That looks like a boating outfit.

Yanni thinks you might wanna have a splash of colour in there somewhere :) like, a red kerchief or something. Scarf.

Might also want to reconsider wearing grey shoes with grey jeans!

Yanni should be pleased to know that I am thinking about yellow accessories. I think I will buy some yellow flats, and a yellow necklace to go with it. I already have some yellow barrettes to go with it.

Also, Linds, I have never been boating. I have no clue what a boating outfit is. You can't wear your regular clothes?

I can see where she's coming from. The shirt has a boatneck, and the stripes are very very French sailorman.

And I dyed my hair last night, so it is kinda purpley, but not overly so. It's dark and pretty. The yellow barrettes look really nice with it.

I always associate those red and black striped shirts with Russian sailors, not French ones.

Have I been amiss all these years?!

Red and black may be Russian, but blue and white is French all the way

Er, I meant white and black.

But look! I have propaganda posters to prove it: look at his kerchief, and the shirt beneath his white overshirt!

I don't think anyone looks good in maternity wear unless they are actually pregnant... and yes, I know this is rather "in" right now and not "maternity wear" like I sarcastically call it, but I can't help thinking that whenever I see someone wearing that. But, as with everything, cute girls can make anything cute, basically.

Camo is bad. Unless you're killing people with your bare hands you should not wear camo.

I agree with Leinad as well, but I think that even attractive people look awful in 'maternity wear'.

Those dresses can be ok if you pull the waist in with a belt or sash or something. Otherwise, yeah, they make everyone look pregnant. Everyone. I like the pattern though.

No one's saying you can't wear them if you want to. We're just letting you know that they are not attractive.
Anything that goes into a swishy bottom just under the breasts does not look good, period. But that's just my opinion.

Hey, when you are a lady that has a little extra around the middle, empire waists are your friend. Like all clothing, there are good and bad ways to wear them.

Bad:

That does indeed make you look pregnant.

Good:

Does not make you look pregnant.

The key is the size of the waistband and the amount of fabric hanging off of it. A tiny little waistband will tend to add weight, as will lots and lots of fabric. If the waistband is wider with a more fitted style below it, they are very figure-flattering.

a lot of it depends less on physical attractiveness and more on body type. empire waist dresses tend to be most flattering on very skinny girls because they add curves.

I retract my previous statement after reading this. Trouble was that every time I've ever seen anyone wearing an empire waist they fell into the category of your first picture.

I refuse to retract my previous statement as I find both pictures to be unflattering, to say the least. But to each their own, I guess. I have never liked empire waste-lines and whenever I see them on someone who is in great shape I think "why on earth would they horribly disfigure themselves like that?" I think the same thing of Prince Alberts, too.

Dear Everybody Except Leinad In The Fashion Thread:

I am going to a wedding at the end of this month, and I am wearing a dark grey suit with a white shirt and a cream tie. Brown shoes/belt or black? (I'm thinking brown. Is there a protocol/rule for this sort of thing?)

So ordinarily I agree with all of you guys about empire waists. They are an affront to my sense of style.

For some reason, though, I tried this on in a store and liked it enough to buy it.

Question: I know my head is cut off, that's because I don't have a self-timer anymore, but what do you think of the shirt? Terrible/Wear it if nothing else is clean/It's Okay but not great/Pretty Good/Awesome Shirt?

I honestly can't tell, because it is still empire, but it is at least fitted...
