Nah, seriously, though. I got to go to a playoff game. Win or lose, it was an experience I'm glad I had.

Sox go through in game four.

I actually went to bed when the score was 2-0 to the Sox and it was a nice surprise to wake up to. I just caught the highlights and it looks like there were some excellent plays. Particularly amusing to watch Varitek chasing down a shrinking Willits.  You have to say that these younger players like Ellsbury and Pedroia are absolutely fucking brilliant in the post-season, just as they were last year. Jon Lester - what can you say about this guy? He's 24, he already fought off lymphoma to pitch in the final game of the World Series, threw a no-hitter and now he's basically scalped a team which went into this series with over 100 wins.

I still feel like the Rays are going to win though. If you've seen them play, they are so goddamn fast. They're athletic. No really!

Dski, you realize that double was Pedroia's first hit of the entire series, right?

Hopefully he's found his scary as fuck regular season form, now.

Yeah but Pedroia has still been a key part of this series. His quick-flip to deny Guerrero was neat.

So, remember that series between the Red Sox and the Yankees in '03 when the Sox came back from an 0-3 deficit? Remember how awesome that was? So, I was in Japan then, and baseball was on nearly every night*, because of Matsui mainly, and I really became a Red Sox fan watching that series and then the World Series after that. Which, I'm allowed to do during the postseason since I'm a Kansas City fan. So, I've been a casual fan of theirs since then, but I just cannot root against the Rays this year. I love their players and it is just such a good story. I don't know if they'll win, but darn if they aren't fun to watch.

Also, I hope the Dodgers do well, just to further the Yankees torment for letting go of Joe Torre.

*Side note: there was a news break one night during one of the games about Arnold Schwartzenegger being elected governer of California, because the Japanese people thought it was about the funniest thing ever. During the news break, my host mom turned to me, and in all seriousness asked me "Robbie, what do you think of Arnold Schwartzenegger's erection?" Best ever.

You mean, she was legitimately interested in the penis of Arnold Schwartzenegger?  Or was she just saying "election" but in a japanese accent?

And I felt completely obligated to her to explain the difference in what she said and what she meant. It was awkward, but I guess it's the kind of thing you expect when you do ESL.

But, baseball sure is great, huh?

For the record, the Sox' World Series run was 2004, not 2003. 2003 was the "Aaron fucking Boone" series where the Sox came within a couple innings of the World Series, but blew it late and the Yankees went on to lose to the Marlins.

And I actively dislike more than a couple of the Rays. They've got some serious punks down there, particularly Gomes, Iwamura and Balfore. I'm not sure if the place just coincidentally draws a lot of them or if it's the atmosphere of the clubhouse as they've produced more than there share over the years. See Delmon Young (Who once earned a lengthy suspension in the minors for throwing a bat at an umpire after disagreeing with a call).

2003 was the year Pedro knocked down Don Zimmer then? Maybe I was thinking that instead.

And 2004 was the year Tanyon Sturtz got his ass handed to him by Ortiz, Kapler, and Nixon.

See Delmon Young

Hey, look at that! The Sox are up 1-0 and the Phillies 2-0.

Everything's falling into place! I want a Boston-Philly WS because that way I don't have to stay up as late.

I think a Phillies vs. Rays World Series is a more exciting prospect than a Sox vs Dodgers one so I'm not to bothered about the Sox not making it this year, especially given last year. It was a good post-season anyhow.

Oh huh, I guess J.D. Drew has other plans for the World Series.

Go Sox (again).
