Hey wow, a blog thread.
« on: 10 Apr 2008, 10:46 »

This is what went down in mine, in a nice 4 minute YouTube Video: Westboro Church Protests At Stout, Students React, and here's a longer video, for those interested

What is kind of awesome is that there were like 300 some students there and 6(!!) Westboro protesters, allegedly (I avoided this, but it was hard to ignore seeing as how this was all taking place outside of my building). Obviously, Stout doesn't take shit from no one.

I wasn't pleased to hear "GO HOME GO HOME" shouted from outside of my window this morning at 7:45 though... But it was worth it to see a guy running past me in a "Love Everyone, RIP Scott A. Ham" sandwichboard tell me and my roomie "It's too cold to protest!".

...So, anything exciting happening elsewhere in the world?

i was playing in a warm field with the most beautiful girl i've ever seen. there wasn't a cloud in the sky; everything was completely perfect.

then i woke up, walked through the rain and mud to my car, and drove to work.

We had a 'Wellness Presentation' at work, about eating healthy.  We also ordered in pizza which we all ate during the presentation.  It was basically a scene from The Office.

My collie dog, Lucy, broke a leg.  The surgeon who repaired it says it was very complicated, as the bone was not just simply broken, but shattered into eight pieces; but he is cautiously optimistic for a satisfactory recovery, though only after a prolonged period of care.

I managed to get a grade from last semester upgraded to a B, thanks to prof. Culp being cool and letting me re-do an essay. Then I screwed around on the PASDA website finding aerial imagery and various shapefiles for an upcoming GIS project. Then it was off to Honors Russian Lit to discuss the existentiality of Pierre and Tolstoy's view on  historians and the philosophy of history. Then I had to meet with the modern languages secretary to get paperwork pushed through for next weekend, when I'm taking the Russian Club to Brighton Beach NYC, so it was a busy day, but a lot got accomplished. Now its off to the clinic to work, which means 8 hours of being bored.

No, still four legs.  They've fixed the ends of the bone with a pin and a plate, but haven't been able to put the fragments properly back in place.  They hope that they will merge together after a while, though.

I slept until noon, laid in bed listening to talk radio for an hour, now I'm sitting in a towel on the internet before I have to run a thing up to work before I do nothing the rest of the day.

What's a good job to get if you don't have a degree?  :?

I nursed a hangover after turning 21 yesterday. Then I went to the phone shop to replace the dud charger they gave me with my new phone, went to the market to get some tomatoes and cous cous for lunch and then sat in an hour and a quarter lesson of Philosophy in which I did nothing productive whatsover.

So not a lot, really.

Retail.

...Seriously though, I have no idea. Data entry of some kind, maybe? My sister does insurance claims adjustments and she doesn't have a degree of any kind. It depends on what kind of field you want to work in. There are lots of people here on the forums who don't have degrees but excellent jobs. You should ask some of them...I remember a chat about it earlier in the year. Someone with mad-search skills will bring it up, I'm sure.

I applied at a library (among other places), but haven't heard back yet. It doesn't really require a degree to stack books does it?

I never said it was EASY to get retail jobs.

Robbie: No, you don't need a degree to stack books, haha. But that is usually a more volunteer capacity (at least at my local libraries). The only thing you really need a degree for, I think, is to be a director or someone who is going to be "doing the books" so to speak --budgeting, buying, salaries...you know, managerial librarianism. --My Aunt is going through all of that right now, you'd think I would be more informed? Alas, I am not.

i had a job interview today and it went pretty well. my fancy shoes always cut up my feet and make them bleed everywhere cos my feet are kind of funny shaped. i probably should get new shoes. my housemates think if i don't get this job i should take photos of my bloody feet and send them to the guy who conducted my interview. kind of like "you should have told me you were probably not going to hire me BEFORE you made me put on this stupid shoes and walk around in them, buddy."

i don't think it will work so mostly i am hoping they hire me the normal way.

i'm also real excited about doing laundry tonight. i don't think that's weird. clean clothes are awesome.

I probably would've driven over to the protest if I hadn't had class this morning. WBC are some seriously fucked up people. In other news, I stayed up all night writing a paper, finished it this morning, and took a test. Then I walked home in freezing rain (while wearing sandals.... cold). Now I'm going to take a shower to warm up.

I almost want them to do a protest in Fargo so I can make a sign that says "God Hates Bigots" and stand calmly near them.

I totally agree.  If they ever protest anything here (which I doubt because I bet the mere thought of Las Vegas makes them clutch their holy crosses tighter), I will be stealing your idea.

I might put a quote box around it, too, just so people know it's not an original idea on my part.

Spring blogging is like spring cleaning, it has to be done to get all the shit out of your system for a productive summer of doing nothing but looking at webforums.

Good fucking Riddance to those WBC people, there was a protest by them at my high school a few years ago, but it didn't get nearly as much counter-protest, for one this was before they started attacking funerals and the other is because I'm sure there were a couple of dumbasses in Lubbock who silently agreed with them.

Am I the only one sad that the police were at that protest? Not that I am advocating any violence against them, nor would I be willing to hide any bodies or provide any alibis, since even the thought of doing or aiding violence is absolutely abhorrent to me.

I slept through both of my classes, since I stayed up until 7AM working on a paper for one of them.

Seriously. Talk about infringements to civil rights, not to mention the level of mediocre software the government is probably willing to put up with. I predict we'll be left with a buggy filter full of holes that is highly abusable and will block websites of unrelated content.

Perhaps instead of making the censorship national, they should have it as a service that can be requested rather than allow it to be a blight on the rest of us. If underage kids want to get porn, they'll just end up stealing mags instead of looking at website. You know, how it used to be before the internet.

Goddamn.

And there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, huh?

I don't particularly like America, so don't take this as a jingoistic statement, but I am glad that I live in America most of the time. It just seems better than most alternatives. Way I hear it, in the UK you are getting cameras on just about every damn block, and now in Australia, they are censoring the internet?

Actually... that is just two alternatives, I suppose, but it seemed like most when I started writing this. If the draft ever got reinstated, I would probably pick one of the Scandinavian nations to run to if I couldn't get conscientious objector status.
