So there are a lot of new people on the forum as of late.

I created a little thread over in the Comic Discussion forum essentially suggesting that, when they feel like it's time to start exploring the other areas of the site, that they spend some time getting to know the community.

I am essentially going to trust that this is the case, and further I am going to trust the regulars on this side of the forum not to bite the new folks.

Although, I'm not sure if you can really call 4chan a "fourm"...I dunno.

As for the influx of new people...I apologize for being rude to them, I know it's not really my place and all that jazz, but seriously --is it so hard to read rules and introduce yourself --especially if you're going to post in places other then the WCT? Jeez.

I'm the other way around. As in, I'm the opposite of someone who needs to be careful when posting anywhere other than WCT. I made a conscious decision to stop posting there, because it was making me rather an asshole.

I didn't read the rules. I thought it should be pretty obvious what goes where and that being new means you should be polite until you get into the swing of things if you never lurked. (I lurked for a while before posting.) But maybe I am/was used to forums like the ones I was on before joining this one which were made up of meat life friends and were friendly anyways. Edit: However this was just me personally. The rules in the Hi, I'm New forum in the topic started by Jeph are pretty important. The other two were made by the people who were officially designated for a time to greet new posters, but really are less relevant. Yes, it's nice if a person follows all the rules, but really, as long as you follow the guidelines that matter, I don't see what the big deal is.

Basically, if people don't act stupid and have good spelling/grammar, it shouldn't be hard to get involved here when older posters aren't being dicks.

Different people post on different kinds of boards, and there are different sets of rules for each board. When different kinds of threads evolve (Photothread, Mediafire thread), they develop different sorts of rules and customs that could exclude people who don't board there often. Some people say that they don't post on the music board because people up there are "too mean" and some people don't post down here because it's become somewhat of an insular, cliqueish hugbox.

I do think the term "forum politics" is ridiculous, especially all those silly threads about people running for office. Jesus, people.

Forum culture is a definite real thing. I actually kind of want to become an internet anthropologist because it's such an interesting topic. The culture of the QC forums is vastly different from 4chan is different from SA and there's subcultures besides. And these cultures grow way quicker than the historical meatlife equivalent and transcend nationality, religion, and race.
