Pumas,

Seriously, I see them as shoes old people wear to try to look hip

I pretty much only wear two types of shoe, except for special occasions.

Dove, there is a problem with those 8-holes: They aren't 10 holes. I am in love with my 10-hole boots. And they don't appear to have a side-zip.

I'm thinking that when I get a job, and need to look less threatening, I might get some chucks, the ones that are as tall as boots, in black. Good idea?

I just spent $140 on a shirt today, I never do that. But my next best option (for a grey shirt that looks good with a black skinny tie) was only $50 cheaper and I just fell in love, even though it is probably honestly too small for me. I just hope I don't become one of those people spending $100 a week on clothes, because that is clearly not me. I need to go by an op-shop, stat...

I may post pictures of me wearing the shirt in the near future, so the purchase can be assessed as a good or bad idea!

Black with white trim, just like I always used to get (I watched Sandlot a lot as a kid, and they didn't make PF flyers anymore).

The black dunlop volley

These!

I wore these to school for most of my last year - and to work as well. I really wanted a black pair and apparently they do not make them in black for girls, either that or I just could not find them at all anywhere. I ended up getting one of the smallest guy sizes and even then they are still touch too big, but so comfy. I just had to wear really thick socks.

THIS. My older sister gave me her old all-black chucks (they always hurt my feet really badly if they aren't broken in, so I take other peoples beaten to shit chucks) and man if they are not the ugliest things. It's like having giant black holes for feet. I have never actually worn them out of the house.

I don't mind the all black bit, I normally wear combat boots, as I have said, and those are shiny black holes, with little bits of shining metal where the paint has worn off eyelets and rivets. Chucks just shouldn't be all black.

Fuck I love pumas, I found a pair of bright neon pink and green ones once at a thrift shop. They got lost in the snow one evening(shoeless in the snow for an hour = suck) though, super sad.

Also, I find chucks make my feet look really really tiny.

Converse don't make my feel look bigger or smaller, I'm just tickled with the vanity sizing. I've got pretty big feet, so it makes me feel better to buy them and say I wear a size seven shoe.

Even if it's clearly not the case.

I don't really see how that works. They are thinner than any other shoe, I find them to make feet look smaller, if anything.

But they're kind of a long pointy shape, and the contrasting flat laces I think tend to emphasize that. I'll amend my statement to say that chucks make MY feet look really long, but less so if they're all beaten up- I think the older ones had different sized toe caps that didn't have quite the same elongating effect.

Chucks USED to make my feet look smaller, but now as they run too big, they make my feet look huge. (But this is because I think my feet look small in proportion to the rest of my body.)

I don't see why Pumas can't be "hip" or whatever anymore. Lots of people around here still wear them. I'd probably own a pair if they weren't so bloody expensive. (I don't like spending over $50 on a pair of shoes unless they're boots.) But the shoes he got are purple and purple shoes are hot.

My sister has always had a rough time finding shoes that fit because her feet are so narrow. My feet just look big and oddly flat. I don't mind this though as they are relatively inexpensive and pretty comfortable.

shoes,

For the record I wouldn't wear those particular shoes but I have had a bit of a fetish for wingtips for ages. When I was young and impressionable and going through my "goth" phase I came really close to buying a pair of wingtip-style Creepers. Luckily I grew out of that pretty quickly. But I would still rock the utter fuck out of a regular pair of wingtips.

Well I stand by my opinion.

OK so maybe this is getting old but I just had a thought this morning about it. I just find it odd that you are discounting an entire shoe manufacturer based on an image. I could concede your point or at least agree to disagree if you were talking about a particular style of shoe, even a rather common style made by several manufacturers. But to strike out an entire brand, which makes dozens of different styles seems kind of odd to me.

When I say Pumas, I mean the 9000 variations on the same shoe design.  Really theres only one design that would be called hip and they just remake it with different colours/materials, you know the ones with the Puma swoosh that goes from the front-side area up and around towards the rear.  Liken it to the way that for some people Converse and Chucks are interchangeable when describing Chuck Taylors.

My only problem with chucks is the breaking-in and breaking-up process. When you switch TO chucks, they hurt for a few days, and when you switch FROM them, nothing feels right but those dratted flat-soled scuffy canvas nightmares.
But I guess they look cool. Sorta.

I too am down with Social Bacon's latest purchase. I would totally rock a pair of those.

I have to say I'm a little dismayed over everyone's ugly shoe-love. Seriously, Dovey I love you and all but those pumas are nasty and Sam, your highlighter-coloured hi-tops make me sad.

Why can't people just rock out in a pair of these? Or if you want to take wearing jackboots to the next level, these are also rad.

Also these and the variations thereof are wonderful for the more "Space-Pirate" look that everyone loves.*

I would definitely not throw them in with regular outfit. It would be for when I put on the dress pants, the nice dress shirt and the black tie with the checkerboard belt. I go all the way when it comes to dressing up, and that would really complete the outfit.

I like those boots, I wouldn't wear them, especially not with platform soles, but I like them. Platform soles don't work for me, I would come a bit too close to hitting my head walking around my room. And I think that the more plain, less metal trim look goes better with the OD, camo, and brown clothes I tend to wear.

Have you had a pair of the first ones you posted? Red isn't my color, but those black ones look nice, are they comfortable and/or durable?

And yes, I am a metalhead.

Also: I hate it when people wear tights/leggins as pants. THEY ARE NOT PANTS. I hate them even more now because the girl who came in wearing them as pants destroyed my sand castle.

I have come to love tights under dresses but it is never okay to wear tights with a regular shirt. Ugh.

Those boots are horrible. Like, truly absurdly, comically bad.

Dovey's kicks are decent, a friend of mine has them in green. Bright colored sneakers are kind of on their way out right now, in the sense that they are on their way in, which means they're out, if you know what I mean. Drabber colors, olive, khaki, brown, deep greens and blues, are currently the way to go, shoe steez wise.
