I'll be 19 in October.
Anyways, your age doesn't matter, how mature you are matters.

A bouncy castle for your 18th birthday sounds neat, but isn't there usually an overall weight limit and/or number limit for them?

I love this sentiment. Mostly because it is only ever written or spoken by teenagers who are fed up with other teenagers. I said something similar many times as a teen. Then, suddenly, just before I turned 20 I developed this terrible dread. I wasn't going have that "teen" in my age. My identity as an adult would be inevitable at that point. It was scary. So a friend of mine bought me a squirt gun for my birthday and told me to grow up on my own terms. So what is maturity really? I rent my own place, I'm a leader in my church, and I sit in an office for 8 hours a day. I also listen to rock music way too loud sometimes and I carry a pirate lunch box to work every day.

I'm not fed up with teens at all. I just meant it as as long as one knows what jokes and posts are appropriate at what times, your age doesn't matter on a forum. It especially matters here when you're a new user and nobody's quite sure of your personality. You have let people get used to you before doing certain things.

i think im gonna have a bouncy castle for my 18th next year, bouncy castles and alcohol = fun right?

That depends on how much fun you think cleaning up vomit off of bouncy castles is.

I may be older than most of the people who have posted their ages in this thread, but I am not old. Possibly too old for this thread, though. And it's okay to hate this thread, Chuck. Be proud and keep on hating.

psh, my knees had gone to hell by eight or nine years old and I could crack my neck by ten, my back started spazzing in seventh grade and my left ear has audibly lost it's upper range over the last few months.

sorry for the useless thread I.

Just I saw the hometown thread and a bunch of people saying "blah, blah, blah oh and heres were I go to college" and this isn't exactly what most would call a "10 or under" comic, so I was just curious of the general age group.

again sorry for that, my bad. :-(

In what way other than audibly could an ear lose its ability?

Don't worry about it. It's just that this has been done before and people generally don't like list threads in this subforum. We're just ornery. ;)

I am 22, btw. I generally get mistaken for a high schooler (bluh) and can simultaneously feel like I'm 10 and 50.

on the subject of age, just today yet anther person mistook me for being far older than I am. This has happened quiet a lot since I started uni, and the really odd thing is that ever time it happens I'm mistaken for 24, always 24. (I am, in fact, 20)

You are the bitchin'est 55-year-old I ever knew, Pete.

Also didn't we already establish that in just the same way that est is the oldest person here because he is older than time or whatever, Sam is the youngest just because it is that way? I guess what I am saying for this thread is that Sam is the only youngest forumite who matters.

I'm 20, and have been online for quite a long time. I remember sownloading shareware from the University of Michigan's FTP server, some 1996-era Nick.com, getting Playstation cheat codes from some website that probably doesn't exist anymore... all on a Power Mac 7200 with a 28.8k modem. Good times. We still have both.

Oddly enough, the first thing of any significance that happened after I was born (according to Wikipedia, anyway) was the Max Headroom incident.

Guh. I'm 24. You all make me feel old.

I got my first computer when I was 8. That thing still has AOL 1.0 on it. I was writing papers in elementary school on it and printing them out, dot matrix style.

I'm an OG. Original Geek. Word.

I first programmed a computer at university in 1966 (like, really before the Internet, or even ARPAnet*, was invented) as part of my Engineering Science degree.  But there's an older member here who is a computer geek - he could have started before then.

* mind you, ARPAnet was being designed at that time, and reached initial implementation in 1969.

I know my father first saw ARPAnet in a lab at the University of Michigan in 1972 or 1973. I was about a decade away then, but I do vaguely remember having a modem that required placing the handset from the telephone down on these 2 little circles.

An acoustic modem?

I'm 18! That means I'm an adult and as such I'm responsible for my own actions. Shit!

An acoustic modem?

I've never actually seen one, but I get a kick out of people not knowing modems started out like this:

You know how dialup modems are plugged into your phone line and make weird dinging and crackling noises? Well, really old modems didn't even connect directly to a phone jack, and made their noises into a phone cradled against their speakers.

Yes, although my first real programming was done in 1973, which was the first time I was close to a computer I could get to.  It was a Honeywell H600 (later I moved on to a Honeywell H6000).  I had gotten interested in computers in 1964, but they were all hidden behind locked doors.  I did write a heck of a lot of code in various languages over the years (Languages).  And most of it written on teletype machine keyboards.

And moving on to DEC PDP machines, Vaxen, and others.  I actually didn't get a person computer until 1992, since I had such powerful machines at my disposal at work.

Good times, those.

Ah, yes, acoustic modems,dot-matrix printers, punch cards, FORTRAN, BASIC, COBOL, I remember these.

Yes, although my first real programming was done in 1973, which was the first time I was close to a computer I could get to.

Ah well, I had been earning my crust by programming for three years by then (I left my first job as a studio manager at the BBC to do it).

I meant that I can actually hear the difference in pitch every time my ear rings.

But, while everything I said was technically true, I'm not actually out of shape. Yay for that!
