I think maybe he was cheating and couldn't live with the guilt. (Or maybe it was his crippling addiction to Hostess fruit pies.)

...Aaaanyway...
I think the reason we don't know more about it, is because Faye doesn't know more about it. And that is why she is so messed up. When we got the story of her Dad dying, we kind of got it through Faye's eyes, and since there isn't another character that was there at the time, the chances of us getting more information (unless Jeph decides to put it out there?) is pretty unlikely. I'm sure it will probably come into play eventually.

Benji, I read as far as "lemon" and "chicken", and I already want.

Back on tpic though, I'm sure the reason will be revealed when Jeph can think of a good enough reason.
Or he may choose to just leave it as "something that happened at some point to make a character special".

It's kind of ignorant to think there must be some "reason" for his suicide.  While that may be true occasionally, the only "reason" behind most suicides is clinical depression, a mental illness.  "Why did he do it?" is a question that probably doesn't have an answer, so expecting that the answer will someday be revealed seems naive.

Incidentally, this Lydia character introduced today looks exactly like someone close to me (cartoonified, of course) who killed herself a number of years ago.  Now there's an unpleasant reminder I wasn't expecting with my daily dose of QC. . . .

Even if there's an answer it won't be an explanation. There's never an explanation for something like that.

My theory is he had to kill himself to cover up a blackmail scandal he was involved with.

Maybe there are some pictures of him and Marten's mom in a comprimising position.  Maybe Marten and Faye are secretly brother and sister.

That's some Luke and Leia shit.

i might be wrong, but I think jeph posted something about it, and basically mentioned that a lot of (most?) suicides are done without any form of note or obvious reason, and the people left behind are left guessing.
