Final Fantasy: Dissidia
« on: 17 Oct 2008, 04:49 »

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/dissidia/

I know some people have had a bad experience with Ergheiz, but the gameplay in Dissidia looks a lot more tasteful.

Plus, the idea of a crossover between the Final Fantasies I to X sounds awesome in it's own right (hardcore-ifying the 1-6 heroes and villains into full CG omgsh). We all know how popular crossover games are.

Plus, the music is fucking epic as expected of a Final Fantasy. I demand to know who is composing the music, because the first trailer (while I thought the choice parts of the trailer were the non-ingame scenes, the trailer had way too much of the ingame stuff) had top quality stuff. Dare I say better than Brawl lulz. Nintendo fanchildren anywhere? =P

Of course, this game is obviously for the FF fankid and will be recieved according to personal taste. I like it, but I don't know about you guys. So yeah.

Square Enix has not had great success making games that aren't RPGs, so I'm going to remain skeptical on this one. I think the chances of it being better than Smash Brothers are approaching nil.

I read a preview that compared the gameplay to Virtual On, which is completely crazy if it's true.

It doesn't look bad. Reminds me of Destrega or Power Stone! Also I have to admit that while they weren't huge successes, some of Square's non-rpgs have been great. Bushido Blade? Hell yeah.

I knew someone was obviously going to bring up the Smash Bros. series, but I guess that's not much of a big deal. The only thing I play SquareEnix games for is a plot and the music. ATB got old for me ages ago but it's just a workhorse for a lot of RPGs anyway. I like the idea that Dissidia might offer a fresh break (FFXIII aside, which apparently might be different) from the normal FF a lot of people have come to love.

I LOVED Bushido Blade. It was one of the funniest games I've ever played.

I should hope you knew someone would do it, because you were the one drawing (albeit joking) comparisons to Brawl in the first place.

Yeah, I only made that comment because you brought up Brawl in the first post. Also, I think playing this game for the plot might be a bad idea, considering that if they even bother with one they'll have to come up with something really stupid to explain why all of these characters are in one place.

I'm interested in seeing what they'll do, because supposedly this game has a big ol' story and lots of dialogue. I have one thing that might peak your interest though, Bryan: You can play as Kefka.

And Kefka looks BADASS.

And the story of Dissidia will probably have something plausible. Massive warp in space-time fabric, or deity summons heroes and villains storyline anyone? XD

From what I saw on the 1 UP preview it looks exactly like Virtual On

You have a pretty retarded definition of plausible. I mean, even for Final Fantasy. It's just better that things like this (and, say, random "guest characters" appearing out of time/place in FFT games) go unexplained.

By plausible, I mean Subspace Emissary type plausible.

(Sometimes sarcasm is a bit hard to get across =( )
