Protest the Hero - Fortress
« on: 25 Jan 2008, 01:04 »

Holy crap this is an amazing album. It hits store 1-29-08, but it has leaked, and it's also up on their myspace. This is just a freakin awesome album. I will definitely be picking it up. If you've never heard of them, you need to. Their stuff sounds unlike any other band that I've heard.

You should definitely check it out.

Protest the Hero are pretty much terrible. This is a conclusion I have reached after 5 months of them (along with some other crappy bands that sound almost exactly alike) blaring out of my roommate's speakers almost non-stop.

I'm a music newbie. I didn't get into this type of stuff until like last year, up until that I was stuck in just ska and punk stuff and that was it.

I dunno, I like PTH, but I don't really listen to this genre very often, they're pretty much the only band like this I listen to. My opinion may be skewed.

I fucking loved PTH's first album, but from the two tracks I've heard from Fortress, I'm preparing to be disappointed.

I haven't heard any of their music, but I think their band name is pretty shitty.

Their vocalist is trying to sound like the hardcore version of the guy from Coheed and Cambria.

And their song names are horrendous.

Hilarity ensues!

It's OK, they have a hard time taking themselves seriously as well. They're quite aware they're ridiculous, and tend to take the piss at every given oppurtunity.

Man, I am highly disturbed you think I'm an expert on this kind of music. Although...

Okay, so when I started listening to a track it seemed alright at first, I thought I was in for some sub-Into The Moat tech chuggery and Into The Moat are a pretty good effort, so something pretty generic but bland rather than bad. Then the singer who thinks he's in Avenged Sevenfold turned up (in other words, woeful wannabe power metal). I think he was attempting death metal vocals too at one point but my brain had shut down by then. You should either check out Into The Moat and maybe The End or get yourself some good power metal like, um... oh I don't know. Hammerfall did that amazing video where they battle the Swedish Women's Olympic curling team, so they get my vote. The women's team wins the match and then become Hammerfall, as being good at curling is clearly the ultimate test of who is the most metal. If you like this you'll probably have some fun with those bands.
