Violent Dove,
As a cravat enthusiast and member of the West Country Neckwear Club, I must inform you that it is dashed bad form to wear your cravat without it being twinned with a wingcollar shirt. Don't get me wrong, I think the jeans / three-piece uppers combination a very modern and entertaining idea. However, I insist that said jeans be tucked around the appropriate shirt. I am pernickety that way. That said, please do keep on holding up your standard of dress, as there are so few who attend the musical events and the rock and rolls these days dressed marvellously.

Adieu!

i hate your ironic hightop shoes

Who in the fuck wears high-tops ironically? You'd have to purposefully buy a bad pair and oh suddenly it is apparent, I think we have some of those.

That is a pretty wonderful outfit, Roddy. I was going to make a crack about auditioning to be the eleventh Doctor but then I realized that from the looks of it you would make a pretty goddamn awesome eleventh Doctor.

We all know David Tennant is the eleventh doctor.

He used his regenerative powers on his severed hand in order to keep his current form. Arguably, this means he is still the Tenth Doctor, he is just the Tenth Doctor twice.

T-shirts and cardigans and a flat cap. It's my signature fall look.

(Going to California for a week in October is going to screw me all up)

I've decided I'm going to try and look like Roddy and Violent Dove (I don't remember your name, apologies) this fall.

Also like Shane I will be rocking my new flat cap. Those things are excellent.

Someone before was asking about the sheerness of the American Apparel jersey. I bought a black top last week that was advertised as 'sheer' and I was all "pah how could a t-shirt be sheer" but honestly, you are going to need to wear a vest or tank top or something underneath it because hello, undergarments.

ViolentDove, I echo most everyone here when I say you look great! I am kinda regretting not being able to hang out with you. We should hang out! (Woo!)

Also this week might possibly the week of BUYING NEW CLOTHING because a) now that I don't need to wear all black to work my wardrobe is sorely limited and b) I found some photos from like 4 years ago and I am still wearing the same jeans, jacket and shoes.

So I finally found a pair of skinny/boot jeans that I like, as well as a pair of 'pilgrim' type boots that I am super fond of.

For fall I have a bright red james dean jacket that I plan on wearing the shit out of, along with all my poor boy hats and my flat caps and scarves, fall is my favorite fashion season so I am excited.

Also, I am far too lazy to take pictures of all the funny outfits I have that I want to show you guys, you should all come over to my house instead.

How fashionably bad would it be to just wear a Judo gi when I go to Iowa in two weeks?
I assume it will be colder there because I weigh all of 125 pounds and I am from Arizona. Judo gi's are very warm and I look pretty cool in one.

You're going to Iowa? It'll be plenty warm there. I'm in Wisconsin and it's in the upper 80's every day. You really won't need one, even if you're used to 100 degree weather. Leave it at home.

I like P.A. but if you're going to get a new hoodie from the Internet why not go for something like Oddica or Naive Clothing. They're much, much nicer.

sooo what are you planning on looking like this fall/winter?

OK so it's going to be spring/summer here in the sexy southern hemisphere but I'm planning on going for a lot of collared shirts, mostly work shirts and nice flannel shirts(stussy make this incredible dip dyed flannel shirt that's like $100 which is way more than I ever thought I'd pay for a fuckin' flannel shirt but hey I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get it) and polos along with a more relaxed-fit jean. Also, hell of hats (I'm in the market for a nice straw fedora).

Honestly, I was going to come here and ask where to go to look online for clothes. I have never had to buy clothes ever before outside of Wal Mart, but I want to actually start looking nice so I can go on dates and actually have girls be attracted to me. Thanks for the links. I just thought the Luminious Vestments was funny.

Jimmy, go to any "outdoorsy" shops. You know, the type that sell climbing gear, kayaks, such and such. They usually have cold weather gear and skiing things as well. Burton Snowboards do pretty cool stuff.

Actually, now I think about it, I imagine they'd be more prevalent in Sydney, what with the fact that NSW actually has snow.

Jimmy, to protect your badass quotient, I suggest something different than a parka, just about nobody can look badass in a parka. How cold does it get in oz in the winter? What works for someone used to degrees in the Fahrenheit teens during the winter wouldn't work for someone who isn't used to it going below freezing.

The winter that basically just finished (first day of Spring, woo!) has been one of the coldest winters we've ever had I think. During the day I don't think it dropped below 5 Celcius but at night it got cold enough for cars to frost over a little (which was kind of cool actually). Basically I would usually be wearing boots, jeans, a longsleeve t-shirt under a short sleeved t-shirt, a hoodie and a leather jacket (either a trench coat or just a plain jacket). I'd also wear gloves and a scarf. I haven't experienced sub-zero temperatures for about 10 years so I really don't remember how to deal with it.

Geez... that is warm for winter. When are you going to Boston? I don't think you would need a parka unless it gets way below freezing, multiple layers warm better than one layer, and you can take off just one layer if you get too warm. When it gets cold, I wear my duster and a fleece-lined jacket, fleece warms really well, I would say it insulates about twice as well as an equally thick cotton layer.

I bought yet another thing I should not have spent money on, but it was totally and utterly worth it.

The one I wanted originally was in the same booth and leather, cut straight across the top, and studded with rivets and D-rings. The woman got me half laced in and then turned me around and was like, "oh my goodness, you can't wear this one. This is for women who are not as booby as you. You know, sticks. And you, my dear, are most certainly not a stick. Let's try you in this other one."

(boob roll in the photo is from twisting funny to get a good angle with my phone.)

I couldn't even get it laced down to anything decent, because I did it myself. The woman who fit me got it perfect, and I think I had an inch of space left in the back. That picture was when it was probably around 2 or so. I will have to figure out better ways to lace it myself when I get it back from my friend's apartment tomorrow. Stupid elbows won't bend the right way, see.

I need a new pair of tight-fitting jeans. I don't mean like leg huggers, or anything of the like. Just very slim pants, BDGs Men's skinny jeans are just too tight, and just aren't working out for me.

I need to get a new pair of fatigue pants. Maybe when I have a bit more money I can take a trip to the Army Surplus store and buy a few pairs. Those things are hell of comfy and have all the pockets you will ever need.

If you want the most comfortable fatigues ever, look up 5.11 tactical pants. Even more useful pockets, more comfort, and basically they are everything proof.

They are for when you are making short term plans.

Seriously though, I like fatigues because they are practical and all (also they look rad when you tuck them into your boots) but I will never wear tactical pants. Seriously, they are dogshit.

The moral of this thread is that you shouldn't take fashion advice from people with snakebites.

It wasn't fashion advice.

Then again I suppose we should take fashion advice from someone who wears fatigues, and combat boots for fashion.

Man-purse?

Anyways, so I have a wedding coming up, and despite how much I want to live my fantasy of wearing a suit everyday. I currently don't have the money to buy a suit, just a dress shirt, dress pants, and tie.

I was trying to think of some good color schemes for the three, but alas I am coming up blank. I was thinking black shirt, black pants, white tie. I am not sure if it would look suave, or extremely stupid.

Opinions?

No that would be stupid, so stupid. Particularly at a wedding.

Think understated, particularly in terms of the main parts of your outfit. Wear a white or light blue shirt, and grey or otherwise light coloured pants, and make a statement with your tie, be it through colour or pattern.

Also, have you tried going to op-shops for a suit? It's really not that hard to find something nice for an absolute bargain.

Also, white ties tend to be worn by the groom/groomsmen, so they're definitely a no-go. It's like a girl wearing a white dress to someone else's wedding.

Thanks for the advice I haven't been to a wedding in a long time (I tend to go to more funerals, then weddings).

So wedding-dress etiquette is not something that I am well aware of. I have no idea what an op-shop is, do you mean thrift store?

That watch is very classy. I actually want to get a nice watch myself to wear when I dress up. Its so unclassy to take out your cell phone when someone asks you the time.

Anyways, I bought a two shirts and a hoodie from oddica and I'm going to take $175 out of my next paycheck (in 3ish days) to go get some new clothes so I can actually look nice. I'm in Glendale, Arizona, what are the good shops to find a couple nice pairs of jeans and some good t-shirts.

Up until now I've only ever shopped at concerts for shirts and at wal mart for pants and shorts (shorts that I'm not wearing unless going swimming).

Good advice, but I would add that depending on when the wedding is and how formal it is, it might be better to go with black or dark, dark grey pants instead of a lighter grey. Light grey looks good, but for certain weddings, it wouldn't be quite right. At least that's the norm here, if it's a somewhat formal wedding. But then again, to a somewhat formal wedding, a suit would be recommended. Borrowing one from a friend or finding something in a thrift store could work.

Plus, I think black pants, white shirt and a (narrow) black tie looks way better than black pants, black shirt and white tie, mostly because the latter reminds me of The Hives and this douchebag I know of, who would top off the outfit with fugly black and white shoes.
