How did this thread get to 4 pages without Thunder Road by Springsteen?

I was actually going to post that, but I had posted the live version of "Lost in the Flood," and I figured putting up two Springsteen songs would earn me a fair amount of ire/ridicule, since people around here don't seem to take too kindly to The Boss. But yeah. Thunder Road is perhaps my favorite song of all time.

In all fairness a drumstick is smaller then a penis and I am fairly positive any guy/gal groupie is well versed in penis....now a chainsaw up the anus that would be fucking metal and worthy of scorn I mean a chainsaw is effing big.....
anyhow I was busy listening to this when Metallica were destroying the sacred chalice of Heavy meal...these guys are French Canadian I am fairly positive that is on a par with drumstick sodomy

I don't know what kind of monster cock is dangling between your legs, but if it is longer than a drumstick you could earn a fortune in porn. Seriously.

I guess what I am saying is that girth is not everything, and until we have proven reports on how far up the groupie asses the drumsticks were pushed, we remain uncertain of the amounts of pain the inflicted.

You bring up a good point-I was thinking ok Lars greases up a vic frith and pops in a poopshooter--its like the size of a finger, of course, I was not taking in the equation of length versus velocity....The sheer physics  of which could be impossible without elastics...coupled with the whole lick it equation I have now surmised that Metallica are the Chachi Arcola's of metal....

In a world of metal gone poostick thankThor's balls we still have the perpetual and untarnished stylings of satans favorites:

Drumsticks in anuses is no fucking big deal. Neither is having the groupies lick the sticks after the fact. My reasoning? I have four words for you:

Two girls, one cup

Now everybody go listen to "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden and find the one good thing that can possibly be associated with Chris Cornell. Though it's not the greatest rock song of all time, it's still pretty goddamn great, and ESPECIALLY considering the jackass singing it.

Dude Soundgarden had lots of good stuff, mostly before that song.  "Jesus Christ Pose" is way better.

Agreed. I'd take Outshined, Slaves and Bulldozers (even with the shitty solo) or Jesus Christ Pose over Black Hole Sun in a second.

Although, then again, I pretty much prefer anything on Badmotorfinger to Black Hole Sun, and I don't even particularly like Soundgarden.

Right now I am very partial to "Slip Inside This House" from Easter Everywhere by the 13th Floor Elevators.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=nwSA0Tckwbk
Sure, "You're Gonna Miss Me" is a lot -tighter- in terms of writing, but I do think that the multi-minute meandering is really suited to the Elevator's sound.  There's just something really satisfying about how triumphant the chord progression on the verses, or for that matter the entire song, are.

Sometimes, though, I feel more angry and it would be the Rocket From the Tombs (about 75 or so percent faster) cover of "Search and Destroy."  Because it is pure rock'n'roll self-destruction in a two-minute package.
My opinion varies from week to week.

Re:Metallica, I didn't hate Load or Reload, but I basically haven't listened to them since I was 16.  I think we can all agree that St Anger was some of the shittiest shit a rock group has every shat?  Yes?

Several of the songs on St. Anger would be a LOT better if they'd been recorded/produced/mixed properly.

To be pedantic: Because it's not a rock song.  It's a reworking of a folk song.

But it is indeed bad ass.

Nick Caves version is so reworked that the only real connection it has to the folk song is it's title and parts of its premise. Besides which, if you're being really pedantic, a folk song stops being a folk song the moment you record it. Or, if you want to be pedantic another way, a folk song where the author or composer is known is not a folk song. Stagger Lee's a rock song, pure and simple.

Cave's version is still a folk song in the context of folk being a genre.  The arrangement, cadence, composition, premise and delivery are all demonstrably folk.

Guys, I don't know anything about Soundgarden other than the fact that Chris Cornell should never have tainted Rage with his "Oh sup guys let's play pop-metal now" shit. Whether or not it's the greatest Soundgarden song is Greek to me. I just like the motherfucking song and thought it at least deserved an honorable mention, and if I wanted to see 69ing I'd go look at porn.

I will stand firmly behind the assertion that The Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is the best folk-rock song ever recorded. Joan Baez should go kill herself, by the way, because I am sorry, I'll take the 'defeated' feeling production and in-character gravel of Levon Helm over the bleating sheep vibrato and Dixieland-meets-gospel sound.

(I'd find a video but I don't trust YouTube to have anything that awesome, that site is super shitty for that era of that genre)

The gap in quality between early Soundgarden and Audioslave is massive.  Give Ultramega OK and Badmotorfinger a chance.  They're way less "pop" than "Black Hole Sun".

I'd have to second "Free Bird" here, together with "Bohemian Rhapsody".
Those are the kind of rock songs my dad listened to when he was younger, the ones I love listening to and the ones which (hopefully) my children will listen to and love.

Also, congratulations on discussing groupie sodomization. I went back a page and re-read the whole thing.
And if you become so famous that it doesn't really affect your superstardom whatever you do with or to your groupies - awesome. You have arrived.

I recently found my collection of backups and i've been putting them on this computer and finding some lost gems.

Among them was this live album by The Kinks, most of it is very good, but some of the songs are really just phenomenal. Specially a performance of I'm Not Like Everybody Else. I'm Not Like Everybody Else has always been one of my favourite songs by The Kinks, despite the tinny recording, but here the song is a powerhouse.

I uploaded this song http://www.mediafire.com/?921kitmyozj

Or we could just accept that we all have different musical tastes and that everyone will have a different idea of what will constitute the best.

I think zerodrone said something that this thread was more about songs we just remember having/have awesome times listening to.  I heard that song a few times through my childhood and I could never dislike it.  It's so wonderfully catchy and sappy.

Last night I decided I was going to cover it.

I love that song, and it's a strong contender in my eyes. But I will play the "The End" trump card on that one, because you can't fucking top Jim Morrison in terms of lyrical or vocal heroism.

I do like the Van Halen covers of Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman" and "You Really Got Me" by the Kinks, though.
