I would like some advice about shoes. I'm sick of wearing only Asics. Basically, I am sick of wearing running shoes but I don't really want to start wearing shoes that are all that dressy either. I have been considering picking up a pair of moccasins recently. Not actual moccasins, but some moccasin-cut loafer thingies. I think I would go with something like this but I am open to suggestions, especially if someone knows a place that isn't lame like SoftMoc kinda is.

Good idea/bad idea?

Mocassins

I'm not a fan. Would you wear these just around the house? Or would this be an all the time thing?

EDIT: same goes for these mudflap things referred to below.

go for it. The only downside I've found to the soft moccasins is that when you wear them out in the winter and get them all wet and salty they tend to dry in shapes not contusive to putting a human foot in them. I liked the ones I had/still have, but they had leather soles and I wore holes through them walking around campus. If Mudflaps were still in business I would suggest them, I wore them for a symester to do something different.

I like those boots, I wouldn't wear them, especially not with platform soles, but I like them. Platform soles don't work for me, I would come a bit too close to hitting my head walking around my room. And I think that the more plain, less metal trim look goes better with the OD, camo, and brown clothes I tend to wear.

Have you had a pair of the first ones you posted? Red isn't my color, but those black ones look nice, are they comfortable and/or durable?

And yes, I am a metalhead.

Actually I own all those boots. I just couldn't be bothered to actually take pictures of me in them because the New Rocks take about 5 minutes to put on, and the Demonia Riot Boots (the really high ones) take about 15 minutes to put on because I have to unlace them to get my foot in. I usually only wear those for going out to goth clubs, special occasions and playing gigs with my band.

The first ones I posted I've had for about two years maybe? I wear them a couple of times a week and they are really comfortable and I think the only damage they have taken in that time is that the little metal tag on the sole of the boot got torn off when I stepped awkwardly onto the curb. Probably the best thing about them is that the look good basically with anything (i usually tuck my trousers into them but I don't have any fatigue pants anymore so I've stopped doing that) and they are reasonably waterproof.

Kief, I think you and I are going to have to come to the realisation that we will never like the same things. Part of my mind just went insane with rage when you said that people should choose to wear things that are "in" rather than wear what they like. I mean, I know I don't understand or appreciate fashion the way you do but that kind of thinking makes me uncomfortable? I don't know. I know I took shots at Dovey and Sam's (nasty) shoes but still, it's their choice to look like clowns, much like it's my choice to look like a gay, cyborg-vampire. At least I don't sparkle.

Thanks, jimmy. I think when I start going to shows regularly and dressing up for them, I might get some of those 10-hole demonias, they look not too fancy without looking plain. That last sentence made me actually laugh out loud, jabs at twilight never get old.

Yeah, I'm not feeling the peacock things either. But I really love that second bathing suit, and that first dress has a lot of potential, what would you wear with it?

The first dress would actually look super fab with the peacock tights, that failing I would probably opt for either black or dark navy tights with a really bright 'pop' heel in either the orange or the green of the buttons.

I am also completely obsessed with peacocks. And owls.  And birds. Oh god I love peacock themed things(especially my hangy peacock feather earrings)

Hurr, but seriously...

I've been wondering maybe if I should buy some shoes, I've got generic vans skate shoes (the big thick style), but I think maybe black slip ons would be fine? Then I could also wear them for work.

My problem is I am hella cheap, and I don't know if I'd wear it all that often. I may buy it and wear it for New Years.

This is why when people wore moccasins and it was not a fashion choice, they would just go out and kill something else to make more shoes from it. So uh go hunting, I guess.

Jimmy I gotta say dogg I am actually with you on the highlighter coloured shoes. Confused?

Here's the thing, you picked the wrong two pairs of shoes to criticise. Did you check out the sneaker blog I linked a while back? Here's the most demonstrative pair in my opinion:

If you like those you are fucking retarded. Full stop.

Compare those with Sam's forest green and white numbers or my dark purple and black kicks and all of a sudden we are a lot less flamboyant than you think. Also maybe I should take a picture of me with them on, because when I wear jeans with them they almost completely cover them anyway, and most of what you can see is black.

They can't be that flamboyant, I wore them all weekend and nobody said a thing. Either that or people are just used to my fashion sense by now.

I think you probably shut the door on this when you mentioned that you'll never really understand our viewpoint and we'll never really get yours. But you may want to consider moving out of that glass house.

Jeans, I vote boots. If you get ones from a surplus store, walk in them a while to make sure they don't rub at all, and you might get new insoles, since they aren't the most comfortable normally. You can get them much cheaper than they would be otherwise, though.

Doc Martens are supposed to be more comfortable than normal boots, but I think the comparison was with hobnail boots, they weren't any more comfortable than my Rocky boots were previous to adding insoles.

DOVEY:

I love your pumas. I actually wanted to get those exact ones, but as hightops. I was never able to find them though and the ones that come in green only come as small as a size bigger than my actual shoe size :( I think we have similar shoe tastes, hehe. High fives!

And Sam, I like yr kicks, but whenever I try Nikes on like that they always fit so uncomfortabley for me around the ankle.

Yeah Jens, maybe it would be a good idea to try a store that sells actual work boots because they are made for durability and comfort for the Long Haul. A lot of people had Red Wings at the factory I worked at, though different ones than you'd want to buy since they were steel toe and had metatarsal guards, which were ugly. Carhartt was another brand I'd recommend just for durability and shit. I think I tried to convince someone last year to buy a Carhartt jacket cuz they are basically the best.

G-talk aside, I like your earlier outfit posted. The blue sweater and plum-colored tights look nice. I tend to like skirts better than dresses, but that's mostly because dresses are generally too short on me.
