.

This thread has gone too far off its intended course, and not enough has been said about the fact that there is a NEW JUDAS PRIEST ALBUM COMING OUT.

I know i said I'd give other music its due, but you all clearly have your priorities twisted. :P

Wikipedia says that Politics Don't Sell Records is coming out this year.  I can't find a source but it seems likely since The Thermals haven't announced any recent shows, but they've already named the album in interviews.  Sweet!

I don't know where Wikipedia got that, but the Thermals official website says the name of the album is Stay Warm.

I know that, but now I'm trying to decide which name I like better, the fake Wikipedia name or the Official Website tentative name.

Anyways, back on topic.  My favorites so far are the new Los Campesinos!, Times New Viking, and Steven Malkmus albums.  If the Thermals do end up releasing the new one this year I can almost guarantee it'll be my favorite though.

I've bought the Gutter Twins album today and I'll be back at some point to give my early thoughts.

I also got the album by a band called Slaves To Gravity. It's nothing Earth-shattering, but it's well-produced, tight and anthemic.

I waited until about 1am to listen to the Gutter Twins album because as anyone who likes Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan will know, their music is made for the darkness. The album feels like a logical extension of Lanegan's recent solo albums and the last Twilight Singers record, but without as much of a kitchen-sink production. This is only on one listen, but there was a song towards the end called 'Bete Noire' which had a fantastic rhythm and the arrangement kind of swells over the song's running time, it's a hell of a track. Anyone else going to get this album?

The Gutter Twins have been getting hype for a really long time now. More than a year, I think. I'm sure Misreatur is aware of the album. I'm not into them which is a real shame.
Each time Greg Dulli releases an album, it makes my 'top 5 of year' list. He has only three entries in my top 20 of all time, since you're only allowed one release per moniker. I guess the gutter twins could still grow on me.

Edit: It would appear that Greg Dulli has lost half his body weight while in the Gutter Twins. For this reason alone, I'll listen to it until I like it. Sexy sexy Dulli, rawrrrr.

Wait, are you including his solo album? Because I thought that was a big bag of wank, in stark contrast to Powder Burns which as I've said was for my money, the best album of 2006.

I think Erykah Badu's new album is really strong.

I don't know if indie fans are the right people to praise it to though, because it's in no way derivative of Pavement or Joy Division.

Opeth have described their new album as 'a bit more energetic'?

Prediction: In about six albums they'll be a more talented Porcupine Tree, and Porcupine Tree will be a slightly less talented Opeth.

I don't really understand--I thought Ghost Reveries was their most "energetic" album to date.

And what are you talking about? Porcupine Tree has just been increasing in terms of how good they are, though "Fear of a Blank Planet" was something of a let-down. The Nil Recurring EP more than made up for it, though.

Ghost Reveries smacked of Porcupine Tree influence. They've been getting more and more progressive since they began.

Whereas Fear of a Blank Planet smacked of Opeth and Meshuggah influence, and they're getting more and more metal.

If the leaked Portishead is in fact not quite finished, as it doesn't seem to be (the songs begin and end abruptly), it may make the list. Though, it does take a while to get into, although quite worth it.

Also, Probably the new Gnarls, although I realize I'm in the minority. But I does love it so.

The albums that are going to blow up like nothing else in 2008 will be:

"The End Begins" by Tantric
"Indestructible" by Disturbed
And whatever the new Slipknot record is called.

Others that I'm hoping show up sometime this year are:

"Purple" by Days of the New
The Saint Caine album

Bah my music is wasted on you people, I see. Most people don't get Slipknot or Disturbed. Do any of you ralize that they have a lot of different sounding songs than the ones you've probably heard on the radio or TV? Whatever. Wasted on you people  . I still think those albums are going ot be great even if most of you don't like loud music.
