I've used that 'junk food' argument to explain my unnatural fondness for Fall Out Boy before in conversation - it's pretty apt. Even talented chefs eat Bic Macs once in a while. And enjoy them. And even if they complain about the ingredients/aftertaste/lack of ethics in the product, they'll go back and do it again.

Oh yes, Necrophagist isn't very odd at all in the grand scheme of things. Not much of a fan myself but I do like comparable bands like Origin or Nile. Much odder is noise like Kylie Minoise, Filthy Turd or Lambsbread. It's really not a big deal though. Many good friends of mine don't understand why I like a lot of the music I do but I don't see why this should make me feel guilty about it or try to hide it. Who cares? It's just a bit of music.

Yes, my answer has always been "because I enjoy listening to it".

well, thats what i use, but still, its hardly something i advertise, because quite simply almost no one will get why or just think worse of me for it. so no big deal i can listen to what i want, but i still find it awkward explaining to girls why i would enjoy listening to a song called  "fermented offal discharge"  (but really, the solo is sweet!).

and yes nile kicks ass, i just got their three latest albums, havent tried Origen, are they good? yeah, ive listened to metal for a long time, but i still want into this sort of thing until very recently, so i understand why other people wouldn't want to hear it.

I am embarassed that I like Paramore's "Misery Business" because the band is entirely the creation of a record company and didn't even exist as a group until Sony decided to put these disconnected musicians together to form a band that was carefully marketed to appeal to teen and tween girls.

Yeah, but... she's so fucking hot, man.

That's a major part of the appeal for me. But then, I'm 18.

Honestly, that's why I got into them. But then I realised they have some pretty infectious pop-punk songs, and that considering her age she is an outstanding vocalist and a pretty good lyricist by generic emo standards. I think 'Misery Business' has some nice lines in it ("she has a body like an hourglass/it's ticking like a clock").

However, she is so fucking hot, man. I hope to meet her one day. I might just have an erection in the photo, though.

Pretty much every "Jam Band" I like, I get mocked for.

Do you listen to Sountribe Sector 9?  They're considered a jam band but are way better than any of those others.  They're much more of a psychedelic/space-rock band, especially live.

I like STS9 live, though they aren't a favorite - I'm not big on the electronic jam bands;  Galactic, Particle, Disco Biscuits...  all fun at a festival but not exactly my thing.

I don't know, to me it's usually just more of a pre-emptive strike because especially on the net there's always some jackass who'll say 'lol they're shit no-one cool listens to them' to anything you listen to.

True enough, but there's a difference between "not caring what anyone thinks of your music" and "not caring what moronic Internet fucktards think of your music."

I can assure you both apply. But please note the 'especially' appended there. Virtually EVERYONE I know thinks that SOMETHING I listen to is shit, and I just don't take any crap for it, and I don't give them any crap for what they listen to either.
