Do I spend my money on seeing Spoon or Hot Chip/LCD Soundsystem?

Spoon is cheaper (and I like them better) but the trip to the other side of the country for LCD SS would probably be pretty fun.

Plus you'll see get chances to see Spoon in the future, it might be the last chance you get to see LCD.

65daysofstatic was pretty loud and awesome.

Although I'm excited to see LCD Soundsystem at the end of the month, I imagine it's going to be a great show put on by extremely tired, stressed, and overpressured performers.

  • This is my happening and it freaks me out!

I really, really, really hope the stars align and LCD play in a place at the same time as I am in that place when I am darting around N.America later this year. I'd hate to think they are going to disappear and I didn't see them again.

Ditto.

(I just really really want to see Mates of State and Wolf Parade.)

Wolf Parade are really good live. I saw them accidentally when a friend had a free ticket and I had a lot of fun, in spite of the fact that I don't own or listen to any of their records.

The Dead Weather! Such a good show.

Yes! Yes it was. I saw them at NOLA Jazz Fest on Sunday and they rocked it. Jack picked up a guitar and sang for a few tracks towards the end, which I gather never happens.

I also saw Earth, Wind, & Fire, Band of Horses, and Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam were boring but did a decent cover of Kick Out the Jams.

My heart now belongs to Amanda Shaw. For reference:

Gosh, Primavera has released the schedule and it's balls.

Broken Social Scene is playing at the same time as Tortoise and Seefeel and Wild Beasts, Pavement is playing at the same time as Sleigh Bells, Titus Andronicus at the same time as The Fall, Smith Westerns at the same time as the XX, Low at the same time as New Pornographers, Wilco at the same time as Japandroids, Panda Bear and Les Savy Fav, Cold Cave at the same time as Shellac, the Pixies at the same time as Yeasayer, Polvo at the same time as Florence & the Machine, and Built to Spill at the same time as No Age.

Essentially, the bands that I will be capable of seeing has been cut in half if I don't want to run around like a mad man.

I would see Pavement, Low, Wilco, Shellac, Pixies, Polvo, and Built to Spill.  Broken Social Scene vs. Tortoise is incredibly difficult, those two bands are tied for the best show I've ever been to.  The others I have no opinion on.

Basically, that schedule sucks.

  • Oh, hey.

HOLY FUUUUUUUUUUUCK Caribou is so goddamn good live. They played most of Swim and some tracks off of Andorra and The Milk of Human Kindness, but they were edited and jammy versions that took advantage of their insane drumming skills and noisy psych crescendo tendencies. The crowd was going apeshit. Crowning achievement of the night was my getting on stage to dance with some girls, followed by most of the crowd getting up there with me. Shining, glorious show. MEMORY: MADE.

Going to see The National in August. I have a question though: would they sound better indoors or outdoors? I can either go see them in Columbus, Ohio at the LC Pavilion outdoors or in Royal Oak, Michigan at the Royal Oak Theater indoors. Which should I pick?

Eleanor and I saw him doing that at the Bradford film festival. You will not be disappointed, I just hope you have a better guy introducing it than we did. The guy from the film festival asked really dull questions and then ran out of time so nobody from the audience actually got to ask anything.

My summer show lineup just increased greatly! In addition to still possibly seeing Wolf Parade, Antlers, Bear in Heaven, and Stars, I am definitely seeing:

May 19: Eluvium w/ Julianna Barwick @ Le Poisson Rouge
May 29: Dan Deacon @ The Cake Shop
May 30: MONO w/ the Twilight Sad @ The Bowery Ballroom
June 4: Grouper @ Issue Project Room
June 8: This Will Destroy You w/ Slow Six and Light Pollution @ The Knitting Factory
June 11: West Side Story on Broadway (I dunno, could be fun, right?)
June 12: Pocahaunted @ Glasslands Gallery
June 16: Mates of State @ The Bowery Ballroom
June 19: Zola Jesus w/ Nice Face and a bunch of others @ Glasslands Gallery
June 30: Ducktails also @ Glasslands

yay!

seeing eluvium tonight YEAH! ill give a detailed report when im back.

edit: show ruled, the opening act was this chick who sampled her voice and covered it in way too much reverb, which was cool. eluvium opened with under the water it glowed, probably my favorite song by him which was cool. then he played a bunch of songs off the new one plus i think radio ballet. overall, a pretty damn good show! next, a silver mt zion wednesday whoo!

Sounds like the same set I saw, which was the fucking tits. Juliana Barwick is fab too. I bought her EP and had her sign it. The setlist for my (and probably your) show was:

1. Under the Water It Glowed
2. Leaves Eclipse the Light
3. The Motion Makes Me Last
4. Radio Ballet
5. Weird Creatures
6. Making Up Minds
7. Prelude for Time Feelers
8. Cease to Know

oh man i just got home from a silver mt zion. fucking incredible.

Edit: just wanted to throw in a few more words. they were a bit quieter this time than they were in 2008, but i think thats mostly due to the loss of guitar and cello. the actual music didn't hurt too much from the loss of members though. they made up for all the missing instruments with what was left, which was cool. the crowd banter was also a bit weaker this time, but i think thats cause efrim was asking the audience if anyone had any questions and nobody was able to think of good ones. my cousin who saw them in NY and then again with me tonight said they had much better questions in NY so the banter was better. they played metal bird, there is a light, engine broke blues, god bless our dead marines, 13 blues, and they encored with microphones in the trees. overall, it was a great show.

Eluvium was just ok. I mean it was pretty good but it was easily the least good of all the times I've seen him. Frankly the trio didn't do much for me. There was an over reliance on new material which hurt the set. The volume was WAY too low. Dunno if this is a new approach or just the venue but every other time I've seen Eluvium, which is many, he's basically blown my ear drums out with awesomely immense walls of sound. Not so tonight. Not even close. When I play my Eluvium records it's usually louder than it was tonight live. The result was a much more subdued show that bordered on being uninteresting a couple times. It made me sad since I know he has the potential to put on powerful live shows but he really fell flat tonight.

Saw the Black Keys & Pearl Jam tonight.  Because of traffic we only got to see a few of the Keys songs, which I was kinda pissed about cuz I was more excited to see them.  I really wish their solo shows weren't sold out :(   And Pearl Jam was pretty good, played an almost 3 hour set, really high energy and mixed it up, and Vedder actually sounds better LIVE than on record, his voice is that amazing.

LC! were pretty excellent last night. I mean, there were some weak moments, but the high points definitely made up for those.

They jumped off the stage and played in the middle of a five hundred person crowd while everyone was dancing around them. rad.
