EA proposed Take 2 acquisition for $2 billion
« on: 24 Feb 2008, 14:15 »

Woooo consolidation!

This would put EA in control of Irrational, that studio that's making Mafia 2, 3D Realms, and many others. Rockstar's contract with Take 2 ends in a few months, so they might be able to dodge the bullet if the acquisition goes through.

As much as I hate to say it, I think 3d Realms at least could probably use the boot to the ass, erm, I'm sorry, the proper motivation EA would bring to the table, and I think that the other developers involved generally have their shit together well enough to stay on track regardless of an acquisition.

Naysayers say nay.

They say nay for now. But now the stockholders know about it, and we'll see how they react.

To be honest, I'm not really surprised. You had to figure EA was looking to get back ahead of the Activision-Vivendi behemoth, and this is a plum target considering Take-Two both has a ton of valuable properties but also a buttload of financial troubles. Still, with all these rumors of a revival of System Shock, wouldn't it be funny if Levine was put back on the the series that never got the appreciation it deserved until nearly a decade after Looking Glass was dissolved?
