white stripes, bit of billie holiday, more white stripes, and the soundtrack to seussical the musical. (not entirely my fault, i'm in the pit band for it and it's so addicting.)

although i might have to go listen to some classical guitar now. love love love that stuff though i don't know much about it.

Five different versions of "Train Kept A-Rollin'" (originally Tiny Bradshaw): Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, Dread Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Motorhead.  The latter three only because I was writing about the changing role of blues in rock music.  (For blog

Currently, Cupid de Locke by The Smashing Pumpkins. I want something simple and non-involving to listen to.

Tarentel's "From Bone to Satellite." I've always loved this album but I haven't heard it in a while. I knew it was great but I think I forgot how awesome it is. Possibly the best post-rock album of all time? It's certainly in the running.

Nancy the Tavern Wench- Alestorm
PIRATE METAL!

I never knew Pirate Metal existed before you posted this.  I checked them out and they are actually pretty good.

Best recommendation you'll ever get: Delete Alestorm post haste and download some Running Wild.

Listening to some obscure Newstead project. "Sexoturica". It's not bad, but you can see why Metallica didn't let him write many songs.

got a promo of In the Red's "Volume 2" in the post today - it kinda sounds like Hot Water Music playing slightly laid-back grungy rock, i'm really liking it so far, despite the slightly over-bassy production on it.

Based on the comments for today's comic (03102009CE), I have downloaded and am listening to the Deathmole discography.  I find the music interesting and fascinating, although it seems to be diametrically opposite to the music I normally listen to.  It is obvious to me that I don't have an understanding or appreciation for this music.  Still, I am finding it fascinating and interesting

Fever Ray - Fever Ray

The woman from Knife, Karin Dreijer's side project.  Not as synth heavy as The Knife. In my opinion sounds more like a dark Portishead.

I can't stop listening to it.

Fleet Foxes s/t.  My wife saw them on the TV earlier this evening, and was surprised and pleased when I handed her a copy.

I hadn't even heard of Fleet Foxes until I saw them open for Wilco early last year, and couldn't get enough of them.  Then they were Pitchfork's album of the year and BAM they are everywhere now.

Anyway, I'm watching live recordings of Sunny Day Real Estate now.  And, I just finished Refused are Fucking Dead.

The FF guys have nice voices and harmonize well and write decent, simple, pretty songs but, as far as I can tell, they're nothing special.

I think it might be the fact that the Fleet Foxes had such a solid debut album with the right sound for the right time.  And again, being Pitchfork's album of the year practically has the hipsters prostituting themselves to get on the bandwagon.  I'm not sure if they really are special yet.  Right now I still prefer Okkervil River and Mountain Goats to FF, but if they can maintain this same quality for successive albums I could really respect them.

I'm currently in the process of listening through every song Tarentel has ever released and a number of live show recordings. I'm pretty far along. Currently I'm finishing up the third volume of their four volume 'Ghetto Beats on the Surface of the Sun' LP series. Wonderfully weird noise experimentations the way only Tarentel can do 'em. God I love this band.
