Key Lime Pie.

Amen to that.

So - Ruby Tuesday used to serve Key Lime lemonade. It was magical. It was liquid pie. It was the stuff dreams were made of.

And then they stopped serving it.

Then they stopped serving strawberry tall cake (also brilliant).

I don't go to Ruby Tuesday anymore.

If a date ends in cake, you didn't really get dessert.

I just tried fried ice cream for the first time, that was pretty fantastic.

But I love pecan pie. I'd sell a slice of my soul for a slice of pecan pie.

Lunchy mentioned the Cheesecake Shop. It should be noted that they also make a fantastic Black Forest cake.

I mentioned it first you fucker!

I made myself a new dessert the other day (chances are it's been made before this but I still like it). I toasted myself 6 mini waffles (much like stroopwaffles but i couldn't find that particular brand), put a layer of vanilla icecream between each layer and filled each little square with maple syrup. It was made of win.

I have previously made the same thing but I alternated filling each sqaure with maple syrup and Cadbury's Chocolate sauce (which basically tastes like melted chocolate if you haven't seen it). Damnit, now I want waffles.

They stopped serving almost everything that was good and replaced it with boring stuff. They used to have a great menu. Last time I went there was when they'd first done this. My mom and I looked at the menu after we'd ordered drinks, then apologized to our waiter for not wanting anything (which he said he completely understood), paid for our drinks and left the guy a nice tip anyways, and then went and ate somewhere else.

Ruby Tuesdays, you suck.

Icecream is frozen rock hard, covered in a batter of shredded coconut and then very quickly deep-fried. It's pretty good.

Peppermint ice cream, no contest, especially if it is transformed into what Hannah has ingeniously titled ice cream soup, which is just normal ice cream stirred until it reaches the consistency of soft-serve.

Failing that, creamy vanilla ice cream, souped, then with liberal amounts of  drinking chocolate powder mixed in - best chocolate ice cream on the planet.

I have also recently discovered that I am a huge fan of custard.

Indeed it is.

Hey, speaking of ingenious, deep-fried goodness: deep fried snickers bars. Holy Mount Vesuvius, these are fantabulous. They are classic fair food at our town's annual Popcorn Festival, though I don't think I've ever encountered them elsewhere.

That sounds almost as bad as a deep-fried Twinkie, which has always struck me as possibly the most nauseating dessert concept ever.

But evidently some people like them.

There are pages and pages online of instructions for how to make deep-fried mars bars... they look like shit and taste like a heart attack. I was disappointed:(

The best dessert ever though, is cherry pie. If you don't like cherry pie, this is because I have not made it for you and thus you've had shitty pie.

Let's all go over to redglasscurls' place and have make us some cherry pie.  Sounds like it would be worth the trip just to check it out.

Dang man, I can't make decent pie in a dorm kitchen. There are no dishes and no-one wrings out the sponge so it smells awful and your hands reek like spongemold after you use it.

Crème brûlée. The real stuff is quite expensive, but you can get decent enough imitations at Whole Foods.

Make it yourself!  Whisk half a cup of sugar into three egg yolks, add a pint of scalded cream with a teaspoon of vanilla, mix well, throw it in custard cups and bake in a water bath for 40 minutes at 325.  Chill overnight, then devour.  So easy, and SO GOOD!  (Of course to really do it right you have to caramelize the sugar on top, which requires a torch, but if you don't have one you can still make the custard and enjoy it.)  Anyway, creme brulee was going to be my answer too, although cheesecake and tiramisu are fantastic answers as well.
I'll try that, thanks. Now that I think about it, I believe my cousin has a little torch lying around somewhere...

you can pick up little blowtorches at most hardware stores, and even some art stores. They aren't expensive.

Instead of a blowtorch, you could also set them about an inch below your broiler in the oven and it'll caramelize the sugar that way, too!

In theory that works, Brittany, but in practice it gave me very burnt sugar.  If you try the broiler method watch VERY VERY closely in order to avoid overdoing it.  I much prefer my torch, now that I have one.  Plus, playing with the torch is fun!

Hmm. No one should listen to my cooking advice ever anyway, as I tried this and ended up starting a fire when the cream boiled over. That was after I posted that, though.

Plain New York cheesecake.

Maybe not the most exciting but I think it's lovely.

Leonidas: Sour cream on top or no? I've seen it both ways and I quite enjoy both ways.

That's what I thought... until I tried it. It was amazingly light, subtle and the perfect compliment to such a rich dessert

Banana pudding with meringue and vanilla wafers, homemade by my mom. Hands down the best thing ever. After that its all kinds of pie and cobblers. Key Lime being the best.

i made my flatmates fall in love with me by making mudcake .... were talking the kind where you have to slowly melt chocolate over the stove and slow cook the cake for like 2 hours, it is god damn tastegasmic tho

on another dessert note i am also a sucker for a baskin and robbins brownie sundae, those things are amazing

It's not really a dessert in my book but if you hold an Aero over a barbeque for a few seconds (take it out of the packet first, people) then it is absolutely gorgeous. Literally only a few seconds, five at the most, or you get a chocolatey barbeque and no Aero.

Had a chocolate croissant  once in France. Best thing is it didn't taste like it was crammed full of sugar.
I also had a fried Oreo which was surprisingly good.
