BIO FREAKS

pretty much just a really awesome, gory fighting game that had a very strange sense of humor and employed some interesting game play that i don't think has been seen since in a fighting game. for instance: the ability to literally blow the limbs off your opponent. it wasn't easy to do but if you could hit them just right without killing them you could, if you were lucky, take off one or both their arms. i think you could even take off heads but it probably resulted in death.

I know of dragon view, I tried playing it once, but the copy didn't work. I heard it was good.

I loved that game about 8 years ago, I played it constantly, mostly the sims though, I kept getting stuck on the missions (couldn't get past the first one because I kept picking up the wrong crate for shipping). I was a real star wars nerd around then.

Legend of Faerghail.

It is an RPG from 1990 that was along the same lines as the original Bard's Tale I and II, except a bit more complex and a bit better graphically.  Among the cool things were a rank-based fighting engine (ie: melee up front, ranged and magic up the back) and people could change where they were situated in mid-battle, battle animations (which were good for their time) and the ability to let the party simulate an attack round (which was especially helpful vs low-level enemies, as they'd just kill the fuck out of them).  There was also a rather large and wide array of spells in comparison to most games around at that time, as they kind of ripped off DnD a little, if I remember rightly.

Another especially interesting thing was that there were a number of different languages to learn.  If a character in your party knew enough of a monster's language they could talk to it and sometimes convince it to leave you alone.  This was especially true for wild animals, as they didn't really want to attack you, they just wanted you to go away.

For a good review of the game, check this page out: http://amigareviews.classicgaming.gamespy.com/legendfa.htm

Mmm cyberpunk.

FUCK YES.

I used to play the original of this on the Amiga.  It was fucking badass.  This game could really do with a re-make.  It would be completely fucking awesome.  Apparently Molyneux would like to do a remake, but considers it unlikely due to licensing issues :(

Yes, anything by Treasure.

I think I'm a bit in the minority because I prefer Headdy to Gunstar Heroes.

Also, Light Crusader was doing the Symphony of the Night-style gameplay even before SOTN (only in 3D, so it has its moments of frustration due to the isometric viewpoint). It's amusing considering their crowning achievement while still a part of Konami was Super Castlevania IV.

Man... I heard that tie fighter was pretty much the best star wars game ever, but by the time I had heard of it and connected it with X-wing Alliance, it was old, I doubt I could find any of them anymore.

All these great games, and I know there is no way in hell I am going to ever play all the games I should play.

I've always considered the lack of new X-Wing/Tie Fighter games rather inexplicable. Too bad the pc market isn't what it used to be, because it'd be awesome to dust off a joystick and blow up imperials/rebels the ol' fashioned way again rather than just fumbling through another railshooter. Not that there's anything wrong with railshooters, mind you-- I enjoyed Star Fox as much as the next guy-- but I'd kill for another X-Wing game, since it split the difference between arcade style and simulationist offerings so well.

Yeah, it was pretty beast, and this is from a guy that pretty much refuses to play RTS's.
The original KKND was also good.

Also, the originaly Duke Nukem sidecrollers were awesome when I was seven.

When I read this post I went off to look for someone to quote about the rumblings I thought I'd heard about the wii getting a new rogue squadron game. Turns out that Factor Five have pretty much said they're not doing anything for the wii, so no, there won't be a rogue squadron game for wii.

That sucks.

I actually liked the original Syndicate. It had massive corporations fighting it out worldwide.
Syndicate Wars was a global syndicate that couldn't work with itself vs a church group that didn't start with the resources to commit.

Rogue, ADOM & more recently Incursion are games I'd like to put up. But maybe they're not really that cool.

Does anyone else remember this incredible auto-vigilante simulator from Activision in 1997? It was the most stylish game you have ever played. You drove awesome American muscle cars and customised them to crush assorted road-dwelling baddies. It was stylised to look like a 70s road movie. You played Groove Champion, out to avenge your sister's murder with her old companion Taurus. It was fucking amazing! There were two sequels that weren't nearly as good. I wish someone would make an updated version of this incredible game!

Actually that reminds me of this game

It was basically a straightforward beat 'em up game (ala Mortal Kombat or Streetfighter) with reasonable graphics for the 16 bit console era, much like

but in this game the characters were dinosaurs (there was a Deionychus, Tyrannosaur, Allosaurus, Triceratops and some weird creature that looked like a Dilophasaurus with the neck of a Brachiosaur) and a giant ape/baboon monster. It was pretty fucking cool.
