At the moment I'm listening to "The Geeks Were Right" by The Faint, but yesterday I listened to "Damaged Goods" by Gang of Four, honest.

Beethoven's Sonata 14 in C# minor. First movement that everyone knows now, but I'm going to listen to the whole thing because the third movement is just friggin' awesome.
(C 'pound' minor, tee-hee)
2nd movement now. Better post, I guess.

a cover of nick cave and the bad seeds' "ship song" done by Leatherface.  kinda strange (especially as frankie's vocals are like sandpaper on a blackboard, albeit in a good way), but really good.

the swellers - "my everest"

cracking melodic punk, a bit like no use for a name, but poppier than their earlier stuff, and heavier than their poppy stuff, if that makes sense.

Love - Forever Changes

Best 60s album ever?  For my money, yes.  It's psychedelic and a bit folky and thematically dark and sorrowful.  None of this hippie-dippy irrational optimism.  Did I mention the music rocks?

The first thing I thought when listening to this album was "I bet David Tibet would like this."  Turns out he's singled it out as one of the reasons he decided to abandon the tape-loops and take Current 93 in the song-based folk direction.

I'm listening to Fall of Troy right now, and thinking about how I could possibly enjoy it if they'd stop singing.  Or just sing better.  Something like that.

"100 broken windows" by idlewild.

this album and the one that followed it ("the remote part") are slowly but surely climbing my list of favourite albums ever.  and i bought both for about 2quid each off amazon a few months ago.  truly, this year has been a year of awesome discovery in the ways of music for me.

frankly, i think Love are pretty overrated.

I listen to one song on that album: Maybe The People Would Be The Times Or Between Clark And Hilldale.

As far as 60's psychedelia, I'm a sucker for The United States of America's self-titled.

Oh, and listening to that Gregor Samsa and Neil On Impression that Sean put up in the mf thread a few days back.

Currently the song "December Hunting for Vegetarian Fuckface." I'm being soothed by its blissful haze of sound. It's making me sleepy which is not good, considering I have to write final papers this weekend.

Mogwai has some excellent stuff. Oh, who the fuck am I kidding. Anything by them makes me happy. Which is quite something.

Also, I am listening to my playlist of The Samples (is anyone else here familiar with their stuff?).

First: "The Streets in the Rain"
Then: "World of Machines"
Now: "Landing on the Sidewalk"

i was completely bored by that one to start with, but it's grown on me.

my favouritism involving those mogwai albums which i own goes something like this...  young team = mr. beast > HSFHP > hawk is howling > come on die young.

i ranked mr. beast and young team equally because mr. beast is probably the best one musically, whilst young team was the first mogwai i heard (only this year though! the reissue...) and has a strange kinda atmosphere to it that their other albums don't.  so the two are about equal to me.

what's rock action like, compared to their other stuff?

You people are weird, Mr. Beast is probably Mogwai's weakest effort.

And spoon person, spin Rock Action right now. You Don't Know Jesus is one of the best songs Mogwai has written, along with 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong. I like to think of it as a halfway point between CODY and HSfHP.

Now I am listening to Because of Ghosts' myspace page and oh my god they are so good why did I not know this before. It is some of the best minimalist/quiet post-rock I have ever heard. My god and they have such a large back catalog.
