They can make girls asses look good, but make legs look stumpy. However, knee length is totally acceptable.

I can't wear three-quarter trousers or anything that doesn't reach my ankles, because I am rather short. I guess I could wear super short shorts but then everyone would see how icky my legs are once you get above the knee, so I just stick to jeans and long skirts. My mother refuses to listen when I tell her that her capris make her look even smaller than she really is.

Katie, I'd love to wear a leather jacket with the skirt and actually it'd look quite good on someone else, but anyone who has met me in real life will be able to attest that I am sadly not a leather jacket person. Too baby-faced and nothing like hard-core enough. I will, however, think about a bright coloured shirt and some kind of dark jacket that isn't a suit jacket. That's a good idea I hadn't thought of, I don't need to look supersmart for an interview at Sainsbury's or whatever.

I saw a guy wearing camo cutoff manpris. I think they were originally normal pants that were too small for the guy that was wearing them. The edges were really ragged, though, think like shipwrecked guy clothes.

Who wears any shorts longer than knee length these days anyway? And 3/4 pants, I don't think I've seen a pair of those for at least three years.

Capris make me cry... they can be on the hottest woman alive and I would still be averse to looking at her.

So, ladies, if you are ever wearing capris, and you see me holding my hand in such a way as to block your legs from my view, you will know that I think you look amazing, but the capris need to go.

My mom actually had pretty good taste when it came to shirts, but her taste in pants was horrible. In middle school she once got me plaid shorts. wtf, that is such a corny bad fashion stereotype that it actually loops around to being hip in an ironic way.

Cardigans are a spectacular building block for an outfit. They're useful as a classy touch for a more formal outfit on a cold day over a dress shirt and tie, since the buttons add a wonderful element of class missing from the traditional sweater. In addition, a bulkier cardigan as outerwear is incredibly useful if you want to add an element of contrast to your silhouette, paired with more slim fitting pants and a closer fitting shirt.

Shorts were very hard for me to come to terms with. Cargo shorts are hideous, there is no two ways about that. Recently however, I've been experimenting with more slim fitting and dressy shorts, and it makes them much more workable. At or shortly above the knee, paired with, again, a nice dress shirt and slim fitting cardigan. They can look really elegant without being ostentatious, and can be really great in many ways. Also, a friend of mine has been cutting off skinny jeans shortly below the knee and cuffing them so they aren't all scruffy and they look great, far better than I ever realized denim shorts could look.

i have been rolling my jeans up highwater style for the past 1/2 month

I've been doing similar; not highwater style, but just enough so there's no break (or a very slight one) in the front. It's so classy with a nice pair of dress slacks-slim but not tight, with a laceless simple shoe.

EDIT: I also want to state my opinion that silhouette is the most important part of dressing.

Yessss.

I've always found that when examining myself in a mirror before going out, I look better from the side than from the front or back. This may be because I'm slightly uncomfortable with my thighs being a little thicker than I'd like, or maybe not. I don't know.

Silhouette is most important. That is why I prefer structured garments like corsets and military jackets and, yes, climbing pants to things like jogging suits and cardigans. It is a fine line to walk between comfort and an acceptable silhouette.

I gotta say I am a fan of my cardigans. I'm slightly too busty for spaghetti strap tops to not look slutty, so cardigans give me options! Plus I get cute ones so there:P

I must jump on the wagon of loving structured garments, military jackets are always great, tailored suits, close fitting sweaters. But I also love looser fitting clothing when worn properly.

I want to see some of these military jackets, curious as to various people's definitions.

In my world, cardigans=fitted

And military=large/shapeless

That cardigan comes nowhere close to my definition of fitted. It's hanging loosely off your shoulders! Not fitted. There are fitted cardigans, and they are the only type of cardigans that I think look remotely nice, and they only work on certain people. And that jacket appears several sizes to large for you, so it also does make the fitted category. And it's hard to find a military jacket fitted for women, because most are designed for men.

Here's some of the jackets that I'm talking about:

These ones are a little looser but still relatively fitted.

The there's also things like this, which fall into the realm of military jacket and are lovely, but certainly aren't fitted.

I have found a top to go with my new skirt! Which is lucky because I need it on Wednesday for a job interview. I have to dress "business casual" and realised that although I have a pair of smart black shoes, my only smart trousers are brown. Therefore the olive skirt is being pressed into service alongside a white pinstripe blouse with a black jumper. Actually it is cheating since the blouse and jumper are the same garment, but I feel that this fulfills the "casual" requirement quite well.

Red, I always have the problem with spaghetti straps too. I just slut it up mostly, I don't have any cardigans. And I gave up on all hope of my silhouette many years ago, because unless I put on at least a stone round my hips (which I would rather not do really) I will always be top heavy and I will always be short.

Well, those jackets are excellent. I was kind of stuck on this one type of cavalry coat that really only looks good on really skinny dudes because they tend to be double breasted. It is very difficult, as was stated above, to find decent military styles for ladies.

Like this; disregard the dude. I might wear this jacket, but I don't think I would look good with blue hair.

Also I stumbled across these, and I am pretty sure they are pretty much what my climbing pants look like, except mine are black, and without the cuff thing at the bottom (mine just stop at the tie).

Well, yeah, but that site had 60 pages of coats. I didn't feel like finding precisely what I mean on page 47 or 51 or whatever. That is close enough. So imagine something like that without the extra fabric that is folded under the belt and stuff.

I count it as fitted because it fits closely on the arms and when buttoned, it is figure forming, not loose. The jacket is large, but essentially the exact same cut as those you posted, just on a girl *shrug*

I bought a pair of red/black/rust/blood/whatever colored jeans without trying them on.  Today I shaved my head (which I do every 3 months or so, whenever my hair gets long enough to start looking dodgy).  I tried the jeans on to discover that they are rude boy cut.  I wear high combat boots.

People are going to think I'm a fucking skinhead.  And I mean people who don't know that punk/oi skinheads are traditionally non-racist.

Maybe I should take them back, but I like the color so much.

Yeah, I have five pairs of shoes. Which I think is a pretty good number. I have two pairs of nice/dress shoes (brown and black), two pairs of tennis shoes (one for wearing day to day and the other for when I'm actually doing something active), a pair of sandals (flip/flops) because they are comfortable and easy to slip on and off. You can get away with just the dress shoes, if you're never planning on ever doing anything active.

Even I have several pairs of shoes. Granted they are mostly boots but I have dressy boots, boots for walking, boots for going to gigs, boots for playing gigs, boots for casual days. Footwear is important, people may not notice that I wear the same pair of jeans every day but sooner or later they'll notice my shoes.

For formal occasions you just polish the boots.

I know how you feel, zerodrone. About a year ago now I shaved my head because of a terrible haircut. I'd taken to wearing my boots, boot cut jeans, and vests at the time.

i have a fair amount of shoes these days but i just wear my velcro Vans and my chukka boot Vans.

Generally in the morning I'm too lazy to tie shoes, so I've been wearing my slip-on Vans a lot.

Question: Khaki pants on guys?
I've got a really nice pair of dickies that I wear for work, but honestly they're just khaki pants. I'm just curious if I should wear them outside of work.
