Chicago. Saturday. Hangouts.
« on: 21 Aug 2008, 15:38 »

Who: Me, Joe Hocking, and Supersheep. Also anyone else who is interested in joining us.

What: Museum Crawl - Possible stops include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago History Museum, Chicago Children's Museum, and The International Museum of Surgical Science.

When: This Saturday, August 23(? I think?) at 10am

Where: The ticket counter at MCA

Why: Because there's a Jeff Koons exhibition Joe has been meaning to see, and neither Odi nor I can make a decision.

How: Bring money and/or appropriate ID cards to get into museums, and meet us at the "where" spot. Or PM me your phone number and I'll call you with mine. Also bring lunch or lunch money.

Two of the three attending forumites are pretty darn awesome, and I say that only because I have not met the third. If this is and option to you, I suggest you go.

I wish I could be there, Eed!

I got an email notification that Joe Hocking had answered this thread.

Then I checked it and there was nothing.

Bet he's modifying.

He did indeed post, to express his dislike of the fact that you actually meant 10 am.

Mr. Hocking is lazy.

Well, hm. I guess he could meet us after lunch, but the museum OPENS AT TEN!

You can do it, Joe. It's good for you.

Call if you're running late.

Bet he's modifying.

I've actually been doing that a lot lately, posting something and then immediately deciding to delete it. Considering Liz noticed this time, I wonder if anybody has noticed in the past...

Anyway, I did initially whine about 10am, but then I figured "eh that's fine, I'll probably be up then anyway." I am a morning person actually, I just usually don't actually go outside before lunch if I don't have a specific reason to (ie. work.)

I'm game!

There's also a museum of holography that I've been meaning to see. I wonder if it's still open?

The website is down. Hmm...

I would be very interesting in going. I am only sixteen so if that will make me a drain on your group I will understand. And I have only my legs for transportation (I walk anywhere from four to ten miles every weekend though, so it's not like I'm incapable...). I do have monies though...

It's not so much that you'd be a drain as instantly making the outing a questionable affair. I mean, minor hanging out with strangers from the internet...

Now I'm cowering in fear.

I love sushi. I am kind of broke, though, so I probably can't spring for really really awesome sushi.

I have a museum pass kind of thingy that gets me into most North American Museums, though. That's how I can afford to do this.

I lived in RI when I first joined the forum. I've moved twice since then. goddamn

Because I teach for the Art Institute I get free admission to some of the museums around here. Not sure exactly which ones though, I've never bothered to check.

You know I went to the Shedd aquarium a few days ago and it's $18 with the resident discount? Doesn't that seem high to anyone else? :-o

You know what? Maybe I'll go. I'm in college in Beloit right now, which is about 10 minutes from Rockford, the closest semi-big city to Chicago. I'll have to check my schedule for that day and see if there's any orientation stuff going on, but it's a definite possibility.

(by the way, Tommy, what's with the new/alt account?)

A friend of mine(a former foumite as well!) is moving to Chicago on Monday. I told him that as soon as he gets set up and all comfortable, he has to call me and we'll make plans for me to come visit. So when that happens, I will let you guys know and maybe we'll make plans.

I do not look quite as bad in that photo as I felt! Result.

The meet-up was fun! I missed out on the MCA due to being ridiculously tired and feeling sick, which was a pity because Edith and Joe said it was great. Then we tried to go to the aquarium, but the lines were too long so we went to the Field Museum instead, where we wandered around giggling at the extremely poor puns on all the exhibits. Then we met Dennis, and set off on an epic trip in search of dinosaurs. Afterwards we went for a drink, and then we all went home. It was cool to get to hang out with forum folk, and they are all deadly.
