Games to play with girlfriend?
« on: 07 Jul 2008, 03:35 »

My girlfriend and I live on opposite sides of the country. Looking for some ideas for couple-friendly games that can be played over long distances.

Let's hear your suggestions!

Aha, to clarify -

I am thinking PC games since neither of us owns any consoles.

She used to play a few might and magic games back in the day but nothing we could play together.

These days we are more into puzzle-solving and such, but I don't want to limit to any specific genre, so if you have any off-the-wall suggestions, go for it.
I'm just a little out of touch with the gaming world these days so trying to get a feel for what's out there.

Well there are quite a few different online multiplayer games out there. Are you looking for maybe an MMORPG? I hear that World Of Warcraft is pretty popular.

Surely you're in a much better position than a bunch of people who you don't know and don't know you or her to suggest games. What do you like? What does she like? How much time have you got? How regular is it? What do you do when you're not on opposite sides of the country?

World of Warcraft lulz.

If you guys are into FPS games, you could get like, Call of Duty or something and use the multiplayer part.  Nothin' says "I love you, honey," like fragging her multiple times.

Teledildonics would probably be a good game for long distances.

fps are a good suggestion, but not what we're looking for.

mmorpg's might be a good direction to go, what is out there aside from world of warcraft? Too many people we know have had negative experiences with relationships and that game.

Well, what about Diablo II?  You can do private games over Battle.net and run through all the levels with each other.  It's pretty good fun.

If you don't mind shooters (and split-screen), the two-player cooperative mode for TimeSplitters 2 is really fun. As long as you don't get stuck playing the same bit over and over again until you make it to the checkpoint.

I recommend the MMORPG Dungeon Runners. It's FREE, irreverent, funny, and not nearly as serious and full of jerks as WoW.

Wow, these are some really great suggestions!

We might give lego star wars a shot, especially if it has online multiplayer.

Dungeon runners looks like a definite contender for us - we love fantasy rp that doesn't take itself too seriously.  We'll see how it goes and report back!

You have to pay to do anything fun in Dungeon Runners, though.  It got pretty boring in a few days, for me.   You'd be a lot better off playing Diablo II.

I just pictured a couple banging (or, rather, a shaking bed with the sounds of fornication and a television turned on to Katamari Damacy), to the Katamari Damacy theme song.

This amuses the hell out of me.

katamari damacy

I totally second this! I love that game! I love the online play in Beautiful Katamari! I'm a girl! I say this is the one!

(Although as far as I know its on the 360 and thats it. I could be mistaken though.)

Also, I vote for TF2. I love that game to death. I'd play it with my boyfriend. It's so much fun to kick guy's asses on games like that, but I'd also be up for being on a team.

I've really enjoyed play Team Fortress 2 with a boy who's a friend. If you have Vent or something, it's great fun to work together.

Or play Mass Effect at the same time. ^_^

It is TF2, you don't stay dead for more than five or ten seconds, it has built-in chat, but I have always preferred TS or vent. I could see the ghoster argument in sudden death though.

Too many people we know have had negative experiences with relationships and that game.

i don't see how world of warcraft would ruin a relationship if both of you play.  the negative experiences i've heard about usually involve one person getting addicted to it, and ignoring their significant other.

If they both play, the combined BO will keep them from procreating, thus robbing them of their only significant reason to be in a relationship at all, or indeed to continue living.

My girlfriend and I live on opposite sides of the country. Looking for some ideas for couple-friendly games that can be played over long distances.

Let's hear your suggestions!

If your girlfriend is a fantasy lover, play an MMORPG like the above-suggested Dungeon Runners or the equally free Sword of the New World. While I have not played DR, I have heard that it is good (and that axes are kickass), and I have also played SotNW and it is quite prettiful and majorly kickass (plus free ).

If your girlfriend likes the idea of fragging people/sniping/playing with objects that shoot small projectiles at deadly speeds, play an FPS, as has also been mentioned (but don't ask me which-- I'm a RPG kinda gal).

Annnd if your girlfriend isn't interested in those, play City of Heroes. I play it with my boyfriend, who lives on a seperate continent, and both love playing it together. ^_^

Happy gaming!

Totally off-topic: I recently had a dream I was having doggystyle sex with a girl and playing a beat'em up against her at the same time and every time I pushed my char would punch or kick hers and every time she pushed back hers would do that to mine.
Now I'll just say "FATALITY" and let you figure out the rest.

Totally on-topic: My little brother has shown me a software called Hamachi which allows you to fake a local area network over the internet so you can play LAN-capable video games even though there is no physical LAN.
If you guys can get that going I suggest Trackmania for short bouts of gaming on top of all the excellent suggestions in here so far.
