Dear Sydney People/People Near Sydney
« on: 20 May 2008, 20:39 »

So I have decided to fly down for a visit sometime in the next few months or whenever is best.  Seeing as no matter how hard I try to get a new job it is impossible, I can quite easily give myself a long weekend and come down.  i could use the holiday!

You should tell me when will be the best time, things to do, who will let me sleep at their house, etc.  I will be likely to come down on a Saturday-Tuesday long weekend, because then I only have to take one day off so it won't make me poor!  I want hangouts guys, tell me the haps!

I think June 20-23 is the obvious answer, as then the rest of us will be there.

Don't come between June 27 and July 24! I will be BUSY in OTHER PLACES.
Any time before then is fine! I normally get Sunday Monday Tuesday off (or minimal shifts) so I could come down to Sydney to visit or you could come to Newcastle and stay with me and then we could daytrip into Sydney or whatever!
I would really really really really like to meet up with you Jodieeee think how awesome we could be togetherrrrr

Oh hey staying in Newcastle is a good option if it is not very far from Sydney!  Because you will make me cupcakes!  Also it is many cheapers to fly there than from Brisbane to Sydney.

Hannah's holidays start on like the 18th of June so I was hoping to get in with them.  What about that week like the 21-24 of June?

Sounds super to me! I was HOPING we could organise a sort of Aus QC meet at the same time as Tronno!
Newcastle is a three hour train ride from Sydney. If you don't mind that.

Lunchables, I love trains!  Three hours is not a long time!  Plus it would be worth it for the amount of moneys I would be saving on flights.  Hannah lives in Newcastle too right?  Because that would be doubly convenient.

Especially seeing as I would probably be more likely to get in on Friday night to avoid being frightened in an Airport really early in the morning.  Because if you are working then I will be frightened in Newcastle instead!

Guys I have never been on a real airoplane before!

Hannah studies in Canberra but her Mum lives in Newcastle(ish) but her Est lives in Sydney so I don't know where she would be. Best ask her! We could invite Jamie along, if she feels she is sufficiently QC-ish enough these days. She is fun to have along anyway because she talks lots and is entertaining. Also when we get into Sydney there is lovely Jimmy and awesome Fatty, who are worth the trip by themselves!
Oh um I normally work Friday and Saturday afternoon/nights so we'd have to work something out there.

I will be back at home for my birthday (19th), so I will most likely be able to pick you up from the airport on the friday night.

If we can organise what we will be doing during this time, so est and I can work out who is travelling where over the weekend, then that would be good.

We need more Aussies in this thread so we can work something out!

Ok, so here are my plans.  You guys can then shuffle me everywhich way to whatever you want to do, as long as I get to go shopping!

Friday night: get to Newcastle about 9pm ish, Hannah will pick me up because she is great.

Tuesday: Leave Newcastle about 5pm

To be honest, I am happy to work around everyone else, do whatever, not make anyone's lives difficult.  I havn't booked the flights yet but I will soon, because I like to do things quickly! Zoom!

Dear people who live very far away from me,

FIGHT YOU

I've been noticing a lot of Wisconsin forumites these days.  There are quite a few upper-midwesterners as well.
Sure, Canada is sorta close to the midwest, but some of us (okay, me) are criminals and not allowed into Canada for at least five years.

Maybe we should have a "Corn-Con."

I'm pushing for next year's official forum con to be in Chicago next year, like the one in Tronno this year.

Guys, stop letting me get my hopes up thinking people are all eager to meet up. You are not in/near Sydney, so there is no point for you to be in here talking about Tronno or Chicago.

Besides, there will probably be more people at OzCon than at TronnoCon anyway.

Dead Sydney People,

If one of you could get a wallaby, a steer and a turtle in the same vicinity and snap me a picture, I would be forever appreciative.

Actually, one of my friends has turtles and the university campus I went to last year had wallabies. If we can get a steer I think we could do this.

I would come to Sydney hangouts, but I am more of a lurker really.
However I have been in the same building as Jimmy on quite a few occasions. Not that it ever progressed further than a nod of "hey. internet guy"

I should be finished uni by the time this goes down, so I'll be up for it if you guys are cool with me being there.

I would have said hi but I was only about 70% sure that it was you the first time. Then by the time I was sure it was you we'd already set a precedent of nodding at each other and I didn't know how to break that. Anyway, you should totally come along.

Don't you fucking hate that? Back in college, my roommate actually confronted a guy he was exchanging nods with: "Listen, we don't actually know each other, so how about we just stop nodding when we pass each other?"

Ok everyone who matters.  I just booked/paid for my flights.  So you all better still be up for this!
I shall be arriving in Newcastle on Friday the 20th of June at 9:05pm!  Hannah is getting me then we will probably go drink coffee in Lunchy's cafe until she finsihes work or something.
I leave Newcastle at 5:05pm on Tuesday the 24th of June.

The times in between I belong to you!  I demand lots of Sydney shopping though, so BE PREPARED.  Also, we have to have a hannah birthday celebration.

This is 3 weekends away!  I am excited!

Well, Fatty has gone mad.

At any rate, I was thinking that if there is a day on that weekend when people are just hanging out in Newcastle (though I have no idea why they would) that I might take a train over for the day. It's been forever since I've been out of the city and it might be nice (though again, I do not know why I think this).

It'd be easier if the majority of us weren't in coastal areas.

We can hang in Newcastle on Saturday! Then go into Sydney on Sunday maybe and stay at someone's place overnight? Then do more shopping on Monday! (Because more things will be open then, I assume.)
Is anyone willing to put Jodie and I (and Hannah?) up for Sunday night?

If it weren't for the fact that this is in the middle of my exams, I would be seriously considering the possibility of a couple of days in sydney to meet The Internet.

If there is shenanigans happening in Sydney tomorrow, I'll be up for that, if someone wants to send me a pm or an email with something like a general time and/or location.

I own a pith helmet, you know you want to hang out with me.
