Edinborough doesn't have a standard spelling because it's a proper name for one...

and for two...i know Edinburgh is spelled that way for Edinburgh, Scotland...however, my comic is not referring to Edinburgh, Scotland...it's fictional

also, there is an Edinborough Park, MN...and yes, it's spelled Edinborough

so if you are going to be that person...you should probably come up with something better.

Hay guys, I have a good idea - let's spam peoples forums with our comics without even bothering to look at the stickies!

That should be fun!

If you're going to re-use the same badly-drawn image every time, you need to make the dialogue good, funny, or interesting.

first of all, there are lots of webcomics that are "poorly" drawn and are still great comics...there is no reason for art-snobbery.

secondly, the site design is simple and looks a LOT better than most EVERY webcomic site that i've seen...it's easy to use and not cluttered with a ton of shit. (i.e. questionable content)...

thirdly, who are you that you care this much about such nit-picky ass shit...you have some serious issues and should probably get a life.

p.s. if i was not supposed to create a new thread for my comic, i truly apologize...i thought i saw other threads started for plugging webcomics.  My apologies.

The difference is that they provide at least moderately entertaining value in the script. Yours does not.

What, you mean "making a pop culture reference and then explaining it and then somehow that's supposed to be the punchline" isn't a comic device?

the thread was "cyanide and happiness"

pop culture references and explaining them comically as a way of analyzing them is called social commentary.

and clearly none of you have ever read dinosaur comics.

C&H wasn't a thread started by some guy who signed up for the sole intention of trying to leech readers and who didn't even bother to read the stickies. It was a discussion about one of the biggest webcomics around, created by somebody who wanted to find members with a mutual appreciation of the comic.

Also,

Come on, there are only like three of those---but art is not the comic's point, so no problem. You have to work on the writing, though! Specifically: 1. Pop culture references by themselves don't work as jokes. 2. No explaining your punchlines! If your punchline needs to be explained, rewrite it.

pop culture references and explaining them comically as a way of analyzing them is called social commentary.
Yes that can work very well, but so far you have not done it.

and clearly none of you have ever read dinosaur comics.

ok, so like i said...i thought that's what the thread was about...and i apologize for the mistake

and the point is that it is in the style of dinosaur comics...i realize it's not as good yet.

also, the "jesus is my homeboy" t-shirt comic is social commentary.

and if you don't think it's funny, that's fine.  humor is relative....but why come on here and comment with such hateful remarks?  it's unnecessary.

*and also, if you were smart and didn't like my comic, you would not have commented at all...considering it puts my thread at the top of the forum everytime for more people to view.

Humor is relative, yes, but also dependent on knowing how to write it.  I would recommend seeking out a comedy-writing book or two, because your jokes are so poorly-constructed as to not even be jokes.

Also, you seem to have made this thread with the attitude that your material is so great that we should be fawning it over it and hailing you as the next Ryan North and telling you that you shit pearls.  This is a terrible attitude for any artist or writer to have, especially a beginning one.

Was this edinborough guy banned or something? Because there is another person who posted the comic in the comic plugging thread, and it was their first post.

Also, dude, they are giving you constructive criticism (albeit not in the most polite way) to try and help you make your comic something other than one of the masses of shitty webcomics available. If you post a link to your work on a (webcomic's) forum, be prepared for people to say something about it. Don't expect people to say "oh wow, it's great!" just because you show it off. All you're doing by reacting the way you are doing is coming off as an areshole, saying "well I'm the one who made the comic, so your opinions are all worthless" isn't going to make us treat you any better. Maybe take some of the advice, like tomselleck's stuff about your writing (he's part of a really good webcomic, so it's not like he's talking out of his arse here) and who knows what will come about!

Also guys, don't be dicks. The thread was pretty pointless, sure, but you didn't have to be so hostile and rude. Telling him (her?) to go away straight away without anything constructive is a dick move. How would you like it if people did the same to you?

eris...i appreciate what you've said, and i am taking the criticism.  i realize the comic isn't very good compared to others, and i do think some things said have been good criticisms.  this is my 1st comic.  and i am not taking it too seriously, it's a fun thing to do.  but most of what has been said is not criticism it's just hateful...it's in the style of it's awful but here's no reason why, it just is.  that's not very helpful.

and i'mronburgundy?...i am not posting thinking my comic's great and everyone else is dumb for not liking it...i've said before that if you don't like it it's fine...that's ok...but to post like that is not cool...it's just unnecessary

i just thought a community of webcomic lovers would be a lot nicer...or at least civil...to someone trying to show their comic to the people who all like the same comic (i.e. Questionable Content)...i was hoping for people to check out my comic and hopefully give some CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms.  anyway, i'd like to say i appreciate everyone who checked it out or posted here that didn't say hateful things.

p.s. no i was never banned, the other post was a friend of mine to which posted and i didn't know about it until afterward
