Jet Rock Anyone?
« on: 26 Feb 2008, 08:18 »

I've been listening to alot of GuitarWOLF lately and it's really been getting back into the jet rock genre.
Anyone else on this thread listen to this sort of stuff?
If so... any bands you may recommend?

It's basically a really distorted version of rock and roll with a slight punk influence.
Very hard to describe actually

Clorox Girls? The Real Losers? The Hipshakes? Guitar Wolf just sound like a bad ass punk band playing in somebody's garage to me, I don't know anything about this jet rock thing (and do we need a genre just for Guitar Wolf? Maybe, they are deeply amazing) but if you like them then you might like those bands.

I've listened to the Clorox Girls before, the other two bands are pretty good
New bomb Turks have been high up on my list also.

This basically sounds like a garage revival band with a shitty recording set-up.

I think Tommy misinterpreted your post as saying that Jet rocks and got very upset.

Oh I realize now.

It's the Japanese rip-off of American garage and punk bands.

With jets!  As for recommendations, there's always early Jesus and Mary Chain and Dinosaur Jr.  if you don't listen to them already.  And their bastard love-child A Place To Bury Strangers

None of those bands are anything like Guitar Wolf though, but they do fit the description.

Oh I realize now.

It's the Japanese rip-off of American garage and punk bands.

But about a thousand times better. For my money, Guitar Wolf are probably the best band playing that kind of garage punk stuff in the world. Plus, they can kill zombies with their guitars.

Yeah, except it takes work to make "Jet Rock" sound like masturbation music.

last time i checked, guitar wolf made that genre up as a joke to describe themselves.

Oh I realize now.

It's the Japanese rip-off of American garage and punk bands.

But about a thousand times better. For my money, Guitar Wolf are probably the best band playing that kind of garage punk stuff in the world. Plus, they can kill zombies with their guitars.

I concur wholeheatedly with you my brothers.

I saw Guitar Wolf live a while back. Awesome. They did about 5 encores.

I hope you were joking when you said "slight" punk influence?

I always thought j-rock just meant Japanese rock, which is a pretty unhelpful term since it could mean anything from Spraypaint to Ruins.

I'm going to recommend Career Suicide and Regulations because, well, they're great and they kind of fit the bill. Also, I accuse The Danger Bros of using their mother's combs and suggest they come around to steal my money any time they like.

During one show I declared that we "sprung fully-formed from the womb of the power chord."

So, nice try.
