Necessarily do that. I can't even imagine a situation where a dude does that and doesn't look like a middle aged IT professional.

Like, I'm trying to imagine a sexy dude like Anderson Cooper doing it and all I want to do is ask him why he hasn't updated Firefox to 3.0 on all of the computers and have him sigh as he explains that the company requires certain plugins for security that haven't been updated yet.

He does it by having the bottom of a Greek God, but more supple, and having jeans that are slightly too tight.

I bought a hat because it's been cold lately. It is so warm!

It is like the Coens can make a sequel to Fargo and call it Moorhead, only with an ice auger.

Ooh, can I be in it too? I will totally buy a hat like that if that is the case.

That guy in the white dress shirt and jeans has kind of a whack profile, he either needs a slimmer fit shirt or baggier jeans. The boots are, in fact, steezy.

I wear dress shirts tucked into jeans all the time, and look damn good doing it, but then again my jeans are really nice. They can be worn tucked or untucked, though, but if you tuck in your shirt w/o a belt you're an idiot.

Shirt, jeans, tucked in, no belt, IT professional; me backstage during an opera production in 1989.  I look worn out and pissed off as well - but you'd be as well if you were in the middle of a radio-therapy course while still working and running an opera group.

I don't own any kind of formal trousers so I tend to wear dress/business shirts tucked into black jeans. I do of course wear a belt but the effect is often ruined slightly by my habit of wearing X-Men, Punisher, Batman and skull belt buckles.

Okay, I went out and bought myself some wrap around skirts. One of them is knee length and one is ankle length. They are pretty and flowy and they seem to warrant some kind of nice footwear. What shoes do you where with these types of skirts? They are kind of hippyish but I just cannot bring myself to wear normal rubber thongs. It just doesn't seem right.

I am confused.

Here are the links to the skirts I bought:

People also wear capris, or denim shorts. Or 'gangsta' clothes that hang down to their knees.

All widely recognized as horrible clothing choices.

I have no problem with capris. Depends more on the rest of the accompanying style. Denim shorts can look good.

I've seen those types of things worn with flat leather sandals with thin straps. Kinda like these shoes? Not quite gladiator but in that direction. None of those have the details I like but they are the type at least.

The boots, not the douchebag wearing them. I would wear those shoes, is what I am saying.

Also, I own and love a pair of uggs. They are probably the third pair I've had, got my first when I was about 4. They're a completely viable cold weather/post beach shoe.

Argh, fashion complaint. It is even more impossible than usual to find decent looking jeans when you are short (a little over 5'3") and sort of fat right now! Practically all jeans either look like tights or they are so flared (and looong) that I look like I am drowning in a sea of denim. Neither of those alternatives look even remotely good.

ladies's uggs, admittedly, are awful. however, recently my housemate bought a pair of men's uggs and i have to admit they fucking rock. for some reason i wasn't aware men's uggs even existed until now. they are by far the warmest, most comfortable boots i have ever tried on. i've actually been considering buying a pair because i don't have any winter boots and they are looking like the best candidate.

Uggs are like slippers, but warm.  I would wear them out to buy a paper or some milk maybe, but for the most part they are comfortable inside shoes.

I think we've had this conversation before because I'm getting dej v typing this but anyhoo:

I find myself disagreeing with what The Sartorialist thinks is good probably half of the time but I've definitely learned a lot about putting together men's clothing from there, particularly when it comes to all those little details that really make a guy's outfit pop (oh man pocket squares).

The Sartorialist routinely turns up some pretty great stuff (for both sexes! I don't know where you'd get the idea that it's no good for ladies) but I think it's worth taking everything on there with a grain of salt. Essentially I find places like that useful for getting me thinking about cool combinations and ideas, or interesting and new ways to wear something I already have and just generally putting me in a more constructively critical mindset re: style/fashion. Also obviously everybody has a different body and sense of style and something that looks great on one person isn't necessarily universally great.

Also the Sartorialist likes those "formal" shorts (that kind of look like you've taken a pair of chinos and cut them off at the knee) too much and that shit is just dumb.

P.S; ZOMG want these shoes: http://www.gucci.com/us/us-english/us/fall-winter-08/mens-shoes/#0-464511-202729D3VA01066

thisssss.
uggs do not look good with jeans, with sweatpants or with skirts and leggings. they may be comfortable (i wouldn't know personally) but...there is always a more attractive/practical alternative to uggs.

Jodie the rockabilly look suits you so well, seriously.

Manda, that new top you got has kimono-style sleeves, in case you were wondering or care.

Someone asking about vests a few pages ago: I personally prefer vests for suits because it makes it look a little classier to me, and maybe a little more like a throwback or a nod to some vintage fashions that shouldn't have died out. Also with a tuxedo I prefer vests because I always look at dudes wearing cummerbunds and think "I wonder what instrument they play in the orchestra". Same goes with bow ties versus ascots and cravats.

Also it is good to know via the Satorialist that people in Rio value such quality details as the French Cuff. Also that their women have excellent taste in shoes, and that some women in Moscow get into fights with their sewing machines and lose.

I've worn black to weddings and dressed it up with some coloured jewelry. Why? Because I couldn't find anything else that looked decent that WASN'T black. My grandma nearly had a heartattack about it, but no one really cared. I mean, it's just tradition. I've seen people wear black, red and white to weddings, but if you know the bride's dress is going to be white, don't wear all white. I am sure there were people at my mum's wedding who wore white, but her wedding dress was green, so it didn't matter.

I think it is mainly tradition, but I see no reason why you shouldn't wear black. Just dress it up with some coloured jewelry or something.
