Yeah, but it's pretty damn fun. Or it used to be, before everything got nerfed.

Still better than counter strike, or battlefield, though.
I remember it being very glitchy and annoying, and bunnyhopping being the way to survive when you come face to face with an enemy. I heard the newer versions are less glitchy, but I haven't played for more than a year.

Isn't America's Army that game that the U.S. Army made in an attempt to recruit more cannon fodder?
Yeah, but that website is a parody-type thing. Check the links down the bottom. It's meant to mock the War and the America's Army game. The text on the webpage is actually the lyrics to the song.

It was pretty glitchy, seems to be better now. But it goes up and down as they patch - some patches bring new bugs, some eliminate old. You can't jump and shoot, so there's no bunnyhopping. Easiest way to kill somebody near you is to just shoot them in the face.

Isn't that the case in real life too?

Man, I must have been 11 years old when I first heard QOTSA. It was the album "Music For The Deaf"...

That's probably one of the greatest Rock N' Roll albums ever...

Y'know, I really don't know what to tell you there.

I thought John was only the Bassist for Propaghandi and the singer for The Weakerthans... (i.e. After he quit Propaghandi... Which incidentally was before "Die Jugen Marschiert" was created...)

He did vocals, too.  Granted, I have only heard a few songs by them (mostly "Gifts," because John does it solo at most Weakerthans concerts) and they've all been off of Less Talk, More Rock.

It's kind of bizarre how Samson is doing so good with The Weakerthans when Propagandhi were such a godawful band.

The first thing I thought of as soon as you said this: "A Crack Up At The Race Riot" by Hope of the States.

Can I say "'Semicharmed Life' by Third Eye Blind wins the '90s pop-rock title" without getting pounded into the ground with mockery? I still love that song.

It's not great. They've dropped the interesting individuality of their self titled, getting further and further from stoner rock and further and further into generic hard rock. Songs For The Deaf had a few good songs, but on the whole it was the kind of thing that you'll find from most mainstream rock bands.

While my favourites are still the older Blues Masters (John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf) and when I listen to rock I gravitate to the older tunes (Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZTop, George Thorogood, Queen, etc.) I do listen to some of the newer stuff, cause hey, it's what's on the radio.

Of all the recent music I've listened to, after the Trews, the only song I've heard that's made it into my collection is Land of Confusion by distrubed.  Higher energy than the original and a much harsher tone suits the song much better.

Not if you are listening to the right stations. Sure, you don't really get new songs on there all that often (some bands are still trucking, but they never seem to have singles on the classic rock stations), but I am fine with that.

I haven't been able to find a Northern Colorado metal station that actually plays metal, though, if I had, I probably wouldn't be listening to the classic rock stations.

What about Breakfast at Tiffany's and Two Princes? There is so much in the way of awesome 90's pop-rock!

Errr.  I despise those songs, but okay.

Perhaps 90s pop rock is less awesome if one had to actually suffer through it while knowing that every second one was forced to hear Hootie or whatever was one less second that could be spent listening to awesome 90s indie pop rock like The Poster Children, Sloan, The Muffs, Velocity Girl, that dog., Juliana Hatfield, Belly, the Breeders, etcetera...

Under the circumstances, this seems like an appropriate addition to the thread.  I know I should dislike the Spin Doctors on the merits, but for sentimental reasons I can't.  I still listen to Pocket Full of Kryptonite every so often.

As far as the original premise of the thread, I distinctly remember thinking Rockin' In The Free World sounded amazing coming out of the theater's sound system at the end of Fahrenheit 9/11

Can "Bohemian Like You" count in that category even though it came out in 2000? The late nineties and early oughts were basically the same anyway, just like the early nineties were pretty continuous with the late eighties.

Yeah, man. I've been hunting down some of their bootlegs, trying to get the Drum Machine vinyl. "The Scenario" kicked serious ass. If anyone watched Pump Up The Volume, they'd know it.
For everyone else, it basically was a very explicit murder story song that was kept off the Ill Communication album. The song is hell to find now.

(things about Hope for the States)

By the way Pat, have I ever told you that I fucking love you?

Yes, yes you have. But don't get too enthusiastic. You did send me that song, if you remember.

I will have you all know that "Renegade" by Styx is one of my favourite classic rock tunes ever, and despite constant airplay on Classic Rock Radio (you know, the one that plays the exact same music as every other Classic Rock Radio station in the country) I am not sick of it. Yet.

I don't know what I was thinking when I tried to introduce my friend/boss's kid to "Little Wing" by Hendrix. He promptly deleted it from his iTunes because, well, I guess he's a little bitch with shitty taste in music. You know that band with those 10-year-olds that the Disney Channel whores out these days? The Naked Brothers Band, I think? Yeah, he prefers them.
