Mario Kart Wii!
« on: 28 Apr 2008, 01:07 »

I do not actually own this game yet nor have I played it but I am excited for it like you couldn't imagine. The Mario Kart series is basically my most favorite thing ever.

Who has it and is it awesome.

I'm still confused on how fast this game snuck up on me. Is Brawl that hypnotic?

I just lost three hours of my life to this game, Brawls glory has nothing on red shells and wheelies!

I'm not gonna lie, I had more fun with this than Brawl.  Subspace Emissary is just annoying.

The game is fun as heck and online is incredibly well done. The main thing that's bugging me about it right now is that it doesn't have missions, but for all I know that can be attained later in the game. If not, no big loss still.

I've been playing it in between bouts of GTA IV all day and I'm loving it. Of course I loved Double Dash and everyone else I've ever known seems to have hated it, but I honestly think 99% of the very small amount of complaints the game have gotten are people who seem to forget that this is a Mario Kart title.

Also, the Wheel is pretty sweet.

I dunno about the other Mario Karts, but Mario Kart 64 already had that feature. It's hardly a problem.

I'm pretty sure there was a blue shell in Double Dash, too...but I do think that they should have kept the number of racers in the Grand Prix down to 8.  It does get a little hectic.  I somehow ended up in 4th place on a 50cc race (vs. Computer).

Personally, I think the entire appeal of Mario Kart has always been the completely broken item system. It's always hilarious.

People need to accept the fact that this series is not for die hard racing fans who give it their all to win. It's a game made to get some people together and have a good time.

I totally agree with that, I'm just saying the single player would've been a bit better with less racers.  When 5 pow blocks, 2 blue shells and 3 lightning bolts are used on you in one race, it gets kind of frustrating.

I remember how rare the lightning bolt was in the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES. Those were like, a once in a lifetime item back then, and when you got one it was one of the most exciting things ever.

I don't like the POW thing.

Not at all. I've only gotten it once, and have been on the recieving end of it numerous times.

Man this game is the only reason I would get a Wii. I won't, but if I was seriously considering it, this would tip the scales.

I don't like the POW thing.

If you jump right when the POW would take affect, you avoid the stop it can cause. (still causes a minor spin and loss of items)

Um, can't you just...hit the jump button? I haven't played this one or Double Dash yet, but jumping was a rather routine thing in the first three Mario Karts.

You can jump using Manual steering, but that's retardedly hard (manual steering, not the jumping).

Automatic you can't jump. (I don't think anyway).

Noob

Hmm, I seem to recall being able to jump in automatic, but I never play with Auto much, and I'm not able to check right now.

The jumping in manual is easy, it's the timing, since it's essentially just a small hop.

I only use the wii wheel and you can still jump when under a pow, if you time it right when would take affect, you just pull the wheel up fast. (a blue circle starts surrounding you and you're hardly stopped) I haven't used the nunchuk to drive, but apparently it's impossible to jump with it.

Why would you jump with the nunchuk? The trigger on the wiimote is the Brake/Hop for the Wiimote/nunchuk setup.

I don't know you, but I have enormous amounts of respect for you. The wheel is impossible.

just to prove it

But yeah, with the nunchuck you just press a button in manual to jump. I think the whole 'active' gaming thing with the wii is an illusion. There are only a few games where you have to actually move around excessively.

Of course it's a lot more fun if you're jumping around while playing.

Heh. I don't find it that difficult to traverse with and I get a little bored playing with a standard controller (or nunchuk) when I'm playing solo, so I just got used to it. The only major problem i've experienced is twice during races I would turn the wheel slightly and the character would literally make a 90 degree turn the opposite direction; that really got me pissed. As I said though this has only happened twice in something like 3 or 4 hours of gameplay.

Where as any Smash Bros. title can be described as "blunt force trauma," I can only describe this game as "chaos on wheels."  That being said I did quite enjoy it.  I only played it once briefly, but I do plan on getting it and playing it some more.

I now own this game! I love the bikes and mid-air tricks with Donkey Kong and uh I haven't played enough yet to find something to complain about. More on that later.
