I have never heard of any of those "20 internet acronyms" actually being used in a situation.

Parents seem to think that every sentence during online chat is an acronym.

POS - Piece of Shit, as in "What a POS article"

I mean, I know I don't go to chat places and such (other than gabbly) and haven't been on irc in aaaages but I have never seen most of those fucking acronyms.  It kind of feels like a satire article, or at best whoever they went to to give them some acronyms is pulling their leg.

This is like, the least helpful article ever. All it's going to do is make a bunch of parents really paranoid. It doesn't help that the first five are all related to keeping something secret from parents...

NALOPKT... does that really need to be an acronym? If you polled 500 middle schoolers, how many of them do you think would actually know what this means?

I've seen NALOPKT used in nerd-land [i.e. forums occupied by nerds and geeks] from time to time.  There are places that it's common to use initials, not as a standard acronym, but just to abbreviate a sentence which the writer simply guesses that his readers will be able to work out.

Granted it's been a while since I've been in high school or in a chat room, but I find it funny that the only place I've ever seen that "Parents Over Shoulder" or equivalent is in alarmist articles about how the internet is corrupting your children. The only one of those I ever remember seeing in a real chat room is ASL.

A slide show makes it look like they know what the hell they are talking about, when it is painfully obvious to everyone that they do not.

When you're enough of an alarmist to make a list like that, I doubt saving time is a priority.

Similarly, when you're enough of an idiot to make a list like that, I doubt saving bandwidth is a priority.

If the majority of people who saw these plates were either innocent about its meaning or not offended, it seems like such a waste of time and resources chasing down everyone who had "WTF" on their plates.  It just upsets the old people when you tell them stuff like this!

Why should old people be more offended than others?  They've had longer to get used to rude words.

Actually, you are right, all the old people I know are not scared of swears.  All the middle aged people I know don't necessarily know that certain things are rude, and when they find out, they pretend to be shocked.  Middle aged people, why do you pretend to be shocked?

I have never heard of any of those "20 internet acronyms" actually being used in a situation.

That's because you are not 11.

I had the chance to get a NERD license plate - over here you have 1 to 3 letters denominating where the car is registered, then 1 to 2 letters which you can pick and then 1 to 4 numbers - all depending on availability.

I wanted NE-RD-1337. No dice. My brother got to pick it.
Then I wanted my dad to get a NE-RD plate. Nope. My mom wouldn't have it either.

You can also get S-EX or SE-X. But you gotta pay extra.
