Hey, hey Jon. Instead of peeing standing up, maybe you should try giving birth sometime. Oh wait, don't have a uterus? Oh man, guess you lose. Not that I've had kids, but I have potential!

We don't have any ice cream. I had to settle for a brownie with milk. It was an okay choice.

I like all the wacky flavours of ice-cream, like Banana, Cotton Candy and Moon Mist. I generally prefer hard ice-cream to soft. If I have vanilla I usually just make ice-cream floats or smoothies, or throw some caramel sauce on it. Man, Ice Cream is really awesome phenomenal. This thread is pretty sexy now.

Every time there is a blizzard, I will go to Dairy Queen.
Never fails to happen

Also, it was 2 degrees here the other day as well with a wind chill of like -25

Last year, I remember a day when it was -45 with wind chill and I had to walk over a really really cold bridge.  it was brutal

I like chocolate chip and any variant on it. Mint, raspberry, peanut butter, cherry cordial, etc. They are all delicious. Especially when they are from this place. If you ever come to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and don't visit this place, you are crazy and are not allowed to come back.

Ah, yes. Graeter's Ice Cream.  I used to eat Graeter's (various flavors) while listening to the "Fine Arts Music" program on Sunday morning, on WEBN.  As well as eating it at other times, of course.  Although when the temperature was below freezing, I usually ate Skyline instead.

Wait, are we comparing cold again? When I was home for christmas, I was outside when numerical value of the temperature in celsius was greater than the numerical value of the temperature in fahrenheit. It was that cold.

Deep fried ice-cream.

It's kind of good in a strange, unsettling way.

I've had that once or twice but it didn't really grab me. I'm not really a fan of deep fried anything though.

Vanilla would be my favourite flavour since it's reliable and plays nice with nearly everything. It's also pretty much plain, which is nice.

I would sell my soul if I could find more of this.

My favorite ice cream is chocolate, although I like to try interesting new flavors. Just nothing involving mint.

My favorite sundae is chocolate ice cream with strawberry sauce and walnuts. Is that an odd combination of flavors? I've often wondered about that but never actually checked.

Hooray for challenge pissing!

I trump you all. Today it was two degrees and I had ice cream at supper.
Two days ago my girlfriend and I stopped for milkshakes on the way home from skiing in Wisconsin. It was -12 degrees.

I like cherry ice cream, but not from the store. I like to make my own. I get about a quarter cup of mariscino cherries and the juice for them, put 'em in a Magic Bullet, and make a mariscino cherry mash. I then get vanilla ice cream, put it on a cutting board, and fold in the Mariscino cherry mash. Once all the ice cream is pink and the cheries are well spread out, it's good to eat.

Yeah, it's work, but it tastes SO much better than when it's bought that flavor. Same can be done with almost anything, though I personally would stay away from some of the more exotic flavors (anchovy ice cream would make my mouth sad  :-( :-( :-( ).

My hometown has just opened three frozen yogurt places within three blocks.  Frozen yogurt just makes me miss ice cream.

(But it's okay, 'cause on those three blocks, there are also two ice cream shops.  (How can we support five frozen-treat stores and not a single bookstore?))

My town should be going the same way soon. The local bookstore isn't doing very well, and they will probably go under soon. Baskin-Robbins is opening up down the street. This will begin the infiltration of chains into our completely homegrown business town. It is kind've sad.

The Haagen Daaz Irish Cream ice cream that was mentioned earlier is great, but their Banana Split and Caramelized Pear with Toasted Pecans flavors are even better.  My overall favorite flavor of ice cream is the Tiramisu Gelato that they serve at Zoey's Cafe.  It's a block and a half from my bank, so every two weeks on payday I buy myself a cone and walk home while eating it.  Yes, it's winter.  Yes, there is snow on the ground.  No, that does not mean it's "not ice cream weather".  It's TIRAMISU GELATO.  It's always ice cream weather.

You are wrong because I do not like nuts or coffee. Also bananas in ice cream, because that has always struck me as just weird.

Not liking nuts is a valid reason to be dissuaded from the pear/pecan flavor, and ditto for the tiramisu if you don't like coffee.  Haagen Daaz Banana Split, though, does not actually have any discernible banana flavor or content.  What it does have is a base of "whipped cream ice cream" that is unbelievable, along with an absolutely amazing chocolate fudge swirl, plus cherries and strawberries.

Bacon and egg ice cream

This forms part of a dessert served at the restaurant. It's a twist on breakfast: caramelised brioche in place of toast, tomato and red pepper compote for jam, chewy salted butter caramel with wild mushrooms, and this ice cream, all washed down with a small cup of jellied Earl Grey. The idea stemmed from thinking about why some ice cream tastes of egg. I came to the conclusion that it's because the custard is overcooked. When you cook custard, the heat makes the proteins in the egg coagulate, which thickens the mix. If you continue cooking the custard, it will scramble, with the proteins completely clumped together. Egg yolk sets at 72C. So, by cooking the custard to 82C or more, as advised in many traditional recipes, the proteins begin to coagulate. Although the custard may still look liquid, tiny clumps of protein will have formed. And so, according to the coffee bean theory, the custard will be full of little bursts of egg flavour.

All of which got me thinking about how to exploit this eggy flavour, and so this recipe was born.

300g sliced streaky smoked bacon
1 litre full fat milk
25g skimmed milk powder
24 egg yolks
50g liquid glucose
175g unrefined caster sugar

Roast the bacon in an oven at 180C until slightly browned. Place in cold milk and leave to marinate overnight. Tip the milk and bacon into a casserole, and add the milk powder. Put the egg yolks, glucose and sugar in a mixing bowl and, using an electric whisk, mix at high speed until white and increased in volume.

Heat the milk and bacon mix to simmering and, with the whisk still going, pour a little on to the yolks. Tip this back into the milk pan, and cook over a lowish heat until it hits 85C. Hold at this temperature for 30 seconds, then remove from the heat. Cool the mixture down by stirring it over ice, tip into a blender and liquidise until smooth. Pass through a sieve and churn.

it's 44F here (that's freezing for us poor folk who live in texas and are accustomed to wearing short sleeves in december), but i still went out and bought a half gallon of ice cream. it was delicious. in fact i will eat some right now...

Long pointless story: My dad worked on oil tankers, and would switch ships at times. Well, some ships did not have ice cream sandwiches and some did. So, since it was around -15F he would stick ice cream sandwiches or those Drumstick ice creams in his pockets. So then when he did get on the ships without ice cream, he would whip out his Klondike bar or whatever, and everyone else would get insanely jealous/confused. He would wait a bit though, and then pull it out. So no one could figure out where in the hell it came from, since he would usually be on deck the entire time. Anyways, moral of the story, in Alaska ice cream doesn't melt if you stick it in your pockets.

I would like to try carrot cake ice cream, with little bits of cream cheese icing and walnuts in it.

Rice Divine has a Carrot Cake flavor.  It's a cake and cream cheese flavored base with chunks of carrot cake in it.  It is pretty good, but might be weird if you're used to eating real ice cream.  Rice Divine is made of rice milk.

I discovered Purely Decadent soy ice cream and I don't even miss the regular stuff.  It is so many kinds of good.  The Turtle Trails has chocolate covered praline pecan pieces and swirls of caramel.  If I had any money, I would gladly eat it even though it has been -20 Fahrenheit.  When I get paid next Friday, I am going grocery shopping, and it will be good.

What is not good is this strawberry bagel I just tried to eat.  I gave the rest of it to my cat.  He is going to town on it.
