Yesterday, I saw a guy wearing QC merch.
« on: 09 Mar 2008, 06:35 »

So, I was in Broadway shopping centre (in Sydney) yesterday when I saw a guy wearing the bear face t-shirt thing.

Truth be told, it was the first bit of QC merch I've seen in real life, and I was awesomely surprised to see it.

I saw a Control Alt Delete t-shirt on a guy once, too. Also at Broadway.

I kinda threw up a lil' in my mouth.

I saw a guy wearing QC merch at a party, or at least he recognised my hobocore tshirt. I never saw him again.

My dream is that one day I will run into a complete stranger wearing the Diesel Sweeties "Rock is Dead" tshirt at the same time I am wearing it. We will see each other from a certain distance, walk past each other, wordlessly high-five, and go about our days.

I remember running into a guy wearing a piece of achewood merch at a party I was at once and we wound up starting a fire together which was a nice bonding moment.

about a year ago one of my housemates had a couple friends come visit us over here in rome.  one of them turned out to be dan haaga.  as in this dan haaga.  it turns out his older brother went to school with jeph and he told jeph to update indietits at a party (or something along those lines).

there are only a couple other people i know who read QC at all (one of which was the person who convinced me to join up with the forums 3 years ago).  i've never seen anybody wearing any qc merchandise but then again i don't even own any myself.

Weirdest QC merchspotting I ever had was when Cristi and I were wandering around Soho the night before MoCCA in NYC last year and a random dude walked by in a hobocore shirt.

people wear so much qc merch here i barely even bat an eye anymore. it is everybody's favourite comic. i don't think they even read any other comic. there have been at least 5 or 6 different occasions where the moment i even mention music i listen to or that i read webcomics the immediate response is "oh tania, you definitely need to read questionable content!" which of course isn't a bad thing at all. mostly i am wondering whether jeph had any idea his comic would end up appealing so perfectly to 18-25 year old hipster university students in southern ontario.

Well, if I ever meet you, I'll make sure to sport my "I'm a rock, I rock out" tee to feel all connected.

There's this one really nerdy dude at my school that I see wearing web comic tshirts all the time, and I met a chick wearing the indie tits shirt from a little while back through of friend on mine, also on campus.

EDIT: OH! And I just remembered my favourite barista/waiter at this cafe called Tequila Bookworm I frequent was wearing a "Bears Will Eat You" shirt. I wanted to talk to him about it but there was a line and I didn't want to be the jerk holding it up.

I was recently facebook "stalked" (I flatter myself by calling it that) by a girl I'd never spoken to after wearing my Evolution Kills t-shirt in a history lecture. She added me with this long message about how she saw I was wearing the t-shirt and how she loved QC. That was a fun time.

Oh, and I saw someone wearing an XKCD raptor t-shirt in the supermarket once.

Ran into somebody wearing a "these tits are more indie than you" shirt at Ohio Renfest 2003, that was fun.

I actually ordered an "Evolution Kills" shirt last week. International order though, so I'm not expecting it for a while.

a "Bears Will Eat You" shirt.
Where is that shirt from? I thought I had come up with that bit when I made the sign for kat; it is vaguely disappointing to realize that I was unconsciously lifting the idea from somewhere I'd seen it before.

ADDITION: I suddenly realized that I am 99% sure that shirt is from SGR. I'm a go check.

I occasionally wear my Coffee of Doom tshirt to college. I wore it to school on a non-uniform day once as a sort of in joke with a guy in my french class, since no one else knew what it was. Trouble is, I have to hand wash it because the colour runs (does anyone else have that problem?) and I hate handwashing, so it's only clean every month or so. This is not the way to treat a shirt, I know.

I'm doing a PhD in an electrical engineering department, the largest grade 5 research group in the UK. The university also has large departments in the mechanical eng and physics. People not wearing webcomic (especially, shock-horror, xkcd) sourced t-shirts are in the minority.

This is why I haven't bought any xkcd shirts, I'd just be part of the crowd.

I only have two merch shirts, the Cat and Girl "My record collection can beat up your record collection" and Married to the Sea's "Don't fornicate." While wearing the latter while visiting a friend's campus, my friend's friend had the MttS "Shakespeare got to get paid, son" shirt. Much fun was had. Other than that, that's it for webcomic merch. I know several people who read the same webcomics I do, but a they don't buy shirts. I would buy more if I wasn't poor.

I think it's possibly more likely that you'd see someone wearing QC merch in the US and Canada than anywhere else, although I could be totally wrong. I've never seen any here in the UK except my own, although my friend is shortly going to purchase a t shirt I think. Then again, I introduced her to it so it doesn't really count.

I have seen one QC shirt (Pintsize Flying V) at Uni, we motioned the girl over and said "Hey, cool shirt! We love QC! Are you on the forums?" which is the first thing I ever say if anyone says anything about QC, because they need to know how cool I am. (She wasn't on the forums.)
I wear a lot of webcomic merch but I have never had anyone comment on mine! My boyfriend, however, says that his Music+Science shirt gets "Hey, QC" comments all the time.

Only if we dye or hair black and wear Fall Out Boy t-shirts.

There actually was the one time when I was wore my Indietits tee to the supermarket. My teenage girl cashier spent the whole time she was scanning my groceries staring at the shirt, then at the end, looked up and said "I don't get it."
I sort of blushed and said in a holier-than-thou voice, "Oh, it's from the Internet." (Because this explains everything.)

Where I'm from, no one is cool enough to wear QC merch.  Except for a few, maybe.  But I have yet to see any, anywhere.

The only webcomic merch that I've seen so far, is my friend Shane's Patches t-shirt.  I don't even think he reads it, though.

I want myself an "Everything is ruined forever" shirt.

I've only ever seen a guy with the bearmonster hoodie at my university too. A few times, actually, but always the same guy, and I'm never wearing any of my QC shirts when I see him.

I've seen a couple of peoples at shows here wearing Dinosaur Comics tees, and the odd Diesel Sweeties shirt floating around. One girl at my U wears a VG Cats shirt.

The only webcomic tees of mine anyone has ever spotted and recognized was a Toothpaste for Dinner shirt and a Red Meat shirt, but Red Meat is syndicated in the local arts & entertainment weekly, and I don't know if it counts as a 'real' webomic. My QC and Wondermark shirts go unrecognized but people always ask where they're from. I've got the Perry Bible Fellowship 'Unicorn Power!' shirt coming in the mail soon, though... we'll see if anyone picks that out of the crowd.

I own a Stongbad shirt.. but that's about it. Every now and then somebody will recognize it.

It used to be white, until one day while I was tiedyeing another shirt and some spring festival thing, and it got some on my Strongbad shirt. So I just went ahead and dyed it too. Didn't turn out very well.

I wear my Evolution Kills around a bit, wore it on stage during my Revue. Got pretty grubby after 12 show nights.

I've never seen anyone wearing QC stuff in EC. I think I saw a guy at my school wearing an achewood shirt in a picture on facebook, but I'm not sure. I don't pay much attention though to what everyone around me is wearing, so I could've very easily missed seeing one.

I ran into a guy wearing a Math is Delicious shirt at an art fair about a year ago. Other than that I'm the only person I know who wears QC merch.

I get the most questions about the Coffee of Doom shirt and it usually goes something like this...

"What's Toffee of Doom?"
"That's a C."
"Oh"
Then I tell them about QC.

Funny how recognizing the problem doesn't really help one on the road to solving it.
