Guys, if any of you midwesterners want to road trip, it would make more sense for me to drive, since I was planning on it anyway. It is only 12 hours straight up from Atlanta to Chi-town, so this will be easy-peasy! I need money for gas if anyone wants to come. My car is a sedan (dunno what kind yet), so I am assuming I can fit comfortably 3 people, legally 4, other than myself, so long as no one brings their Hot Air Industrial Strength Hair Dryer along. Misconception? Dennis? Joe? Matt? Anyone from Chicago want a ride up?
I would love to say yes, but I am unsure if I'd go. Maybe, maybe not, I don't know. I'm sorry for sucking guys!

is that completely unbearable? i don't think i've ever been in a moving vehicle for longer than 6 hours.
I've been on road trips longer than that. Hell, I drove a UHaul from NYC to Chicago this summer. However, I am unusually patient with long trips (the whole commuter zen thing helps a lot on public transportation) and Greyhound buses are often full of freaky sorts.

Ruyi pointed it out before and i did in the last thread.  FLY INTO BUFFALO.  I will pick you up so long as you're not a terrorist.  I might be able to actually make the whole weekend of this now, woohoo.  I'll have my car there, legally and quasi comfortably fits 5.

wait, so you might possibly be able to pick me up from buffalo? i can't share driving since i don't have my license, but i can help pay for gas...although i guess it is only like two hours.

With 14-day advanced purchase I could take the Greyhound from Oregon to Toronto for only $99.  Duration of trip: 3d, 3h, 40m.

Damn! You must live on the other side of the country, then.

oh dang.

I drove to Philly a few months ago, which is a 12 hour drive for me, and it may be boring and your butt will most likely feel like it's going to fall off, since you're not used to long long drives. BUT if you bring things to entertain yourself (headphones, book, etc) or take a bus that mostly goes at night and can sleep on a moving vehicle (which I can do very easily), you should be okay. The way I was thinking for a bus is leave the day before, since it's about a 12 hour ride from where I am, and go where I leave the night before and arrive the next morning. Then I can get my room, nap if I need to, and be ready for hangouts. I haven't ridden on Greyhound before, but I've done buses and done long road trips, so I know I can do it. (And it will be far better than riding in a car with 5 other people when the driver drives in a way where you feel you're going to die every few seconds.)

And V_P, I think we and other people could just bring sleeping bags and build a fort so we don't have to sleep at the foot of the bed. Beds are overrated compared to forts, anyways, especially for large gatherings like this!

I feel it necessary to point out at this point in time that yelley does not in fact love you, but rather that she was exposed to horrible magical radiation while in Japan and is consequently now a terrifying human-eating monster that wants to lure you into her den.

Shit loads of cut states
Much better already.

If you come through Ohio (southwestern tip, where I am has I-74, which leads straight out into Illinois), I will definitely come. If not, but are still planning to go through Chicago, I could also get out there. This would be far more pleasant than a bus.

Hey, I'm from Arizona, don't be insulting my birthplace!

Actually, I dunno why I have any pride for the place, I moved to WI when I was 1. I've visited plenty though, and while much of Arizona is a shithole (e.g. phoenix), Flagstaff, where I was born, is a pretty cool area I think.

As far as Ohio goes, I had hoped to stay as far away from West Virginia as I possibly could for the rest of my life. I say that a reasonable radius is like 200 or 300 miles. Can I still come and get you? Maybe! What major interstate do you live near?

Texas gave us Bedhead.

Also - Sam and Jen.

However, it also gave us Tom DeLay, Alberto Gonzales, Anna Nicole Smith, Vanilla Ice, Richard Ramirez, and above all the absolutely insufferable Dallas Cowboys.

Also San Antonio, which I thought was a very pretty place.

One of the few good things about northern Cincinnati is that it's basically surrounded on all four sides by highways, three of which are major. I-75 is the closest to where I live, but I-71 is close, as well as I-275 (the one in OH, KY, and IN, as there are 275's in some other states, too) which basically circles the city and also connects to I-74.

I might be taking a bus over to Toronto sometime this summer with a few friends. We'll get a ho/motel for a few nights if we do this.

If I do, it would probably be in late June, though. This all depends on how much money I save up from work.

You guys remember that excellent moment from the hitchhiker's guide when Ford and Zaphod first see each other? All the build-up about how cool it is and then they just kind of shrug each other off with a glance? I think the TV series captured the essence of that moment the best, but why I bring it up is because that is how I think this thing should go down.
We will do all this planning and then just kind of casually stroll past each other with maybe half a nod and then go back home. That'd be so cool.

I was actually just planning on turning up with my physical appearance so radically altered that none of you would recognise me. I would stay in the same hotel or hostel as most of you, but not actually hang out with any of you nor speak to any of you nor even acknowledge your presence.

It would be a kind of dadaist meet-up.
