Yayyy Robbie for wearing a sweater. It would look better with dark jeans and a lighter shirt, I think, but it is a sweater.

This was a dark period in my life, when I would wear absolutely anything with absolutely anything else, because I was living in a country where everyone else did the same thing, and I just wanted to fit in. That's not an excuse, just a reason.

Man. "I miss Kieffer" seems to be a pretty common theme around here these days. Maybe if we all clap our hands and say "I believe in Kieffer." he can come back?

I grew up knowing that cardigans were worn by boring middle-aged men with pipes and carpet slippers, and swore I would never, ever wear one (and I haven't) - so I find it odd seeing young men wearing them now, though I'm beginning to get used to it.

Of the tops shown, I would wear the striped hoody and the blue sweater; the first jacket is meh, and I don't like the others.  Of course, whether you'd want to see me in them is quite another matter!

I think the closest thing I have to a sweater would be a few hockey jerseys. Hockey jerseys are close enough, right?

Man, I don't want to sound rude or anything but I find most of everyone's fashion choices really boring. Personally I prefer this kind of stuff

For Men

This - I own this

Or this - I want this.

This, but without the bondage straps

This

And these - I own these

For Ladies

This or this

this or this

and these

NB: I would have put pictures in thise post but I didn't want to make untoward sexual advances at your bandwith.

inspired by the greatcoat posted earlier, i have done a little search on ebay and found this:

should I buy it? it's only 20 euros!

It is a coat of the GDR navy with rank insignia of a Kapitän zur See (= Captain, OF-5)

I would have to see someone with an actual chest wear it instead of an anorexic man

Jesus fuck, as a natural skinny girl with no boobs (I look basically identical to that model's body shape really) I find that pretty fucking offensive.

anyway, Oh, hey Jimmy, hows it goin?

Do you feel less bored with the fashion thread now? Did I help?

Jimmy- Your style is very special, but I don't know how many people could actually pull it off. That is a polite way of saying I would not wear any of the things you posted.

Hipster Jesus- No. Just no.

Robbie- It's okay, we all make mistakes.

Dom- Yes.

Roxie- I love the pattern on the first dress, but the shape is pretty horrid. It would be a lot cuter if you had it tailored a bit or just belted it so you did not look like a box. Other than that I am not really a fan of the rest, as velour is most definitely not my fabric of choice. The last one isn't too bad but the spaghetti straps aren't that great. It would be totally cute as a strapless dress.

Jodie- You are my favorite.

I like Jimmy's fashion choices, though I don't see myself wearing any of those, aside from the priest coat and T-shirt from the second to last link. The boots look cool, but on myself, I prefer the genuine combat boots, rather than the heavily-buckled ones. At least those don't have three inches of studded sole, I don't like the impractically heavy boots, and if I wore them, I would probably hit my head on doorways around the house.

I think I want to find a new hat, I currently have almost constantly affixed to my head a mostly black flat cap, and I have a fedora that my grandmother bought for me, but I don't tend to wear the fedora unless I am dressing up, as it doesn't really look right with my normal clothes. I can't give pictures, as I still have no camera, but does anyone have favorite hats they want to recommend? I normally wear either this or something similar to this, and red-brown hair, if it makes a difference.

Ebony, you don't look unhealthily thin, that model does.

Look at her arm, that is what I noticed. I used to be underweight, my arm looked like that, so it looks like an underweight adolescent's arm. Not hugely underweight, so I guess not really unhealthily thin, but thinner than ideal.

I'm not digging the jacket because I prefer jackets with straight sleeves, I don't like the raglan thing it's doing. Other than that, you're getting closer. Basically, when I get dressed to go out somewhere (not to the office) I am thinking, what would I be wearing were this a post-apocalyptic/post zombie invasion film.

Jimmy, a guy I am kinda seeing dresses like you. He too, is awesome as fuck. I like dressing like that sometimes, but everybody gets weirded out when I do. I once wore fishnets to work, and my manager asked me when I turned goth.  :|

Roxie, I had a highly inappropiate joke all thought up, but I couldn't thinkof how to properly word it, and it was slightly creepy, but...

Roxie in her blue dress,

And Jodi, I may have mentioned this to you before but, you are pretty and awesome and I am jealous.

It is actually a pretty cool dress Roxie. Good for you.

Anyway, this is my newest clothing acquisition. Fashion Advice Thread, how rad is my jacket?

I think it is Pretty Rad.

Yeah, I am hoping to buy that coat during the goth festival this year when that store (which is basically around the corner from me) has huge sales. Otherwise it would basically be half my paycheque.

Liz, I bought it at an actual fashionable shop! The kind with fancy designer jeans and horrid, brightly coloured t-shirts with jarringly bright graphics on them. I was in there with my ladyfriend and I saw it and basically just went "SQUEEE!"

@ Ebony: I am sorry I offended you, but a girl that size really should not wear clothing that draws attention to the chest area in such a way, but wear clothing more like the stuff you posted. The way the fabric is cut it is a contrasting shape to the dress making even well-endowed women look smaller. You, on the other hand, posted perfect examples for your body type.

I would totally wear the priest coat that Jimmy posted. Or that blue sweater from earlier. Perhaps I'll post some of my sweaters and Jimmy-style-jackets later, I'm too drunk now. But I've totally loved these last to pages. It's so hard to find people seriosuly interested in mens' fashion, all my friends just dress practically (see: boring).

PS. Holy balls that priest coat is expensive though.

Awesome looking clothes Jimmy found.

These are all really cool, but they aren't the kind of clothes I can pull of. I'm kind of a primary colors type person, both in personality and what goes well with my natural coloration. I tend to dress rather conservatively, as is fitting me. I do wish I could pull off that second coat you linked to, though. It is an awesome coat.

If I can get ahold of a camera soon, I will show off my impressive collection of sweater vests.

The Sartorialist routinely turns up some pretty great stuff (for both sexes! I don't know where you'd get the idea that it's no good for ladies) but I think it's worth taking everything on there with a grain of salt. Essentially I find places like that useful for getting me thinking about cool combinations and ideas, or interesting and new ways to wear something I already have and just generally putting me in a more constructively critical mindset re: style/fashion. Also obviously everybody has a different body and sense of style and something that looks great on one person isn't necessarily universally great.

Also the Sartorialist likes those "formal" shorts (that kind of look like you've taken a pair of chinos and cut them off at the knee) too much and that shit is just dumb.

P.S; ZOMG want these shoes: http://www.gucci.com/us/us-english/us/fall-winter-08/mens-shoes/#0-464511-202729D3VA01066

I guess I just really dislike what is generally seen as fashionable. Honestly most clothes I see that other people seem to love so much (read: a lot of this thread) just doesn't appeal to my own sense of what looks good. Cardigans? Blech, if I want to dress like an old man I'll get a pair of slacks, a starched white shirt, a red cravat and a smoking jacket and then I'd wait until I get old. Shorts are equally worthy of disdain but that is because I am displeased with my knees. And colours! It honestly strikes me as undignified to dress like a summery flower. I have no idea why.

I don't know, I just like dark, heavy fabrics. Coats with deep, or at least lots of, pockets, heavy boots that look appropriate for kickng people through plate glass windows. I also like billowy and dramatic but it has to be just the right amount or it looks half-arsed or cheesy.

Hm. I'm generally mostly a fan of more simple shoes (well, mostly sneakers :p But I can appreciate others that I wouldn't necessarily wear myself), but I think I might not dislike them in navy. And from what I've seen of you, it looks like you can pull them off. They look hella uncomfortable, though, but I guess that's just me and my prejudice against non-sneakers.

That Sartorialist site was just... blech. Pretty much everything I saw on it just looked completely awful.

To me those shoes look like a bunch of scientists got together and tried to make the worst shoes physically possible.

To Jimmy, I think your gay cyborg vampire look is pretty awesome for the most part, a couple things you wear I just can't comprehend, but I love most of it. However, there is no way in hell I could pull that look off, and I think it's kind of limiting wearing black all the time.

Normz- I love shoes. I really do. I enjoy odd shoes on occasion as well, but those are just going a little too far. I would also like to see the navy pair for comparison, but I doubt I could ever justify spending $1000 on them.

Also, everyone- I looove The Sartorialist. That is probably how I would dress if I had a large quantity of disposable income.

All my outfits are really damage control because I have few clothes and a lot of them are really kinda eh. I put a bit of effort into trying to get them to work together because clothes shopping is pretty much my least favourite thing and buying new clothes scares me. I think I do pretty well with what I have.

To Jimmy, I think your gay cyborg vampire look is pretty awesome for the most part, a couple things you wear I just can't comprehend, but I love most of it. However, there is no way in hell I could pull that look off, and I think it's kind of limiting wearing black all the time.

I don't really find it that limiting because I try to mix different shades. I'm going to get blonde streaks in my hair at some point and I want to experiment with only wearing black and white. I don't find it limiting but maybe that's because I don't have any desire to dress any differently.

Man, I don't know what I'd do if I only wore black. I have a ton of clothes so maybe tonight I'll show you guys some of my favorite outfits.(I wish I had a decent place to put my camera so I could get timed full body shots.

Also, I think the most fashionably attractive man I ever saw was in an AA shop, he had a pair of tightISH bootleg fitted white pants, a red cardigan with black accents, a regular yellowish/brownish cotton tee, and a pair of shoes similar to the gucci ones posted earlier.

The best part is, this is how my dad dresses sometimes, and my dad is one of those gentleman that's very lean and very tall so it looks fabulous on him. He has better fashion sense than I do. Except for when he dresses like a dad. (sports sandals with socks and wind breaker wrapped around his waist. wtf?)

I think it's good to be fashionable, but to be oaky with being a mess.
