I think the jeans with tights could look really good but I would go for a more subdued colour like a dark purple or blue. On that note, what do you think of black tights or leggins or whatever that are mid-calf length, worn with a short denim skirt?

I do that, but it's because it helps make my legs look more slender. But I don't know what your legs look like and I do it because I have fleshy legs. Also, I don't really wear any other colors than brown or black. Try it out and see!

It's pretty deep into "only on an attractive people" and "only in spite of" territory.

I mean, if you have fantastic legs and great curves, tights and a denim skirt will look great on you. But you will still look absolutely stupid.

Naw, this can look pretty cute, especially with some sexy boots.

No uggs with this fat.

I have very long and slender legs. They basically look like bean poles. I guess I'll have to try it in a shop.

Hey fasshin' thread, I need your help.

I bought these khaki shorts today, but I am not really a shorts person aside from exercising and camping because I get really self conscious about my thighs when I sit down in shorts. I am working on not being stupid and wearing them anyway, but I'm having trouble finding ones that fit my body well.

Do they look really stupid being this long?

They have little tab thingies to button them up shorter but I'm pretty sure it looks even dumber that way. I'm getting pretty discouraged and will probably spent the whole summer in jeans and skirts again.

i think they look really cute. They're not too long, or short and being khaki, they don't scream for attention so there's no need to be self-conscious about your legs in them.

In regards to denim skirt/leggings combo, i'm actually in favour of it... Meaning, they look okay on me, and most of my friends who wear them. I'd post a photo, but there aren't any that support my cause, because i'm dancing in all of them and pulling stupid faces.

I really like the shorts. I personally never wear them because I get cold really, really easily. It might be 90 degrees outside, but I know as soon as I step foot in air conditioning my legs are going to freeze...So I stick with my pants. Except when doing joggy things.

That's been my general mindset, I'm trying to branch out though!

Krina, I really dislike the calf leggings+denim skirt combo, but mostly because I associate it with sorority sluts and uggs and northface jackets:/

I like denim skirts with tights, and wear them quite a bit because most days it's too cold to wear knee socks.

I think they look fine. I'm not a fan of the stupidly short shorts anyway, largely because of the "stupidly", and those ones look like a good length. (I assume your knees are just out of the frame.)

Manda can we see them with them shortened? I like drawstring shorts and I'm curious

Also I don't have a camera cable so I can't show the ridiculous outfit I wore today. sad.

Yeah, my initial reaction was that they weren't that long at all. I mean, they look like standard shorts length.

I bought a dress! (The tights and shoes are part of what I wore to work today.)

Yay dress! That is one of the few ways where I approve of the leggings look:)

This is with the rolly-up things buttoned. The length is more like most other available shorts when its like this, but I think it looks sort of awkward and safari

I went to Goodwill the other day and tried on dresses, for no other reason than it sounded like fun. Sorry for the photo-dump. Disregard my wild hair.

Notes on these:
1st: As you can see, there is a reason I don't wear skirts that short.
2nd: This one was supposed to lace up in the back, but I was just holding it together.
3rd: I've been told my entire life that I can't wear green. I only tried this one because my boyfriend insisted.

Then I bought a red top and a button-up shirt for a total of US$8:

In the case of the blue shirt, that was me getting some real grown-up clothes. So one question remains: when wearing this shirt for some occasion when I need to look decent/professional, how do I keep from looking like a boy?

I like when people make their pictures fit nicely into one post, that effort is appreciated, but if you just resize them with the bbcode we are still downloading the massive 1200x1600 image. Probably I am just a grumpy old man though and it is not worth the effort to make thumbnails.

OK who the fuck told you not to wear green. I think that third dress looks great.

You're going to have to dress up the blue shirt with feminine pants/skirt, shoes, and jewelry.

I don't get why you don't wear shorter skirts still and I like the third dress! Do not listen to whoever said that!

I'm not supposed to wear green because I have an olive complexion, and green makes me look jaundiced. At least, it used to. A person can't change their complexion, as far as I know. All those years of not wearing green made me hate it as a color, so I avoid wearing it anyway. I rather despise that green dress. I think it looks ridiculous.

I look unhappy in the blue shirt because I was getting perturbed at my camera, trying to figure out the timer thing and whatnot.

Re: the red top, it's good to know that I look good in something I like. Honestly, that just made my day.

I don't wear shorter skirts because I have really awful fat legs.

Here are my legs:
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/8995/legssdz.jpg (in the bottom part of my swimsuit, as it was the shortest thing I could wear and still be decent.)

I was under the impression (though my bf seems to disagree) that they are too thick to wear, for instance, a mid-thigh length skirt and over-the-knee socks. Of course, for the past 21 years, I've also thought I couldn't wear green. I have no idea what to think anymore. My entire perception of reality has been skewed.

I definitely second that for that top to look more girly, you would need to dress it up with some more feminine pants/shoes. Next time, I'd probably go for a more fitted shirt, because you do have a lovely figure and that blue shirt does look somewhat too big around your torso. A fitted shirt would be much more flattering.

Also, the dresses suit you rather well! I'd definitely try and find something with a more subtle colour as those are all fairly strong colours.

Dang lady you can wear whatever the fuck you want! I mean we can give you advice on what we think is flattering on you, but at the end of the day you're still a super pretty lady who can wear whatever she wants to because dang and as long as you are comfortable and confident in that, it'll still be fine. I mean, I think that a few inches above or below the knees looks the best but that's mostly because they cut you off at narrow bits and I kind of hate the idea that we as women (some of us) only think we look good if we think we look thin. (obv different for ladies who have thin body types who have the problem of people asking them if they've eaten, which normally is none of their dang business)

I think I'm going to have to tailor my own clothes or something, because in order for a button-up shirt to fit well around the chest area, I need a Small, and the sleeves tend to be too short. If I go on a job interview or some such thing, I'll just have to hope they can figure out my female-ness from the massive bun of hair on the back of my head. When I took the picture, I was (and still am, as that was like an hour or two ago) wearing the same jeans as in the pic of the red top, but I couldn't seem to get them in the picture. Eventually, I'll have proper dress pants, when I have time to make them.

In related news, I've never had a job interview in my life, so if I ever get one, I'll be back to ask you guys all kinds of advice, so be prepared.

Edit: Thank you Brittany. I think one of these days I will get a skirt that doesn't reach my ankles, since apparently I CAN.

Alternatively, you could try three-quarter sleeve button-up shirts, which I think have a more naturally feminine silhouette.

(Plus I'm 5'1" and so not the right height for much clothing in low-cost retailers, but I'm also broke and / or stingy, so I do whatever I can to avoid having to get things tailored.)

In the UK it's pretty much illegal for job interviewers to notice that, or at least to mention it or act on it...
