I actually didn't like that song so much (hides from everyone).

Man this thread moves slow. I feel guilty for posting again. But whatever.

"Riders On The Storm" - The Doors

I love the Doors. If you took just about any Doors song and made it heavier, you would still have a great song. I mean, I'm not advocating a metal tribute band to the Doors, I'm just sayin'. If Fugazi did a Doors tribute album I would probably buy it.

You know, for a ska band, they don't sound much like the shitty crack-happy "WHOO AND NOW HERE'S SOME TROMBONES FOR YOU" ska like you'd hear on an Aquabats record.

They're practically a prog-rock band now.  Which is in no way a bad thing.  That's a cracking album, and apparently they're working on a new one now.

If you haven't already, check out "The Answer is Never" by Howards Alias.  they are (or were - split up now...) the UK's answer to Rx Bandits.

The weather has warmed significantly and suddenly, Tom Waits and The Smiths are jumping out of every little corner.  It's warm and cloudy...so, I think it will end up being a long walk and The Black Rider.

Sick, thanks! Downloading now. I'll PM you and let you know what I think of it.

Until then, I am listening to "Everything Means Nothing To Me" by Elliot Smith. It has always haunted me to listen to the music of a person whose death is considered to have been a suicide. That and accidental deaths. In the case of accidents, I wonder if their subconscious mind somehow knew it was coming. With suicides, I wonder if they were thinking about ending their own lives as they wrote every song. And with something so sad as this song, it's really hard for me to imagine any other way.

Or maybe I'm just overthinking it. Either way, it just haunts me. Makes me sad. Beautiful, beautiful music though.

no problems man, hope you enjoy it.

and yeah, i know what you mean about the deceased musicians thing.  in jeff buckley's "nightmares by the sea" (which was released posthumously), there's a line that goes "stay with me under these waves tonight," and what with him having drowned, that line sends a shiver down my spine every time.  it's kind of an obvious one, but there's a few other references to drowning in his lyrics (can't think of the exact lyrics or songs off the top of my head).

I listened to that album. Good tunes, but those guys could've used a better producer. Definitely a little weak compared to my beloved Bandits. Still, really good shit.

yeah, it is a bit raw, but i think it kinda fits for a lot of it.  they did have money troubles though, i think that's why they broke up.  i've got a coupla their other albums if you're interested?

"Like A Stone" - Audioslave

Man this was a shitty idea for a band (Rage - screamy white boy rap + singing =! good times) but this song is such a guilty pleasure. And I'll be honest, I really do love Chris Cornell's voice, but this is just about the only song on the album that I can stand. And I have 4 albums of this shit from when I let my friend put stuff on my iPod.

(dude I would totally be down with hearing more of Howards Alias)

The Psychedelic Furs - All of this and nothing.

When I listen to this and a few other bands I always feel like I should be in a shed with old, worn carpeting, a dartboard, lots of aging wooden cupboards, and a motorbike behind ancient couches missing hunks of themselves. with this music being played on a paint-stained radio older than me, as my dad and uncles waffle on about something of other motorbikey, and I sit in the corner (of my own volition) and read.

"L.A. Woman" - The Doors

I have been on a pretty big Doors kick lately, which is shameful to say since all I have is a greatest-hits compilation. But holy FUCK what a great song this is, and an absolutely amazing band on top of it. Probably the best repeating bassline to ever pound the airwaves.

I have been on this huge stoner kick lately, so I've been listening to:

Dead Meadow - Dead Meadow
Colour Haze - All
Titan - A Raining Sun of Light & Love For You & You & You
Brightblack Morning Light - Brightblack Morning Light
DJ Frane - Electronic Garden of Delights
Grails - Burning Off Impurities/Doomsayer's Holiday

Pretty much in rotation for the last couple weeks.

Metallica- Creeping Death.

The opening riff, the chorus, the solo, the bridge, man, no amount of superlatives or breathless, excited swearing can adequately convey how rad this song is.

I have no clue why, but every time I hear this song I alternately want to cry or dance. Just one of those bands, I suppose.
