OWL-060 Our Skylight Assembly - Our Skylight Assembly EP
Our Skylight Assembly is dense, shimmery synth-pop from former members of Petrograd In Transit. Proudly wearing their musical influences on their collective sleeve, Our Skylight Assembly's debut EP was mastered by Jason Martin of Starflyer 59 and "combines indie-friendly power-pop with a love for Reagan-era pop radio."
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl60.zip

OWL-059 Lost Reverie - Railroads EP
Flawless production and technical proficiency mark Juan Herrera's sophomore release as Lost Reverie. Runs the line between post-rock and prog-metal, with plenty of unique creativity.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl59.zip

http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl58.zip

http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl57.zip

OWL-056 Ben Woods - Things Weren't Always This Way
Things Weren't Always This Way is yet another stop on the ceaselessly evolving path of Ben Woods' creativity. Ben takes neo-classical minimalism to an entirely new level by blending, reversing, and layering pianos and other instruments to capture a surreal snapshot of his own psyche.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl56.zip

OWL-055 the Picturesque Episodes - Strange Lights and Ornaments
Strange Lights and Ornaments is a few steps away from the Picturesque Episodes' previous Wise Owl releases (Dreams and Dreams II) and shows the mastery with which Darius Gerulis blends post-rock guitar riffs and swelling ambient soundscapes.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl55.zip

Layers upon layers of attention holding guitar hooks and catchy rhythms. Awesome driving music.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl54.zip

OWL-053 the Picturesque Episodes - Dreams II

OWL-028 The Owl Archimedes / Louis Sterrett - Hot Shade
A patient, burning collaborative improvisation lasting just over 27 minutes. Recorded live in March 2008 and mastered by Louis Sterrett at his home. The only post-production editing done was level balancing and panning.

http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl14.zip

OWL-013 E.E & The Owl Archimedes - The End of Deconstruction
Originally ABBA's "Dancing Queen," the first disc illustrates the beginning of the deconstructive process that created the second disc. Each track is an evolution of the one before it, building to a glorious climax with E.E's "Liminal State" and resolving peacefully with The Owl Archimedes' "Lost Memories."
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl13.zip

OWL-012 Audi0scribbler - For My Imaginary Friends EP
  Highly complex jungle/IDM.

http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl10.rar

OWL-009 The Owl Archimedes - Among Skeletons And Skyscrapers
Concept album about the reunion and separation of twin brothers in a post-apocalyptic New York. Slow and brooding builds to frantic and violent and fades to resignation. Entirely electronic.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl09.zip

OWL-008 Rigor Canis - The Gospel According to Jummal
One of my favorite noise albums of all time.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl08.zip

Second half of Deathmash's dual album debut. Pounding jungle and schizophrenic breakcore.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl07.zip

First half of Deathmash's dual album debut. Squarepusher-influenced IDM.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl06.zip

Electronic third release from The Owl Archimedes.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl04.zip

Guitar drones and village ambience recreate an epic vision quest through southeast Asia.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl03.zip

OWL-002 The Ship to Coats Island - Isolation & Escape EP
  Heart-wrenchingly beautiful minimal shoegaze.
http://wiseowl.shereallyleft.us/owl02.zip

OWL-001 The Owl Archimedes - Children of the Shortwave
Experimental ambient post-somethingorother. The Owl Archimedes' Debut album. Atmospheric and eerie.

EDIT: (FOR CIVILITY)
Could you please refrain from using the boards for blatantly promotional purposes. After further looking into your record label, I can see that your purpose is exposure rather than promotion.

This is actually a decent little record label. Wouldn't it be nice if we could not be overly hostile towards someone who is investing a lot of their time and efforts into putting out good music?

Ignore it if it bothers you that much.

I have to disagree with you there, Tommy. No matter if he is making good stuff or if he iis making shit to which nobody would ever listen, he's not really trying to discuss anything, rather he is trying to advertise for free. He is not encouraging discussion, or offering any kind of insight that is not available in any other kind of promotional material.

I think I would even be okay if he even pretended to want to create discussion, but he wants to get more hits, which makes it spam, IMO. Ulterior motives to discussion are all fine and good, but if there's no possible discussion, it's spam.

EDIT: I fully realize the hypocrisy of bumping a thread that I think is spam, but I think that the spam vs. not spam discussion is generally prominent enough that it warrants discussion.

I understand the unwritten rule regarding promotion, I just think the chap above my original post (pre-edit) came across as needlessly hostile.

Hostility wasn't my intention. Thus, I edited my post accordingly for the sake of civility. I won't repeat what IO just said because that is the very problem I have with koalamanchester's (or Jim's) post.

I did not listen to it because I read "ben folds" and "piano melodies", which is all "uh guys I do not want to listen to Ben folds" and then I realized it wasn't Ben Folds but I still didn't really feel like listening to it.

Essentially what I am saying is that you should have him change his name.

hey!

I definitely wasn't trying to create that little shitstorm over all this. I just figured that (this being the music forum) you all might be interested in checking out some independent music.

While my main goal was to create publicity and traffic for Ben's album, I always invite and appreciate discussion and opinions. I guess I failed to mention in my original post that you can download this album for free (as well as about 22 other albums) from the Wise Owl Records website.

Anyhow, it's not like I just stumbled across this forum and spammed it for no reason... I've actually been reading QC for years, although I only fairly recently started lurking around the forums.

Sorry to get all that sand in your collective vagina, and thanks to those who didn't get bent out of shape over it.

Hey everyone,

I just decided to give the OP a facelift and include our full catalog, so I hope everyone jumps in and checks out some great free music from some really talented independent artists.

As you can see from  the above posts, not everyone approves of my presence here, so if anyone has a serious legitimate issue with my maintaining a thread full of really good free music, then please just lock or delete. I have no intention of causing drama over this. I do encourage people to post any thoughts they have on releases, positive or negative, and if you have a music blog or something and would like to review anything, go for it and post it here too :)

I honestly don't mind threads like this. I'll probably check out a few of these bands and if I like one, I would be very glad this thread existed.

If we got these threads all the time, it would be one thing. However, perhaps even a thread for labels or distros to post in would be quite positive (though unnessecary since they really don't here)!

I dunno just my two cents. Guys this happens on other internet forums and nobody shits their pants.

After listening to a couple of artists on the list i have to say i enjoyed Rural Life and Ben Woods quite a lot and will look to maybe purchase albums when i am not so poor.

With regards to the thread, maybe it would've been better to just link to a download page for all of the albums rather than posting individually to make it seem less like spam? I can see both sides of the argument and would say i lean towards liking this thread for introducing new artists but the original post doesn't really make it clear that the OP would like this to be a discussion thread rather than just exposure for the label.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'd really like to add spoiler tags to the catalog list so its not so obtrusive, but I lack the proper permissions to post spoilers. If an admin or moderator wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate spoiler permission. You have my solemn vow not to post spoilers of any variety elsewhere.

PLEASE REST ASSURED WE ARE WORKING ON ANY AND ALL ISSUES RE: FORUM FUNCTIONALITY

Also I have to thank everyone for responding so well to my own band's thread because it means I set a precedent allowing hard-working folks releasing music to start threads about said music and have said threads be accepted! Please follow this precedent.

koalamanchester, I can't figure out why you would need spoilers when you could perhaps just promote your label without links to the individual releases instead, but other than that thanks for sharing this music with us. I missed this thread the first time around! I'm going to pore over the list and take a look at some stuff that might interest me.

Might I recommend our most recent compilation? It's a pretty good representation of our current lineup. Would anyone really prefer if I removed the links from the OP? I guess it doesn't really matter unless someone else has a strong preference.

Hey everyone, I just thought I'd update the catalog list in the OP and let you all know there are several new releases available on the Wise Owl site, including OWL-060 Our Skylight Assembly's self-titled debut EP, mastered by Jason Martin from Starflyer 59.

Enjoy!
