I don't know if the Facebook group thing has changed at all, but if there does wind up being a con in San Fran, I am all over that like Michael Jackson on an all-male boarding school.

We're not sure right now what the plan on it is. I sent one of the mods a PM about unlocking the other thread briefly so I could update some details that have arisen, but no go.

As it stands, yelley can only make one meet, and it's going to be Chicago. Considering she was the only forumite who had committed to going that was that far north, there's been talk of moving it south to maybe San Diego or Las Vegas (Phoenix has also been brought up, though summarily dismissed).

Any suggestions from West coast area forumites on how far they're willing to travel and what the odds of them being able to make it are would be appreciated. Given, I can only plan out so much of this end as I've got Boston to plan and I know all of jack and shit about that region and won't be attending. A volunteer from the area to help me plan who can definitely make a meet would be awesome. I figure yelley and I could add them as an admin to the Facebook group.

We've pretty much nailed the pre-meets down as either the second or third weekend of January, so it would be during college break, but after the holidays. Chicago is also effectively iron cast as August, as the majority of interested parties seem to be most interested in August.

P.S.: It looks like we've nailed down Boston as being the weekend of January 16 through 18. Jimmy's probably coming into town on the fourteenth via teleoprtation and Gemm is going to be trying to make it too. We should also have an Eed.

In other words, our meetup is going to be pretty effectively bitching, as it will have international flavor. We'll have English and Australian attendees and maybe Eed can be convinced to drag Canadian Mike along.

i just want to say that throwing your meet-up in las vegas would be totally bitching, although ideally everyone should be 21+

upside: there's so much to do out there, even if you don't gamble/drink

downside: costs big money

Boston is pretty well out for me, I think, as airfare isn't the cheapest. I could fly to Florida for less than I could get to Boston over winter break. However, if the west coast one is moved to Vegas I might be able to go. There's a discount airline that runs from Fargo to Vegas for pretty cheap, anywhere from $100 to $300.

So if I forsee myself having enough money at the time, and that meet-up is set before I go back to school on the 12th, I will try my best to make it.

Also I turn 21 on the 8th of January.

Fuckin' Vegas.

i fully support the idea of a vegas meet... but it can't be for a few years. not everyone is 21 yet. (read: not everyone that yelley would like to go to vegas with is 21 yet.)

i know whenever people post things like this it's really annoying and kind of pointless but i'm not making any commitments as of yet because come on it's over a year away  and anything could happen. i will say though that there's a very good chance i'll go to the next meetup no matter where it is, if it's post april, because that point i'll be out of school and likely doing absolutely nothing else with my life. personally i'd like to go to chicago because it's just a great city. i'll get back to everyone in 2009 i guess.

I'm pretty sure I'll make it to Chicago, as it's not that far away and I have friends there, and I'm pretty sure I can make it to Boston if I can find cheap lodgings again.

But the more pressing matter is - where are Tommy's photos?

For the sake of trivial matters, a few of us in Gabbly have calculated the approximate size and weight of the present Boston meetup.

We collectively weigh approximately 1670 pounds and are 51.83 feet (Or 10.91 Hudas) long.

The meetup will be about 18% Jon in weight distribution and 22% of the length.

This study is for purely scientific purposes. I wish to know what we can all stand on at once.

As Eed said, Boston/West coast is six months away, Chicago is just over a year.

The one that is currently up in the air is the west coast meetup. We need to gauge a relative desired turnout. If I could get a list of people potentially interest, we could try to pin down a central location.

My bias toward San Francisco is strong, especially since transit in and around the city (both public transit and pedestrianism) is so easy to manage. And it's a 15 minute drive from my dad's house to the BART station in Pleasanton to get there, then only 45 minutes away from there.

Transportation and lodging is pretty easy, too. Hostels out the ass! There's the airport to get in, and there's BART to get around.

Not only that, but Chinatown has the best Chinese food anywhere in the world, Fisherman's Wharf has awesome seafood, and holy shit the Haight-Ashbury District has one of the three best record stores on the face of the planet. It's like the Google of record stores. If Amoeba doesn't have it, it does not exist. Berkeley's right next door, and if I remember right, there's charter buses that can take you down to Santa Cruz. A good walk downtown in either town's downtown area is guaranteed to yield fun times.

I finally uploaded a whole bunch of photos to Flickr and Facebook. I took over 500 photos but I condensed them to 264 of my favourites. Sorry that I am not good at photography. I have a pretty good camera though so occasionally some of the photos came out okay from blind luck. Assorted photos were by other people, namely JC and Liz from my memory.

Here is the set in my Flickr. The photos here are full sized but it's annoying to browse them frankly.
On Facebook they are split across five folders because there is a sixty photo limit per folder. You should get them here. Otherwise just follow the tags.
There's also a small video I made which is okayish. It can be found on Youtube here. Please click 'Watch in High Quality'!

Finally, thanks to everyone who came and made this worthwhile. Especially to Mike and Edith, who bore the brunt of the logistical organisation out of kindness. Also to Jeph and Cristi for making all this possible in the first place.

children's museums are a good concept, but usually they are not very well taken care of. kids are jerks and a lot of the exhibits get broken and junk. plus they are always full of kids. gross.

You got the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and the Museum of Science and Industry, and you're excited about the Children's Museum?
I think art patrons will frown if I run around and poke things and giggle to myself while viewing American Gothic, and I missed out on the one in Amsterdam, so I kinda want to go to this one and see if it is any good.

New Orleans anyone? That's where it's at. It's not so scary down in the deep south.
