i'm currently listening to "the ocean and the sun" by the sound of animals fighting.  i'd put off giving them a proper listen for ages because the songs i'd heard of theirs before had that ridiculous wailing twat from chiodos on them.  this album is chode-hoss free, and pretty badass!

afterwards, i might give tom waits' "rain dogs" another listen.  bought it on a whim the other day and it's just full of character and atmosphere - totally not my usual thing but i love it!

Arch Enemy - Nemesis

Only vocalist I know that can put up with Angela Gossow's incredible voice is propably Vas Kallas of Hanzel und Gretyl, but her voice is still not nearly as powerful as Angela's. Both are great bands though.

Balkansky's new promo mix. Saw this guy play a month or so back, the dude's got some killer dubs. He's a producer from Bulgaria, makes drum and bass under the name of COOH, and now dubstep under Balkansky. Beautiful, heavy stuff... my new favourite producer. Get it for free here.

Well, actually, I heard that, with their latest tour for Skeletal Lamping, they were rather hit-or-miss. I heard comparisons to both shitty schoolplays and theatrical productions.

That's... that's the entire point. The over-the-top theatrics of the whole thing are intentional. And the tunes are fucking great. Saying their live show is too theatrical sounds like somebody went in to a deli and complained that their turkey sandwich tasted too much like turkey.

The best way for me to comment is to go se one of their shows. Sadly, I missed the last time they were in Montreal.

Right now, I'm listening to Better In Hoboken  by Franz Ferdinand.

I really love Franz Ferdinand. Their material is of incredible quality and the B-sides shouldn't even be B-sides. They are as good and sometimes even better than the A-sides or the albums tracks. I<m gonna go see them in 2 weeks. I expect my face to be rocked out.
