Peter's Dream - The Lost Pilgrims. They are my best friend's dad's band and I love them because it is not often that I find gospel-bluegrass that I truly enjoy listening to.

Before Million Dead Frank Turner and Ben (I think? The dude that was also in Palehorse) the drummer were in a band called Kneejerk when they were teenagers. They did two albums and a split with Abjure if I remember right. The first album is really wonky, they were daftly young when they made it and it shows. The Half-Life Of Kissing was their 2000 swansong, I'm not even sure they were still together when it came out. It's emo metallic hardcore but they'd obviously been listening to a lot of Refused and Canvas and decided to include electronic bits and generally get very odd with lots of long songs and samples. It's very teenage and hasn't always aged well, particularly when Frank tries singing instead of screaming, but there's still some great moments and it remains my favourite Frank Turner record. It's his time in this band that he's singing about in Back In The Day from Sleep Is For The Weak.

Bar Kokhba Sextet - Lucifer

I think this is an offshoot of Masada?  In any case, some quite lovely Jewish/jazz hybrid from certified-genius John Zorn.  I've also been listening to Trojan Dub Massive Chapter 1 & 2, which are Bill Laswell's compilation/(somewhat) remix albums of Trojan's back catalogue.  'Cause when the words Bill Laswell are used in conjunction with dub, the results will be assuredly good.

This has given me an idea for a thread.

Why do I seem to be the only person listening to this?  I thought they were pretty popular, but not many people are talking about this release.  It's a shame, because the album is brilliant, easily an aoty contender.

The most sublimely beautiful concentration of summer feeling and indie rock ever concocted.  Seriously, Castaways and Cutouts is the best Decemberists album, and this song is one of the reasons why.

Muslimgauze - Sulaymaniyah

Man, Tupac and Biggy should be shamed by this guy's posthumous output.  Muslimguaze put out nearly a hundred albums, then died ten years ago, then put out sixty more albums.

I have recently decided that I am substantially lacking in metal of any sort and have decided to erode my ignorance by getting Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and Ride the Lightning.

It's working!

So right now I am listening to ...And Justice for All for the first time on a good system (I used to have a cassette of it which was fairly muddy quality).

Riceboy Sleeps and the All Animals EP by Jonsi & Alex. Both are fantastic, joyous, blissed-out ambient, just like you'd expect them to be. Like trimming away everything but a trace paper cross section of Sigur Ros, and then expanding it outwards into an entire atmosphere, and then swimming around in it. Both are in the mediaf!re thread.
