This is about a week late, but I have increased my count by one Fender Jaguar. So including my dad's acoustics, the count is now at 10.

Pics. What colour jaguar did you get? Make sure to mod the bridge because the bottom E falling off all the time will really get on your nerves.

I have an old acoustic guitar I found in my grandparent's attic, a blue and white Fender Squire and a Fender Strat my uncle got me for graduation that was custom-built. I'm definitely not a guitar expert; I just try to find the best sound with what I have. I do know that I need a better amp though. The Frontman I got with my Squire is uh, shall we say, limited.

New electric! White Harmony!

Is it one of the new Harmony models? I've heard they're rather expensive compared to what the originals were back in the day.

$1200, CMON LADS.

I don't just shred. I just got bored of taking classical and jazz guitar lessons for six years, and my teacher also just happened to be incredible at that technical shred stuff. I'm a heck of a lot more well rounded than Yngwgay, that's for sure.

I was semi-joking, I just don't "get" shred on anything other than a masturbatory level.

What people often say to me is that guys like Satriani often have good songs as well as shred solos.

But I have to ask - would those songs be good enough to get him signed if he couldn't play 200 notes a minute?

It'll just never be something I like out of certain contexts. If you're not in a metal band I already like, I won't like you're shredding, basically.

You've never, ever listened to a Satch song.

Have you.

Anyway, I own

Yeah, several. And while they were alright, none of them seemed like they'd get him signed ahead of anyone else.

I really like Surfing With the Alien. The rest of his music, however, is rubbish once you take away the speed factor.

I can honestly say that if I had to choose one shredder to be bludgeoned with forever, it'd be Satch.

Guys, what the hell, Satch isn't even a fast shredder.

The vast majority of his music isn't really fast at all. It's like a kind of instrumental pop-rock with shreddy solos.

I've 3, one modded bridge Japanese Fender Jaguar (the mod was SO WORTH IT), an old Art & Luthrie acoustic and a Fender Sonoran Acoustic.

An acoustic guitar and a Epiphone knockoff of Gibson Junior I got some time ago. I'm trading it in pretty soon, because that guitar drives me freaking nuts.

I did the same to my guitar after getting incredibly annoyed at the strings pinging off of the bridge all the time. It's not only worth it, it's pretty much necessary to make it a playable guitar.

So I got to play with one of the new MIM Jaguars the other day. The annoying ass bridge is gone. It's still a floating tremolo but the old, annoying saddles have been replaced with what are basically Gibson tune-o-matic saddles.

Fuck yeah! I may need to get me one of these suckers.

But it's still about the guitar.

Which there is no inherent flaw in.

Some people don't find that kind of music engaging, fair dinkum. However, you saying that Satch doesn't write good songs is like a country fan saying that Decapitated don't write good songs. Which is true, as long as you're looking at it from the context of a different genre.

Or, simply, why bother making judgments about music that lies outside your genre interests in the first place? I'm  completely fine with people having the opinions they do, but the strange thing is that people seem to be happy to judge multiple very different genres by the same standards.

Good!

However, you saying that Satch doesn't write good songs is like a country fan saying that Decapitated don't write good songs. Which is true, as long as you're looking at it from the context of a different genre.

Or just have a different opinion to you.

Or, simply, why bother making judgments about music that lies outside your genre interests in the first place?

Because that's how one decides that it's outside of one's interest.

I'm  completely fine with people having the opinions they do, but the strange thing is that people seem to be happy to judge multiple very different genres by the same standards.

In what sense am I judging multiple different genres?

My general contention is that if you don't like a genre in the first place (like guitar-driven, virtuosic, instrumental music), then you're probably missing something the fans are getting. That's not a personal slight or anything, because it happens with everyone. I dislike the majority of rap, commercial or underground, so I'm in no place to judge it because my tastes fundamentally differ to others in such a way that I am incapable of appreciating many of the elements inherent in rap.

Which is precisely why each genre has to have its own set of criteria for music to be judged by.

So basically what I'm saying here is that if you don't like shred in the first place, of course you're going to think Satch writes mediocre songs.
