Guys I went out and bought new fashions today!

Some Levi's 407s (slim boot cut) in two different shades of dark blue and an awesome black pea coat.

I tried camwhoring but I am terrible at it so you'll just have to wait 'till someone photographs me wearing these things!

For those of you who know how I typically dress this is a big deal because I finally ditched the skinny jeans and am trying to dress more classy.

Huh. I honestly didn't think that several slightly blurry, silly phtoos would be so well received, but thank you.

Est, it's actually, silly, I just got it a Kohl's, it's not even anything fancy I was just there because they have cheap decent ties.

It was just really good timing.  I really want some new t-shirts that are casual yet semi-fancy and that one kind of fits the bill and is reminding me that I should go out shopping or something soonish.

Jordan: The coat in the first picture looks really rad, I'd like to see photos of just that. The scarf is sort of way too huge though, I dunno if you can wear it with that coat, it takes the sort of classy look you have going and turns it into kid going through his parents closet.

I really like the orange shirt, I have one almost the exact same color that I love dearly. The maroon one is awesome too, even if I am immediately wary of shiny fabrics. Only comment is maybe look for something that fits you a little better in the future, there is a lot of extra fabric on your arm in that one picture, and I don't think you need that.

However, those ties are terrible, man. Like, god-awful. I would be willing to look at more detailed pictures and potentially change my mind, but for my taste at least, you need a little less flash in your tie when you're wearing a shirt that bright. Hell, I'd do a little less flash in my tie generally, but that's just me. Plus, they both look kind of awkwardly wide, but maybe that's just my knot.

I like the T-shirt too, but please do not wear long sleeves under T-shirts. It is a look that is not a good look, my friend.

Are the pants new too?

Hey guys as I started describing above, I'm attempting to mature my style a little.

Next up is replacing almost daily T-shirt + hoodie combos with some casual button downs. What kind of shirts are good for this? Bright ones like Jordan is wearing? Flannel that isn't terribly gaudy? Or something more subtle like browns, dark blues, blacks?

Also, I kind of like the look the guy on the left has going. Fancy white dress shirt with some form fitting (or in his case skinny) jeans. Is this good or bad?

Oh, yeah, the scarf is practically comically oversized, but I mean...the scarf was never intended to be a fashion satement, just a statement of "I have a Doctor Who scarf". It's just me being a nerd.

The second tie isn't as flashy in natural light as it looks in that picture, the gold bits just caught a lot of the flash from my camera. I don't actually particularly like the first tie, but it actually came with the shirt and I dig orange shirts, so whatever. I'll wear a black tie or something. (I am woefully understocked on ties)

All of the pants are new, but I couldn't really get a decent detail picture of them.

Do not wear a bandana and have fitted but not slim/skinny jeans. You'll be ok like that.

Also, I wear long sleeved shirts under t-shirts. Sometimes.

Yeah, same here, sometimes. Mostly because I like my t-shirts, but it is cold here most of the year. It doesn't make me look very "adult" or really do anything for my appearance, but I kinda like it anyways, even though I know lots of people hate the look.

Also, I agree with pretty much everything Animal Ghosts said about Ozy's new clothes, I think. I'm a fan of ties that are a bit skinnier.

Depends on the context. If you are wearing a shirt with jeans, then hell no, they don't. They also don't if you aren't wearing a belt.

The shirt with skinny/semi fitted jeans look can work well, provided the shirt is well fitted (not like in that picture). Also, sleeves that are well rolled up look good with that style (once again, provided they are well rolled up. Not scrunched like in that picture).

I would wear a button-up shirt outside of my pants, but then again, I would only wear it like that if it was being used like a jacket, I have this odd thing where I feel just about naked without a jacket layer, but during the summer, even a light denim-ish layer is too heavy. If I were actually wearing it to look formal-ish, I would be wearing a belt, and have it tucked in.

Yeah, I just can't get onboard the "shirts always get tucked in" train either.  A few of my friends would tuck t-shirts into jeans with or without belts and I always thought it made them look pretty ridiculous.  The only shirts I tuck in are business shirts and dress shirts for formal occasions.

NO way! I love those boots. I am a fan of men who wear pointy toed boots, much like those. I think the white dress shirt, skinny jean look can never go wrong. I think how you express yourself with a simple outfit like that is totally with your choice of footwear.

Personally, I have recently started to like keeping my outfits really simple (ie. Plain shirt, in various colours, slim boot/skinny jeans, but then punch it up with different, perhaps colourful, shoes). I also like scarves and hats to give the combo a little more depth and personality. Unfortunately, since winter has arrived in Canada, I have started layering like a mofo again. I badly need to buy another blazer.

Opinion: Unless you're dressing formally, tucked-in shirts tend to look silly. It's passable as long as you're wearing a belt and not jeans, but.

I used to have a professor (I know there is enough questionable professor fashion to start a new thread about it) who wore denim every single day.  Jeans, shirts, you name it, but he would never wear more than one article of clothing.  He would always tuck his shirts in, and more often than not, it was jeans pants that he was sticking them in.  I mean, usually I would oppose this, but there was a certain formality (dude is in a position of authority) and also he had a lovely bottom.

Is this a foil?

Necessarily do that. I can't even imagine a situation where a dude does that and doesn't look like a middle aged IT professional.

Like, I'm trying to imagine a sexy dude like Anderson Cooper doing it and all I want to do is ask him why he hasn't updated Firefox to 3.0 on all of the computers and have him sigh as he explains that the company requires certain plugins for security that haven't been updated yet.

That guy in the white dress shirt and jeans has kind of a whack profile, he either needs a slimmer fit shirt or baggier jeans. The boots are, in fact, steezy.

I wear dress shirts tucked into jeans all the time, and look damn good doing it, but then again my jeans are really nice. They can be worn tucked or untucked, though, but if you tuck in your shirt w/o a belt you're an idiot.

Shirt, jeans, tucked in, no belt, IT professional; me backstage during an opera production in 1989.  I look worn out and pissed off as well - but you'd be as well if you were in the middle of a radio-therapy course while still working and running an opera group.

I don't own any kind of formal trousers so I tend to wear dress/business shirts tucked into black jeans. I do of course wear a belt but the effect is often ruined slightly by my habit of wearing X-Men, Punisher, Batman and skull belt buckles.

Okay, I went out and bought myself some wrap around skirts. One of them is knee length and one is ankle length. They are pretty and flowy and they seem to warrant some kind of nice footwear. What shoes do you where with these types of skirts? They are kind of hippyish but I just cannot bring myself to wear normal rubber thongs. It just doesn't seem right.

I am confused.

People also wear capris, or denim shorts. Or 'gangsta' clothes that hang down to their knees.

All widely recognized as horrible clothing choices.

http://www.treeoflife.com.au/Catalogue/Pants/handkerchief-skirt (this isn't exactly what I got, but you can get the idea, same style and shape)

I've seen those types of things worn with flat leather sandals with thin straps. Kinda like these shoes? Not quite gladiator but in that direction. None of those have the details I like but they are the type at least.

The boots are, in fact, steezy.

I disagree. He is trying SO hard to make the boots work, and instead he looks like some toolbag kid from upstate New York who wants to move to LA and "make it big".

also, related to burning stuff: a friend threw up on a hot water heater once, the vomit steam burned her face. awesome!

The boots, not the douchebag wearing them. I would wear those shoes, is what I am saying.

Also, I own and love a pair of uggs. They are probably the third pair I've had, got my first when I was about 4. They're a completely viable cold weather/post beach shoe.

Argh, fashion complaint. It is even more impossible than usual to find decent looking jeans when you are short (a little over 5'3") and sort of fat right now! Practically all jeans either look like tights or they are so flared (and looong) that I look like I am drowning in a sea of denim. Neither of those alternatives look even remotely good.

Mari I know how you feel. I can never find jeans that fit well in stores. I always have to settle for some that are just okay and it is just silly.

ladies's uggs, admittedly, are awful. however, recently my housemate bought a pair of men's uggs and i have to admit they fucking rock. for some reason i wasn't aware men's uggs even existed until now. they are by far the warmest, most comfortable boots i have ever tried on. i've actually been considering buying a pair because i don't have any winter boots and they are looking like the best candidate.
