All I remember about Killer Instinct was the primitive, extremely low-quality voice sounds they used. The guy was yelling very intensely, but it sounded like those old TV shows in which someone is talking on the phone and you can hear the person on the other line but the speech is garbled. So when you start a fight, it will announce the fighters and come out as "WAMBERWAR VERWIW WOMMAWA! FIEE!"

Kinda reminds me of this game:

A game where people transform into animals and beat the shit out of each other. SURELY THAT'S AN ORIGINAL IDEA, RIGHT GUYS? HAS ANYONE TRIED THAT YET?
The memories are fond.

In Primal Rage, one of the special attacks was farting. And beltching. And you could play vollyball with cavemen.

Fun fact: The arcade game originally had an acidic golden shower fatality which was subsequently pulled from the home release versions for being an acidic golden shower fatality.

I only played the original Bloody Roar, not its sequels. I have to admit, it was a pretty original idea.

BIO FREAKS

In the eighth grade I wrote a comic about this. I never drew it but I wrote it. It's lost to the mists of time now but I cast the guy on the cover as a sympathetic character, if memory serves. A tragic, noble hero. He was in love with one of the other Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. who then had her back snapped towards the end by the lead villain. She died in his arm/gun but he went on to lead the F.R.E.A.K.S. to their ultimate goal of liberation from their fighting slavery and equal rights to live among humankind, all in her memory. It's actually kind of remarkable that I wrote it all and only played the game twice.

Anyways, I don't think anyone's thought of either of these games in years, but I could be wrong.

Vectorman

They tried reviving it, but people didn't like the look of it and felt it was too derivative of Metroid Prime and Halo.
Still, I'm mostly with you.

Wait, what? Vectorman was a platformer. Was there a sequel planned?

Also, KI was awesome, just for the cheese factor. Infinite corner juggle with Saberwulf FTW.

There was an old NES game I don't quite remember the name of. Metal Storm maybe? You played as a robot that could switch gravity and walk on ceilings and whatnot. It was a fun game, but it got ridiculously hard on the later levels.

Also, the best racing game ever made.

Does anyone else remember this incredible auto-vigilante simulator from Activision in 1997? It was the most stylish game you have ever played. You drove awesome American muscle cars and customised them to crush assorted road-dwelling baddies. It was stylised to look like a 70s road movie. You played Groove Champion, out to avenge your sister's murder with her old companion Taurus. It was fucking amazing! There were two sequels that weren't nearly as good. I wish someone would make an updated version of this incredible game!

I fucking loved that game, damn it was good.

I have vague memories of primal rage. Those memories are telling me it was fucking brilliant.
I have similar memories.

I remember being a little 6 year old when it first came out and having to fight with my sibs on who got to play it next.
I was always the velociraptor.
ALWAYS.

That was a lot of fun. Though not nearly as awesome as Syndicate. I loved that game (and can still remember the music and voices. Weird.)

I actually liked the original Syndicate. It had massive corporations fighting it out worldwide.
Syndicate Wars was a global syndicate that couldn't work with itself vs a church group that didn't start with the resources to commit.

Ha. True, but they did give you some fantastic gear.

Flood. (picture refused by bad internet.)

It's absurd how much I played that.

So you know, they made a sequel which is fairly awesome.  I know of no legal way to get it though, but were you of a mind to break the law via emulators, it would be available.  Some place.  I haven't searched in ... years...  Wow.  I wonder if I still have it?

The old computer games Traffic Department 2192, Loom, and the Incredible Machine are all pretty cool and enjoyable.

Whoever posted Rock'n'Roll Racing is so very correct, that game is SPECTACULAR.

True, and...

Everyone should do so immediately.

Definitely true.

The first page rang (sadly) almost no bells, except obviously for Mario 3, but the second page... oh boy! All those memories of playing Road Rash, Blades of Steel, The Lost Vikings, Theme Hospital, BASS... sweet.

Anyone here from the C64-era? :P

Alien Legacy by Sierra.

It combined a compelling storyline with Sim / Civ style play - lots of exploration and resource management and was downright difficult, but not in that "throw it down a few flights of stairs in frustration" way.

Never beat it, and have several times tried to get it to work in emulators and Virtual Machine with no luck.

In fact, would pay if someone could instruct me on how I could get it to run on my rig.

Septerra Core
sure 99 wasnt that long ago (fucking 10 years nevermind long enough) but this was an awesome pc rpg and i actually just downloaded an iso again to play through it, lots of fun to be had here, and maybe aside from dialogue is quite original.

Heh I remember that game, it seemed too short to me if I remeber correctly. Though the cover art reminded me of a game I really liked that I could want a sequel too,

Suppose its not old enough yet though.
Believe it or not, I still have Oni on my notebook (lol), beats the hell out of freecell.

A couple of my favorites were in the Quest For Glory series

Fantasy Zone.

A nifty, psychedelic little shooter that was released on the Sega Master System. Back when I was a kid, this game was my favourite game of all time, but it was only after I found my Master System gathering dust back in 2000 that I sat down and finished the game.

I may be biased, but the Master System had some really incredible games.

Also, there is a new game coming out from the same director that has Vyse and Aika as playable characters. Not quite a spiritual sequel in the sense of say, Bioshock, but the closest we'll get to SoA2 for a while.
