I went to band practice last night. We practiced for like 3 hours. I didn't realize we even had enough crap on our setlist to play for a half hour!

I am currently contemplating why every song called "Mexico" is automatically an awesome song, regardless of the artist. I've wondered why this is for about a year now, and nothing has come to mind.

Today I was exposed to lots of radiation as I got a bunch of x-rays of my teeth done because I guess I have to get stupid braces soon. There was this booth that looked like a teleport booth or a time machine or something! but later I found out that it was used to develop the x-rays. Also, the lead vest thingy I had to put on had corduroy on the underside and it felt like a nice blanket.

Also, I tried recording two songs today but failed because I live with people and I get all self-conscious about yell-singing (or just regular projected singing). :[

Edit: Okay now I have listened to Metric's first album for the first time in about two years and now I have the biggest crush on Emily Haines ever

Fuck yeah, even with my legendary procrastination, I still have managed to not only get al of the classes I needed, but I compressed them into a mere three days! Sure, I'll be in school for twelve straight hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but its worth it.

My schedule this semester is like this. I'm busy TWTh from 12-7, but I get 4-day weekends every week. There are ups and downs, obviously, but I like it. Hopefully my schedule will be similar next semester!

I have never managed to get a schedule with days completely off, but this quarter I'm never in class for more than 3 hours a day. So I guess it's not all bad.

career specific

even though anectodes are maybe the worst source of evidence for anything, ever, i cannot count the amount of times i have walked into a retail store or restaurant and the second someone working there somehow finds out what i'm taking in school it's all "oh man, psychology! yeah, i have a degree in that" except they're making $8 an hour at old navy and man these stupid ridiculously difficult courses still really depress the hell out of me.

Well I guess there is a difference between having a degree in something and being really really good at it. That's why I'm really worried about this year. It is my second and last chance to get into proper Psychology post-graduate courses. If I fuck this year up by getting anything lower than 65% in ANYTHING than I'm going to have to figure out a second option of what to do with my life. Maybe something with animals...

Dear blog thread, why does no one else think James Taylor is as cool as I do?

James Taylor was the lead singer of Kool and the Gang, responsible for such timeless hits as "Too Hot" and "Ladies' Night".  He's pretty cool.

Happy birthday! The fact that you have to be 21 to buy alcohol over there still baffles me, but ah well - must feel nice to finally be able to do so.

Today I woke up, felt like absolute crap and skipped out on school stuff. Then I ate raspberries, and sat by the computer all day, not doing anything productive at all!

This is the James Taylor he was talking about. But sorry, D_D, James Taylor annoys the hell out of me, so I can't think of him as "cool".

Also, today, I joined a pact with two of my friends stating that we will work out at least twice a week and become bombshells in order to make lesbians jealous. Two of us (including myself) are straight, so I don't get why it's only lesbians that will be jealous, but damn it, I will work out anyways!

I'm a psych major!  Oh, and Bob Rescorla (of the Rescorla-Wagner learning model) was my undergrad adviser for a while.  Pretty cool guy actually.

See, I don't intend to do anything with my major until I'm 30.  The first half of my 20s are for doing whatever the fuck I want, the second half are for putting letters after my name so that people will listen to me when I talk about drugs, and maybe after 5 or 10 years doing research or teaching or something, post-graduate school, I can start on my life's work (which is hopefully going to be talking about, researching, and maybe lobbying for drugs).

Today I woke up, wrapped myself in a blanket, and sat down in front of a computer!  I intend to do many other things today but that was first on my list.  I think that perhaps this is not a good thing, but I will allow myself this indulgence because Wednesday is the day when I don't have any class.

My schedule this semester is like this. I'm busy TWTh from 12-7, but I get 4-day weekends every week. There are ups and downs, obviously, but I like it. Hopefully my schedule will be similar next semester!

Well, I mean, It's basically TuTh for me, I only have one Monday class from 5-7 for my history of film, and its a component of the normal lecture that is on TuTh. Which means its a movie night thing. So really I've got two days a week that I go to school and a mandatory weekly movie in the EMF department's lecture hall/screening room.

I'm thinking at this point anything will be better thatn the schedule I have right now. Monday Tuesday and Wednesday I have class from 1pm-10, which means I wake up late but I get home late, and I've got three 3 hour classes in that for the night class part. And then I have one class on Thursdays, and let's just say its annoying as hell to get as much time in the library as I do, with all the fucking gaps I scheduled in without truly knowing the consequences.

And, it's not really worth it when you're underage, either. The penalties for getting caught far outweigh the fun you have while you're drinking. The age limit is kind of dumb, but it's not really something worth getting all upset about. I'm glad you've realized that. That makes you cool.

Dear blog thread, I stayed up all night, for no real reason, and now I feel terrible, but I need to get my sleep schedule back on track so I'm staying up at least until Top Chef is over. That just gives me a little under five hours.

From what I can tell, though, you have to be pretty damn stupid to get caught, I have one friend that did get caught, he was drinking on a school lunch break when they were just barely off-campus and a teacher pulled up next to their car.

Of course, depending on the state, you can drink with parental permission, and all of them have a religious exception to the age, since it is rather unlikely that an eight-year-old is going to get drunk off his ass on sacramental wine.

Isn't lizard breath the standard nickname for people named elizabeth?

For sure you have to be pretty stupid, but if there's one thing that alcohol is good at doing, it's making people stupid. My brother and sister are both still in high school (underage) and they are constantly telling me stories about classmates that were caught throwing a party or whatever. Also, here, there is a social host rule where if there are underage drinkers the owners of the house, whether they are present or not, are also charged. It's a controversial issue, to be sure, but I kind of like it. It keeps those pesky kids out of trouble.

I suppose that is part of the big picture I don't see, neither I nor any of my friends go to parties like that, so I don't hear about that. That is a good point, though, drunk kids turning up the music too loud and puking in the petunias draw attention much more than one or two tipsy people.

This evening I started reading Doctor Faustus.

Today I was cleaning my little brothers bookcase with my sister. I found an old copy of Don Quixote that, compared to the majority of the books there, is still in a very good condition. After their bookcase I moved onto mine. I got rid of the Dan Brown books from 4 years ago.
I had a good look at the encyclopaedia and copy of Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body  I got from late grandfather.
We finally went through the remaining unpacked suitcases from our holiday to the US in January and I found the bulky book a bought at one of those huge discount stores.

I SEE WHAT YOU MEAN, GUYS. EXCEPT WHEN I READ IT, I IMAGINE YOU HAVE ALL RAISED YOUR VOICES AND I'M LIKE, GUYS, IT'S OKAY TO TYPE like this.

Today, I have been freezing by butt off in this stupid building instead of going outside to enjoy the sunshine. I can't go outside now until after 5. :( And yesterday I took a lot of pictures and bought my cap and tassel. I am still disappointed that my department's tassel color is brown. (BROWN for the ARTISTIC PEOPLE. Wtf, college.)

Also, yesterday while driving home, some guy yelled in my car window as we passed him, because he was standing in the street about 10ft away from a crosswalk. I told him to use said crosswalk as we kept driving. (This was during rush hour on a busy street, mind you.) Then, in a strip mall parking lot, I was walking across the "street" from my car to the pet store and some lady that had previously been about 15-20 ft. away from where I was crossing sped up so she could stop inches away from me and honk while making rude gestures. As I had a pulled muscle in my leg and had the right of way anyways, I stopped, gave her epic scowl-age, called her a bitch, and slowly finished walking to the sidewalk. I am tempted to find these two people and write them a pamphlet on How Not the Be Stupid.

Least it wasn't Robbie the Jobbie.

My friends in elementary school had a whole song.

His name is Robbie
He works at Hobby Lobby
He likes to eat salami
His friend's name is Bobby
He probably likes his mommy

...it went on. Not a real clever song, but in elementary school it was embarassing as hell when they would sing it. Haunts me to this day.

Also, when your last name is Leftwich, there are about a billion really dumb things kids will call you. All kinds of derivations of witch or left/right jokes. Also, lots of sandwich jokes. Awesome.

Aw, that sucks. I know I would be -pissed- if I lost my Ipod. Mind you, it wouldn't really be more then an inconvience and loss of money if I lost it... I don't actually have too much music on it, and I really only use it in my car.

Anyway, today I used my prize money, from the writing competition I won, to buy books of a questionable nature. They are pretty awesome, and I think they will come in handy as reference material. --Oh, and I bought the newest issue of Cosmo. I'm sure that will come in handy one day when I get over my fear of boys, commitment, and life in general.

I yelled at DirecTV for being a douche about my UFC events. Long story.  To even summarize would be tl;dr.

In other news, GSP is gonna win.

Does my enjoyment of UFC clas with A)My having ladyparts and B) Enjoying stuff like QC? Eh? Bleh.

I'm bored and lonely at work. The other day some drunk guy hit on me. It was kinda flattering. If you think 'I drank so much, if you came to my room right now and kissed me, you'd get so drunk too...thanks for talking to me...you're amazing....' flattering, anyway.

I kinda wish some guy would hit on me again. It's exciting.  I think when I'm ready to quit my job, I might just take up some guy on their offer and go back to their room with them ( I work at a hotel) and if I get fired for it, so be it.

That would be a hell of a way to go.

I wouldn't mind admitting I got fired for that.

Right?

Yeah.

And no one is on MSN to keep me company at work and I have 6 hours left in my shift.

Damn it.
