I don't know if anyone really remembers this game, no one I know ever knows what I'm talking about it, when I discuss it. It's not particularly old, ten  years. It's pretty ancient in video game time, I guess.

It was my favorite game for a very long time, that and Jet Set Radio, but I'm pretty sure everyone loved that game.

Tinkering with Sim Tower was strangely addictive.

I remember the sequel fondly.

Not the most creative story though. =P

That's right, it was pretty much "Two sides went to war over loading everyone's brains into computers, but they've been fighting for so long that it hardly matters."

god I lost so many hours of my life to Sim Tower. It took me forever to figure out the trick was to build wide, not tall at first.

I'll give someone a cookie if they can find me a copy of Theme Park for the PC. a game that was released in '95, made by bullfrog studios. note, not Sim Theme Park, just Theme Park. I can't even find screenshots of it.

Edit: actually by a stroke of luck I found the wikipedia article on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theme_Park_(computer_game) and oh shit they made a DS version! wooooo.

My first online game I ever played was this cute little game called HoverRace, released in '96 it actually NEEDED Win95 to play, which was odd since way more visually advanced games just ran in DOS anyway.  But all told, it was a fun game and I still use my registration number for a 4 digit password for anywhere that accepts them.

Hey since this thread's been bumped I've got to ask.
Earlier I posted D and Jetpack. Does anybody remember these games? They were sooooo good. Get them, get them now. (jetpack's freeware now.)

I remember D and I remember it being really freaky at times, but when it came down to it, it was just alright. It was one of my first playstation games though, so I played it all the time.

I first played The Longest Journey when I was 12. I didn't know what the fuck was going on then, and now I'm still not entirely sure, but I DO know I like it a lot.

The sequel was pretty good, but I didn't like it as much as the first.

Man, don't bring up The Longest Journey, it just reminds me that the PC adventure game genre is completely dead except for homebrews (which are often great, don't get me wrong, *cough*Yahtzee*cough*, but they also tend to be insanely short, unlike Thee Games of Yore like your basic TLJ.

TLJ was great. Dreamfall was good, too, but too short, and I'm not entirely sure they want to make a third one. It also lacked some of the atmosphere I liked about TLJ.

Anyone remember the Tex Murphy games? I loved those, ever since Mean Streets.

They're making the third episodic, supposedly.  There hasn't been a whole lot of news outside of that, though.

I enjoyed Gabriel Knight 2 more than TLJ.

It might just be the absurd Tim Curry voice acting though.

But I also thought it had better puzzles.

I didn't play TLJ for the puzzles.  Lateral thinking puzzles aren't as interesting as adventure game designers think they are.  I played it for the story, which is definitely up there in terms of best game stories ever told.

I enjoyed all of the Gabriel Knight's better than most games period. It just seems like it's a bit unfair to compare it to the GK franchise.

I tried playing TLJ but was bored sick by the site controls and the lack of being fun.  I never did get into the Gabriel Knight games, but I remember seeing them ALOT when I was younger.

Maniac Mansion is such a fucking awesome game dude! I could never beat it, all of the characters would either die or get trapped in the dungeon and game over. Pretty good graphics for its time though.

Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, and Maniac Mansion.  Ah yes, the Holy Trinity of games that I find bizarre in their overrated-ness.

All were good games, but... Earthbound had a silly story and regular old gameplay, Chrono Trigger was great fun but not even nearly as good to me as FF4 or Secret of Mana, and Maniac Mansion is horribly clunky and dull compared to pretty much every other point and click adventure game from the same time period.

Back on topic:

Legend games were awesome in general, but this one was aces.  It's easy to find it on abandonware sites and should run fine in XP.

sweet, I gotta look that up. And really, I was pretty young(I'm 20 now) back when Maniac mansion was new and me and my siblings didn't really have a whole lot of games, this was before I actually became a "gamer". I'll look up Eric the unready, but give me some other suggestions. I honestly didn't think anyone remembered Maniac Mansion at all and since most of my peers definitely do not I was just pleasantly surprised to know I'm not the only person whose ever played it. Now I'm going to download and beat it.

If you like Maniac Mansion, dig up the Space Quest games, possibly Police and King's Quest (though I never cared for either of those).

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I loved Elite on the Atari, and was delighted to find out there's an open source version, Oolite, with a community attached.

But I guess Elite was pretty popular at the time, so people probably do remember it.

because i'm a fan boy...

i loved this game: it was command and conquer meets star trek. what i loved about it was it was so easy to mod. you could change out the ship names, change ship sizes swap-out weapons... it was one of the few star trek games out there that didn't suck.

or at least i didn't think it sucked... but that was just me, i guess.

(I had the N64 version)
You know doom? well take the marine part out and replace it with medieval warriors you then have Hexen. Awesome game, but the story was non existent.

Game play!

I still have the game and a N64 to play it on.

These games were SICK!! For the PC, but i spent many hours of my life playing them both. i was pretty good at them.
As a little nerdling, Star Wars RULED my life. i even went so far as to have a recurring dream, that i had a purple lightsaber
and i married Luke Skywalker. Jebus, i cannot believe i just admitted that...

But while i am on the subject of PC games that i totally spent too many hours of life on, that make me really lame:

It was AWESOME. You drove around, bashing other cars, or killing people. Basically that is all you did. And i thought it was so much fun.
Yet, somehow, i grew up pretty well adjusted....

Ironically, Lord British would end up being so batshit insane that even "Chuckles" would be at best a mildly appropriate name for him.

Actually, the very act of clinging to a name as retarded as "Lord British" (spoiler alert: HE'S NOT EVEN BRITISH!) is probably grounds for clinical insanity.

As are the design choices in many of the Ultima games.
